Would You Wear It – Vibrant Dresses

Would You Wear It - Vibrant Dresses

Happy Saturday, ladies, and welcome to Would You Wear It – Vibrant Dresses?

On Saturdays, my friend, Jennifer, and I post fashion displays we have discovered around our towns.

We want to know if you would or would not wear the items in the display.

Would You Wear It - Vibrant Dresses

We ask that you look them over and with constructive thought tell us if you would or would not wear the items and then explain exactly why.

Other readers learn from these comments or even connect through these comments.  It doesn’t help anyone to merely say YES or NO.

Dresses are big this year!  I am not sure why there seem to be more than ever before…I guess women are just ready to let their legs breathe after being mostly inside for months.

This display is at Anthropologie…..a retailer for all ages.

So look my two cheerful and vibrant mannequins over and tell us………………………………………………………….

WOULD YOU WEAR IT??

VIBRANT INSPIRATION

Would You Wear It - Vibrant Dresses

I selected reader, Kathleen R, because she used the word VIBRANT in her style goal…she wants her clothing choices to reflect a vibrant older woman.  But, she also said more…

“I am 73, 5 ft tall and overweight (170 lbs on a pear-shaped body).  I think my style is natural/preppy so it is no surprise that my style icons are Lauren Hutton and Kate Hepburn.

I am a summer in terms of color with my favorite colors on a blue/teal scale.  I live in Vail, a suburb of Tucson, so cool clothing is a must (I seldom need a third piece).

Also I have Parkinson’s Disease which is starting to affect my gait. I want my clothing choices to reflect a vibrant older woman.”

The five adjectives Kathleen wants to communicate about herself with her clothing are confident, relevant, effortless, kind, put together.

Notice that though Kathleen’s goal is to be vibrant, she has no adjective included such as artistic or creative…she is more natural/preppy/classic as described.

Her vibrancy will come from confidence in what she is wearing and I looked for the adjectives plus flattering fit.

Typically, a pear shaped figure has hips and thighs wider than shoulders and bust.

Flattering pieces will direct the eye line of the beholder to the waist or to the neckline with a V-neck top. Peplum tops are great because they float away from the tummy area yet accentuate a waist line.

Kathleen, I hope this slideshow inspires you and that you have fun with it…I also hope it inspires women like you!  Thanks for joining in!

It is so much fun to do this for the readers plus get to know you better!  More to come next week, and remember if you want to participate, send me your five style adjectives at over50feeling40@gmail.com,

The goal is to inspire you with looks that speak to your adjectives that you might not consider.

Now, go over to A Well Styled Life and see what Jennifer has to discuss, then make sure you comment on the dresses here, and make double sure you always…..

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. Both dresses are bright! I do like a breezy cotton/linen dress on a hot day but dresses with tiers are not for me. The yellow dress has so much fabric and those sleeves are too much for me. I don’t wear yellow or orange.
    Happy Saturday!

  2. About these styles today, I’d try the orange dress if it came in a petite. It’s a fun pattern and color for summer and would look good with a wrap in air-conditioned places. I’d wear it with some summery heeled sandals. The other dress is a “no” for me. It’s too much fabric for my frame and to my eye, too busy. The interesting thing is, I’d probably try it if it was a top. I don’t care for shoulder baring looks at all. Nothing wrong with my shoulders, I just have always been turned off by that look. Since it can be worn both ways, I’d try it as a top, but as a dress, definitely not. I like Kathleen’s adjectives and the styles you show for her.

  3. oh i love the yellow one….i would stop and look at it, and think of the days that i could get away with it, lol.
but its not for me anymore.
same with the orange one, i dont like the print as much, but with a cute modern white belt it would be so cute on someone else.

  4. I wouldn’t wear those particular dresses – They are too busy for me. But I did buy a midi shirtdress from J. Jill that is in a rich winey-pink they call winterberry.

  5. I have a younger friend, who worked in Dallas as a designer.I was at a party and mentioned someone else’s dress and she called it a” Notice me” dress. I have appied that to lots of clothing over the years. Both those dresses are Notice me! kind of clothes that if you wore it a second time, someone would say or thing,OMG here she comes again in that dress!Personally. I do like vivid prints, only in small amounts, like in tops or blouse that I am more comfortable wearing. The orange dress would be good for a beach dress for me and my life style! We are having a rainy Sat. here. hope you are having good weather and can get outside!

  6. I would wear the orange one. Perfect sun dress. Orange my favorite color in summer.

  7. The dresses are very interesting and wow- do catch the eye! Unfortunately the yellow longish sleeved dress would overwhelm me I think, so I’d pass on it . Now the orange dress could be a swimsuit cover up or an after beach wear dress if stopping for snacks or a cool drink near the shore. I’d look for it in a petite.
They both shout “summer is here!” And THATmakes it fun to study them…..it’s so cold here today!

  8. It is surprisingly cold in San Antonio this morning…very windy and in the 50s. Not our usual mid-April. But it will be hot soon enough! Enjoy your day, Susan!

