Would You Wear It for Winter Fashion

Would You Wear It for Winter Fashion at Chico's

Yes!  It is time for the first Would You Wear It in 2021 with me and my friend Jennifer!

I hope all of you have enjoyed a warm, cozy and joyous new year celebration and are ready to talk a little fashion.

Would You Wear It on Over 50 Feeling 40

Just in case anyone is new, this is the day that Jennifer and I post fashion displays which have caused us to stop and wonder…what would the ladies think?

Then, we ask you to look the displays off and tell us if you personally would or would not wear the styles, and explain in constructive detail why?

Please do not label the clothing with a derogative name…that is not constructive…and might offend another reader who feels differently from you.

We ask for kindness and helpful comments…and, yes, the comments are read!

Would You Wear It at Chicos on Over 50 Feeling 40

I have a family of three in my display and you may comment on one or all of the pieces.  I also have a slideshow below of these selections in case you are interested.

Sometimes, it is difficult to find the selections online, but I will do this when possible or offer other recommendations at the same retailer.

So, look my family of ladies over and tell us……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

  1. I would wear these outfits, but not in the winter. The lighter colors and fsbrics, with the exception of the black, all say “spring” to me. I’d freeze in these things in the winter! I especially like the runs with the light pants, but such airy fabrics wouldn’t work for winter wear and would look out of place where I live. I do like the colors and fabrics, however. In the right season, I’d wear them!

  2. Like Karen I see these pieces as transition -season outfits. I’d need a little length on the black and ivory colored pants in my climate. They speak to northeast early spring wear. …..still cold in the morning but warmer by afternoon.
I don’t wear lighter jeans but like the sweaterits paired with . I’d wear it with a darker wash jean.

  3. have and love the necklace with the striped sweater…but the striped sweater wouldnt work for me. i do like the black sweater but would pass it up, it wouldnt get worn much down here. really like the ruana, but would go gray column or matching cream column under it..the creams they have it paired with are just off a little…

  4. I would like to speak to the lovely pancho piece with the fringe. For some reason I have always avoided pieces like this although I think they look FABULOUS when I see them on other people. I am tall, so I can pull it off. Where I have the problem, is, to me, the fussiness of wearing it. If I sit down to lunch, taking it off, putting on the chair next to me, then draping it back on, getting it right, wearing it in the car without wrinkling it, etc.
I guess I tend to lean towards easy. But that’s why I’m here! Trying to up my fashion game. So while I am attracted to that piece, I’m also a little put off.

  5. Like all 3, already have a similar wrap in camel and ivory, will need to pull it out and make the outfit. The black sweater is great, just put it in in my shopping cart/basket, and the striped sweater. All items would be figure flattering for my rectangle shape. Our temperatures fluctuate in the winter from low 20’s to mid 60’s, so the outfits are wearable depending on that day’s temp. Thank you for sharing the Would You Wear It, pictures! Have a great new year!

  6. I like the boyfriend jeans. I have those and wear them in warmer weather. The neutral stripe sweater is too dull for me.
I don’t like the sleeves/cuffs on the black sweater and the fringe wrap would look like a blanket on me.
I knew what store this was by the big jewelery — not my thing. Happy 2021!

  7. I actually like all three of these outfits & would give them all a try although with my own jewelry to make them my own. And the black top would really need to be in a different colour for me to wear it. I do live in a cold & snowy climate & would just put on my tall cozy boots to go out.

  8. I liked the look of all three outfits. I’d freeze in the winter months as a Midwesterner in any of these outfits. I would wear the striped sweater and jeans. I would flip the second outfit with a navy sweater on top. I try to avoid wearing black close to my face unless I can add a scarf/jewelry. I always love a monochromatic look. I think the fringe wrap would be too much on my 5’1” frame and I haven’t worn wraps like this. I may be brave and try on something like this to mix up my style.

  9. Good morning Pam, and others, for me, I don’t understand retailers and designers that keep pushing the shorter length pants. I just don’t like them, they cut a woman short, and I want to elongate. I can always roll my hems, like the jeans, if I wish. So all of the pants are a no for me, the jeans because of the light wash. I love the black sweater, but right now I’m working from home and don’t wear sweaters. The colors are all wrong for my dark hair and olive skin, except the black sweater. Happy New Yearvall.

  10. I would definitely wear the sweaters, especially the pastel striped as I love light colors with suede booties in the winter.

  11. I like the two heavy gold chains with the ruana. I would wear that. Although it’s a light (spring?) color, I’d be wearing it only at home so the color would be fine. The weight of the necklaces balances out the ruana nicely. Paired with comfy pants of course.

  12. Though I think it looks great, I wouldn’t wear the black outfit because it wouldn’t suit my colouring. I’d happily wear either of the other two outfits in spring or fall, but here in Canada they wouldn’t be suitable for winter.

  13. Hi, I’m new. Just found you this past week and looking forward to the conversations!
I like all three and I think all are considered neutrals, right? I worry the older I get, the color black tends to wash me out especially so close to the face. I would wear the striped the most, but I’m very casual especially now that I work from home. And that is exactly my issue! I’m worried I’m getting frumpy. If I wear the cape, people will ask why am I so dressed up – i just want to look casual chic, if that is possible

  14. I would wear the black sweater but the other two outfits are too pale for me. I’m mystified about the current cropped/short pant trend – like others, I live in a cold climate. Although we haven’t had much snow this year, it’s been cold and shorter pants are not practical for 6 months of the year.

