I love a great perseverance story and actress, Judi Dench, has one that I hope will encourage all of us to persevere through our personal challenges.

  1. Really interesting articles today. I was especially interested in reading how the Mediterranean diet can help our brain health. I know this way of eating has many benefits, but haven’t heard much about brain health with regard to the diet. This just cements my resolve to focus on this way of eating. Dementia scares me more than any other aging factor. I do appreciate the focus of aging vs. anti-aging skin care…casts aging in a more positive light for a change. And kudos to Judi Dench for her fantastic outlook and attitude about a devastating disability. That’s very encouraging to hear how she’s dealing with it. Your “ugly brown” description made me smile! Welcome to NE Ohio 5 months of the year!! Gray and brown are our colors for extended periods of time!! Pretty bleak, so when the sun occasionally makes an appearance, people head outside and enjoy it!

  2. Thanks for today’s stories. As a big Ina Garten fan, I appreciate her no-nonsense approach to cooking and have learned much from watching her show over the years. Enjoyed the story on the benefits to eating Mediterranean, as that is how I strive to eat most of the time. Thanks for the fun suggestion and cool article link on Firefly Lane. I had not heard that Judi Dench is suffering from macular degeneration. My mother is in the same boat unfortunately, but like Ms. Dench she chooses to see the positive aspects: getting extra help with everything, and needing me at her side for all outings. As a lifelong avid reader, she misses her books most of all, and even the largest font in her Kindle is no longer enough. Books on tape, and the Chirp app (like Audible, but more affordable) help. I will tell her about Judi Dench; she’ll smile to know she’s not alone.

  3. I really do hope that story on Judi with give your mom a lift. I am glad you mentioned the Audible app that might help some others. Have a great day, Connie.

  4. I agree with you, Karen…dementia is perhaps my biggest fear with aging. We have enjoyed this way of eating…it has been very natural for us. So sorry you have to look at the uglies for five months.
I hope we get our regular San Antonio landscape back soon!

  5. Once again so much to learn today. I will go back for more later, but I was so sorry to read about Dame Judi. My mom had that as well, and my optometrist is always aware and checking me out. It must be quite a shock to see your landscape like that when you are not used to it. We have nothing but bare and brown for 5 to 6 months and that is why the spring is so wonderful to see here. Going to deep dive into some recipes and a change.

  6. Great selection of reading today, Pamela, thank you. The Med diet info was interesting, especially as this is what we eat most of the time — tons of raw or lightly steamed veggies & mostly chicken & fish. We have friends here on the west coast who fish & keep us supplied with fresh salmon, halibut & shell fish & yes, we ARE lucky! I did laugh at Ina’s recipe, though: I’ve been cooking chicken like this for years & call it Parm Chicken Cutlet. And here I thought I’d invented it 🙂 I usually serve it with a spinach, artichoke heart & quinoa salad, steamed ginger carrots & a mushroom sauce. Hope everyone is enjoying a great First of March!
