TODAY’S FASHION NEWS FOR WOMEN

Today's News for Women Over 50

We had a great discussion last Sunday on this blog (post here) about the frustrations of shopping for women who are both Misses and Plus Size..  This article captured my attention after that.  I have tried on clothing at Loft and had to have plus size in order for it to fit there…but no more.  I may shop them for my daughter, but not for me.  From HuffPost, read Why Loft’s Decision to Quit Selling Plus Sizes Was A Slap in the face to women like me.

On the brighter side of retailing, apparently many women like me are supporting JJill.  From Yahoo Finance, read a quick report in JJill, Inc. Announces Fourth Quarter Results.

TODAY’S HEALTH NEWS FOR WOMEN

Today's News for Women Over 50

I believe many of us worry about brains and how to keep them active and strong.  So, I was particularly interested in this article from The Washington Post, What really works to help an aging brain.  It’s not going to function like it did in your 20s, but there are things you can do.

LET’S THINK SPRINGTIME!!!

  1. The article about The Loft was well thought out and retailers should pay attention. I have never enjoyed shopping there because of their narrow focus, not in sizing necessarily, but the staff, the trendy overall feeling. Shopping at the regular Ann Taylor stores doesn’t have that narrow focus. I agree that J Jill is a favorite retailer for good reason. They seem to have a sense of what women are looking for and keep pace. The staff is helpful but not pushy and for me, that’s something I’m mindful of when shopping. They know their product line. Also read with interest the article on brain health. I found it encouraging.

  2. Thanks, Pam, for sharing these timely and interesting news articles. I enjoyed each one very much.
Tulips are my fav flower – they just shout spring!
Your slide show today is also exceptional (for me!).
Your blog post today started my day off very nicely. 💃🌷💼

  3. Thanks for these really interesting articles, especially on brain health! Hopeful. Tulips are my go to flower as they are part of my aesthetic gateway to Springtime I gave three cases full at this moment! Love them!
And that green/pink handbag you showcased- love it!
On Loft- I once had great luck putting together cute but nature outfits from there but it’s changing ( or I am) and other than an occasional Vee Neck sweater or loungewear I rarely find that I can assemble an entire outfit from our store.

  4. You do love tulips! The hardest part for me is which color I want…I came home with red recently and now want white. All are so pretty! Thanks for joining in, Paulette!

  5. Every one of these are great. The Loft decision is one that will be felt by many, and in solidarity they may lose many more customers. I was excited to learn of the Walmart ideas, but can only hope it transfers to the Canadian stores. I do like Brandon. You have so many great stores in the US that we cannot access such as JJill that I find it frustrating this past year especially. The brain article was really informative, and just goes to show that there is no quick pill to make everything better. Joanna always has fantastic ideas and is such fun to follow. I think I will have to pick up some potted spring flowers at the next grocery outing since it will be a couple months for the ones outside to bloom. Thanks for more great articles to keep us thinking.

  6. I have never found clothes to my taste at the Loft. My daughter loves it, though and recently purchased a bundle of work related items on their sale rack. They have chosen their age niche. My daughter says she wouldn’t shop at JJill or Chicos. So there you have it. Love tulips and daffodils. They sure bring out smiles right now. I always plant them in containers so I can move them around the yard for spots of color.

  7. Another great collection of Good Things, Pamela, thank you. Your slide show is delicious — those orange & pink floral cushions make me want to re-do my entire living room! It’s going to be interesting to see what the retail clothing experience looks like post-Covid. Some stores/labels think things are going to go back to “normal” once we’re out of masks & lock-down, but I’m not sure most of us even still know what “normal” looks like for us! I know some women can’t wait to get back to the malls, but I have a lot of friends who, now they’re out of the habit of shopping as entertainment, have no desire to go back to it & in fact are reveling in cleaning out their lives & homes & not adding to the clutter of clothing & “stuff” they don’t actually need. But who knows, maybe we’ll all swing back the other way & shop ourselves silly in relief! LOL!
