Santa in San Antonio on Over 50 Feeling 40

This is one of my favorite photos that I took a few years ago at North Star Mall in San Antonio.  I miss Santa in the malls and I think he needs more help this year than ever before.

So, here is one cutting-edge consideration for under the tree that I think any family member would like!

  1. I love the photo frame. I have the old style and it’s such a hassle to use. This one is a huge improvement! You’re right, it is a perfect gift for anyone! The outfits…red and black is such a favorite combination, I’d try the two pants options. Not sure about the neckline on the one in front, but I’d try it to see if it worked. I like the detail. The black pants are something I have plenty of, good basics. I’m not sure about the print on the other top. It seems just a little overwhelming, but I do like the style. It just might be a little too busy. The style is flattering. I don’t care for the dress. I love dresses and wear them weekly, but this one looks a little “off” to me. I think this might be one of those things that makes an older woman look older, but a younger woman could pull it off. I’m not a fan of the collar. The display would attract me because red and black is a winning combination. Thank you for the gift idea! Have a great day!

  2. I LOVE the red/black combination, especially at this time of year! I’d wear either of the tops & pants, I think they’re both very pretty.

  3. I would pass on everything displayed. I don’t wear red and I don’t like these clothes enough to look for other colors. The bling on the sweater is a No and the print on the paisley top is so big. I see the “CK” bling on the gathers — NOPE! The red dress is so matronly. I’m surprised this is Calvin Klein. I typically like the brand because it’s understated.

  4. I love the outfits with the black slim leg pants. I especially love the red sweater with a tiny bit of bling on the bodice and sleeves, so simple, yet a bit of glam. The red paisley top Id wear all year. I LOVE to wear red and look great in it. I often pull all of my red items to the front of my closet to rotate through in December, mixing with a plaid scarf, statement earrings or necklace, etc. I feel so happy in red. The dress I would not wear, the waist would hit me just at my problem area, my belly, I don’t like to draw attention there. I’d love to gift those frames and receive one, I agree with someone above, the old ones were such a pain! Happy Saturday Pam and others. Amy

  5. While I like the print of the dress, the paisley top and black pants really appeal to me for the holidays. They will be more laid back this year, and I’ll be either doing most of the coking (Christmas Eve) or helping my daughter (Christmas Day) so this looks like a great outfit for the holidays at home. Also, you can’t beat the way the fabric drapes. I expect it would be flattering.

  6. the dress, i would have worn in my younger days. the print blouse, the gathers right at the waist would do me no favors, although i do like the print…the sweater would just be too boxy on me.

  7. With exception of the black pants and even those are questionable due to cut; ditto as to what MP (above) expressed. As to the Skylight photo frame, shall definitely look into it. Wishing you a wonderful weekend, Pamela. -Brenda-

  8. I love red! The print top is my favourite – it would be go with almost everything in my closet and I could wear it most of the year. The dress is very pretty and I would wear it with a black belt to define the waist and add visual interest. I would pass on the sweater on the middle mannequin – not a fan of mock necks. I’ll save my bling for jewelry.

  9. I could use another pair of basic black pants and red is a colour that I’d like to add to my present wardrobe. Unfortunately, I don’t care for the neckline or the bling on the sweater. I love the style of the paisley top and would try it on, but the pattern looks like it might be too much for me. The dress is definitely a no. As MP already said, it’s too matronly.

  10. I had to laugh when reading some of the comments about red and black. 38 years ago we moved to a small town in South Georgia where I taught science at Cairo High School . There the colors of red and black are prominent in support of the Cairo Syrupmakers. I had no red and black in my wardrobe back then , but after teaching 28 years, now we laugh how if it’s red and black, I’ll buy it! And I would buy all of these items on display although I certainly need no more of these colors. I too especially like the red sweater with the small , silvery embellishments. The dress with what looks like a loose, raised waistline would cover my old age spread as would the gathered, printed blouse. And even though I have more black pants than I will ever need, I’m always looking for another pair.

  11. Do you love your Puffy Blanket? It’s kind of spendy and never went on sale. Want to make sure it’s worth it. Thinking about getting it for a gift.

  12. I agree with MP. All of these are a no for me. I am short so tops like these would make me look shorter. The dress is a definite no. Maybe for a teen with a cute pair of booties. But not for me.