  15. Is the sweater on the left sheet at the bottom? If so that’s a definite no for me. I’d wear the Ruana and like the colors here.

  16. I would wear all of these pieces. For those of us living in the southern part of the country, winter whites and soft pinks are perfect colors! I bring a shawl or ruana with me at night when it’s chilly and we were allowed to dine out. I like the colors and herringbone pattern of this one.

  17. Hi Patricia…welcome. So happy to have you here! Yes, casual chic is possible!!

  18. The black outfit is the only one that would suit me as the other two are too pale. The sleeves of the black sweater give it some appeal but I think I would like the black and patterned one that is just behind the grouping. Being petite I like that the shorter pant is in style as it gives me much more options Being further north than many I also like that the shorter pant doesn’t get dragged through the snow and slush that we deal with from November until March.

  19. I love the black (navy?) outfit in the middle. I think the texture of the top was elevating, and I liked the stripe down the side of the pants. The sweater on the left was a no go for me because pastels really wash me out, but I thought it was attractive, and the low contrast stripes would be less “horizontal” looking than some other side to side stripes. The cape-like ruana is not for me. I feel wide in them, and I hate that I always have to adjust them. I appreciate the effort that went into styling these by the retailer.

  20. Just a heads up for you … I have been reading your blog as an email subscriber for a few years but recently realized that you were not showing up in my inbox or my junk mail. So I “resubscribed” a few weeks ago and I am still not receiving your email updates. Today I subscribed again and hope it works this time. Just thought you might want to know in case I am not the only one.

  21. The neutral stripe sweater and jeans would get the most wear in my current ‘stay at home’ lifestyle so it would be something I might purchase right now. The middle sweater and pants look comfy and cozy but dressing all in black washes me out; I would try the sweater in pink but not sure that’s my color either. A ruana is a cute third piece for occasions when there’s limited movement involved or when I’m unsure how the temperature will evolve. The description says gold but it looks like a match tried to happen but is off. I would like it better paired with winter white/cream or even a ‘goes with’ rather than a ‘match’. The length of the ruana seems off with the shorter pants leg, so I would want a longer length

  22. I would wear the sweater on the left but with different pants, as I don’t wear light colored jeans. Depending upon the weight of the sweater, I would possibly wear it under a jacket. I would try the black sweater but don’t care for the white stripe on the side of the pants, just a matter of personal taste. I would wear the outfit on the right in the spring or a sunny winter day. It has a classic look & would be good for a nice lunch or dinner out when we return to doing those things.

  23. I like all three of these outfits! They offer classic and neutral pieces that I could easily introduce to my wardrobe.

And, I have to say that I love that the necklaces were included … it seems the some of the previous mannequins didn’t have any accessories.

The boyfriend jeans are on my list! And the ruana is so lovely!

  24. I’m not fond of grey with beige. I also never wear wide horizontal stripes or block prints in any color. I would wear the black sweater with the mock turtleneck and puffy sleeves. It is very pretty and I love to wear necklaces with high necks. All the pants are too short for me to wear in the winter as I dislike the gap with booties. Although I often wear loafers or ballet flats, I still prefer my winter pants longer. I order a tall for Chico’s ankle pants for that very reason.

  25. I always learn something when I read the comments about whether people would wear the outfits! The details of yes or no give me great shopping hints for myself. I find I look at items I am considering buying differently. Thank you!

  26. I have to admit all of these but the ruana make me shiver — the pants are too short & the sweaters too light-weight for where I live (mountains & sea & buckets of icy rain). The necklines are all wrong for me, too: I don’t look at round necklines anymore because I know they don’t suit me & I always regret buying them. I like the light-wash jeans but have plenty; the light coloured sweater is too bland for my tastes. I love the sophisticated look of the outfit with the ruana & chains — it would look spectacular on the right person, but, alas, that person isn’t me. I’m too short & way too casual to pull it off without looking like I’m playing dress-up &, as Denise says above, the logistics of wearing ruanas absolutely confound me: they’re always sliding or blowing off & I have to keep grabbing them & they ruck up when I get in & out of the car. I like clothes I can pull on & forget about that stay looking classy without my having to constantly adjust & fuss with them. This is obviously a component of “elegant” I’m missing by a country mile 🙂 I do like all the jewelry but wear only silver, so even it’s out [sigh].

  27. For the cold climate I live in; unfortunately all three ensembles are just not that practical for our winter season both in design and fabric. As to the tops and their necklines; preference would therefore be a turtle-neck or assurance that they could be worn with an underlay of sorts for added warmth. In regard to the bottoms; as others have mentioned feel they are too short even if one were to wear a high boot as often have the tendency to ride-up when in the seated position resulting in baggie knees …. ☺…. particularly if they are a slim cut. Last but not least though do own a few ruanas myself; I share similar sentiments as Denise (above) to having to fuss with them which can be annoying so it depends up the occasion when I wear them.

Before closing; wishing you Pamela and your loved ones A VERY HEALTHY ‘n HAPPY NEW YEAR with continued success in your blog etc. -Brenda-

  28. I would wear the outfit on the far right. I love a ruana. Instead of the white tee, I would wear a cream or white cashmere or merino pullover. the ruana and tee would look nice over pale denim, too. Wear pair with booties or a flat.