  9. The yellow dress is pretty but would be a definite no for me. With my skin tone, I really look like death warmed over in yellow. I like the orange dress & would wear it on a beach vacation.

  10. I love the yellow one with sleeves. It’s bright and cheerful. The flower print is small in scale and beautiful colors. I’m tall and can carry lots of fabric and I like dresses that are “floaty” and move a lot. I don’t like the orange and white dress as much because I’ve moved away from sleeveless and I’m not as fond of large scale prints.

  11. These are a no for me as orange and yellow are not flattering although I do like primary colours. In a different colour and smaller print I might try them on to see if cutting off the flounce would make them the perfect length for my 5 foot height.

  12. I was admiring those dresses just last week. I’ve ventured further into color this year, but I think not this far for me.

  13. I do not think the colors would work for me. Also, I feel like there is too much fabric which would not enhance my shape.

  14. I love the bright colours and the patterns but yellow and orange are not flattering colours for me. However, I would definitely wear a dress in either style in a different colour. Great for a hot sunny day😀

  15. The yellow dress is too too busy for me. I am petite and I know this is not for me. However for someone tall would probably pull it off.

The sleeveless dress is something I might wear at the beach or on a hot day relaxing at home.

  16. These look like fun dresses ans they sing of warmer weather to come but neither appeal to me: the volume of fabric, the colors, the floral pattern, the length. I don’t wear sleeveless except under a jacket or cardigan. The pieces in the slideshow are all my style thought so I appreciate those ideas!

  17. I am 5-10 so I could wear both dresses. I do prefer the yellow one, the orange one is Ok but I probably would not purchase.

  18. Both of these dresses are a no for me. Both are the wrong length & have too much fabric for my short, round figure. The yellow dress is very pretty & feminine, but orange is not a good color for me.

  19. I wouldn’t wear either of these dresses.

However, if the prints were done in a top or blouse, I’d definitely say yes! As is, there is just too much going on for a dress. These prints are lovely colors and definitely have the summer vibe!

I like the choices you’ve made for Kathleen! I can relate to many of her adjectives so this is very helpful!

  20. My answer to this fear of being noticed that we women have had hammered into us is that we need to focus on pleasing ourselves, not other people. especially those with nothing better to do than criticize others about their clothing choices. My response to someone thinking “oh, here she comes again in that dress” is “get a life, honey!”

  21. I rarely wear dresses anymore, but absolutely LOVE these two. I’d wear both of them around home on hot summer days but probably not out & about simply because the chartreuse one would need heels to keep me from being overwhelmed with all that fabric & I no longer care for heels if I have a lot of running around to do, & the orange one would be too cold in air-conditioned stores without some kind of wrap. But for home, walks & backyard entertaining (should we EVER find ourselves doing those things again!): perfect.

  22. Mannequins are hard to judge! I bought an Anthropologie dress in the same collection- a more sophisticated pattern with flattering colors. It makes me smile.

  23. Am not much one for florals but take the flounce of the yellow dress and convert it to a long sleeved shirt or even a sleeveless tank/tunic top and I’d snatch it up, as love its color combo. With either; the sky would be the limit for bottoms. As to the actual dress, a ‘no’ for me given reason as mentioned plus I would feel uncomfortable at my age in such a neckline and its type of sleeve doesn’t work for me. In respect to the orange dress; oh ‘yes’ as it is a style/color I would definitely feel confident in and suits my body type as well as lifestyle. Can visualize it with a belt even, choice of favourite footwear and perhaps even a long sleeved lightweight ‘T’ underneath if in a cooler environment. -Brenda-

  24. The yellow dress is beautiful and I was attracted to it immediately! I wouldn’t wear it though, because to me, it seems like it would for the 20 to 40 year old set. I love the florals and it just looks like vacation! In fact, I thought it was a store in Florida or someplace tropical. I was just in my local Anthropologie store and they didn’t have anything like that.
I think the other dress could be for a wider age range, but I wouldn’t buy it because I don’t like orange. I also don’t wear sleeveless anymore, but I could see it with a very light weight white shrug and white tassel earrings, a neutral sandal and a neutral beach style hat.

  25. I’d possibly wear the orange one but I’m afraid it will be too much fabric for my short body. The yellow print is too much print and too much fabric for me. I do prefer wearing dresses when it’s hot.

  26. As others have responded, I would feel overwhelmed in all the fabric (I feel more stylish and free in knee length dresses). The colours would not suit me. And I suit less colourful pattens and less bold prints. I also like to protect my shoulders from the sun in summer but bare my arms (so I would not go for the sleeves on either dress). But overall, it is the volume of fabric that puts me off. I go for wash and wear. These dresses look like they would need careful washing and ironing, which I have no time for on lazy summer days.

  27. A couple of years I wouldn’t have thought wearing something so voluminous but one day I threw on a caftan that my sister gave me. Now I am sold …
I’d even give that orange and white one a go
However, I have my eye on that yellow and peach shirt in the background