  13. I agree on the dress being matronly. My first thought was Nancy Reagan when I saw it – the 80’s called and wants their dress back!

  14. Hi Diane, I do like this blanket alot and I also want to send you a link to my favorite faux fur throw:https://www.softsurroundings.com/p/caline-faux-fur-throw/. I make no money on this, but want you to know about this other blanket. We are enjoying the Puffy Blanket so much for warmth and comfort and it is a full size blanket that we put on our bed over the comforter at night. The other is a smaller throw.

  15. It might just be me, but these all read really old and frumpy. I love red and black, especially for winter.
The sweater looks cheap to me. And the dress is frumpy – besides who is wearing a dress these days? I have a couple of side-ruched Calvin Klein tops that I like, but I’m not a fan of the print.
    Sorry…

  16. My winter pale skin tends toward pink, so wearing red on top doesn’t do me any favors. I love the color in accessories. Thanks for the photo frame idea. Sounds like a nice gift possibility for my folks.

  17. I find that I’m first drawn to color, but have learned to focus on silhouette. The only silhouette that would work for me is the paisley gathered top. It’s figure friendly, because, while I used to think that gathers added bulk and highlighted a larger tummy, they in fact help hide mine. I’m not a lover of so much print, so I would pass. Most mock turtlenecks to me look aging and dated. The dress is a hard pass for reasons too numerous to list. As for the logos, I recently purchased a Michael Kors puffer jacket on deep discount. Every single zipper tab (main zipper, both pockets, arm area) has a gold MK logo on it. I kept it because it is basic and flattering, not easy to find in an online order for puffer jackets. But those logos … so 1985! I hope that look is not coming back in. Pam, you are shopping in person … are you seeing this? Fluke … or trend?

  18. Red and black is one of my favorite color combos so I like all 3 outfits. The dress is my personal favorite (maybe because I have some variation of the pants outfits already in my closet) Blue-reads look better on me than orange-reds, so I’d need to see the sweater with the silver embellishments in person, on my screen it appears to be a relative of the orange family or reds, and I’d need to try it on to see how the neckline and boxy cut looked on me, While I like paisley prints on others, I don’t wear many large prints. Cute little faux side wrap design though.

  19. I have seen the logo trend in many places and believe it is returning, but, like you, I am not a fan.

  20. I love black and red as a color combination. However I would not wear these outfits. I like the dress style, but not the print. I like and have black velvet pants, but both tops have no appeal. The print one looks dated and much too busy. The red sweater looks weird to me. I think they missed in adding adornment.

  21. I like all three outfits. The red sweater with the black pants has just the right amount of bling, but I would push the sleeves up, as I don’t like them down over my hands. I would have to try the print top to see if it would be flattering. Although I like the style of the dress, something about the neckline is a bit too sweet for my taste.

  22. I saw “red” in your title & was saying “yes!” before I even saw the photos! LOL! I’ve loved red (& black & the 2 together) since I was a teenager & always have a closet full of both, so, yes, I’d wear everything here but the dress. I so rarely wear dresses one would have to be perfect to catch my eye & this one isn’t that for me — I prefer bolder prints & simpler lines. I’d pair the red & silver sweater with black or grey pants or, for a dressier look, a swirly calf-length skirt with boots. And I really like the bold take on the classic paisley on the tunic, even though the neckline isn’t one I’d usually wear; it would look great with black leggings! I would remove the buckle with the branding, though — if Calvin Klein wants to use my body as a walking billboard on which to advertise he can pay ME for its use, not the other way around 🙂

BTW, I find some of the comments in this post ridiculously narrow-minded. “Frumpy”, “old”, “dated”, “matronly”. Wow. I had to go back & look at the displays again & thought, nope, not seeing that. I mean, ANYTHING can look frumpy & matronly if that’s what you’re bringing to the party, but I suspect most of us who like these looks have what it takes to pull them off. If you don’t like them, that’s fine. But instead of criticizing the look itself (& as a consequence, anyone who does like it), why not find something you like better instead? Win-win.

  23. I’m a red and black fan and am glad to see a change from the fall colours that don’t go with my white hair. I think the dress needs a black belt, the neckline untied and a black necklace added. Although I like the bling on the red sweater I think it ends at the wrong place across the chest. I’m a fan of paisley, a classic in my mind, but that syle would have to be in petite and like others I would take off the CK.
