The Joys of Thrift Store Treasures

The Joys of Thrift Store Treasures

Happy first Sunday in May!  Today I want to share the joys of recent thrift store treasures!

I have written often about Goodwill San Antonio stores and how fabulous they are and to day is more thrift-treasure-proof!

Plus, it gives me great joy to know how much it is helping our community when I shop there.

The Joys of Thrift Store Treasures

I love this outfit and I put it together from two Goodwill locations….found the wonderful light sweater from Chaps at Kohls in one trip.

Then in another trip I found the leather tote with my initial on it…both pieces light new…and less than $5.

I added my own Talbot’s jeggings, Chico’s white jacket, and Naturalizer lilac ballet flats (link below) to bring the look together…and yes, it gives me joy and creates a huge smile!

Treasure hunting at great thrift stores is much fun for me and especially when I discover something I will wear often.

Thank you to everyone who gave me your thoughts on the phrase “affordable fashion” on Friday.

It was so interesting to read all of your opinions.  I am very much in the consideration of “cost-per-wear.”

That is why I have so many Eileen Fisher pieces….I wear them over and over and over again and they are constructed to be sustainable.

I pay close attention to the pieces I go to the most and then evaluate why…so that I understand what my preferences really are.

When I want to have more fun with fashion, I go to Goodwill for that fun…it promotes sustainability and provides enjoyment for something I really love…fashion!

If you want to step out of your comfort zone and try some quirky styles, then thrift is the way to go!

THE TREASURES I WAS REALLY SEEKING

The Joys of Thrift Store Treasures

Grandchildren!  I often see them more during the summer and I was looking for toys and books to prepare.  I am never disappointed.

I always find treasures I know they will love…in addition to a great stash of books, I came home with a new Paw Patrol full size jeep and I know two little ones who will love it…cost to me was $12!

This was one of my more successful trips to a few local Goodwills in my area.  I came away with perfect items for the kids, plus a fun new look for me.

SCORE!

ADDITIONAL JOY AND DIFFERENT TREASURES

I am able to wear this new top so confidently because of the The Super Power Short by Honeylove.  They have excellent, comfortable, slimming products.

Honeylove claims to be the world’s most innovative shapewear…and they just might be!!

The Joys of Thrift Shopping

I confess, I have been a bit bored with so many neutral shoes in my closet that I wanted to mix it up and bit.

These VIVIENNE Flats are fun, beautiful, and my feet love the comfort…this was a good choice for me.

Now, if you like this look I put together today…you can do something similar with this pieces:

Sure they are not treasures in a thrift shop…but if you love them they are still treasures!

I hope you will be here tomorrow morning for something new!  And I will want to know if you like the idea…so stop by…and make sure today you…………….

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. I love everything about this look! The top has such beautiful colors and will be fun to wear, alone or under a jacket. Love the shoes, and like you, I have enough neutral shoes and am now investing in some fun colors. Yours are a nice shape. How fantastic that you found a bag with your initial on it!! And in a fun color! I agree that good thrift stores can turn up many treasures. And a big yes to evaluating your lifestyle and shopping accordingly. I’m going to get the Eileen Fisher slim system pants when the weekend shopping trip takes place later this month. My sister got them last year and wears them a lot and they always look perfect. Time for me to invest in them too!

  2. Happy Sunday, Karen! Those EF pants are great ones to own. They wear so well with easy care!

  3. That sweater is a beautiful find and will work in with so many things. Great find. And the items for the grandkids are perfect. And that Paw Patrol, what a find. They will love it and when they outgrow it, you won’t feel bad about the price and can send it off to someone else. I usually come home with a stack of books since I read them rather quickly, then send them back when finished. Oh how I miss the thrifting, but as my husband says, do I really need anything more right now. … Well, yes. Ha.

  4. Super finds, Pamela and that tote with your initial is certainly a keeper! Am looking forward to our fashion retail stores opening up again with hopes it will be soon. Re Naturalizer shoes; they are one of the few brands that I can order online (besides Keds in sneakers) that I know will be a perfect fit. Oh, regarding the goodies you got for your grandchildren; I’ve been fortunate as have a few young neighbours that I have passed such along to for their children, when my Grandchildren outgrew them. (Past tense; since the youngest is now in her Tweens).

  5. My favorite item in my closet is an Eileen Fischer wool felted boxy jacket, no buttons, in a magenta color. I purchased it in a second hand shop. It goes with so much due to its simplistic style and vibrant color. I am sure I paid around $25 for it. A find that I love and wear frequently. I never could have owned an Eileen Fischer at regular prices. I have also found wonderful, heavy Southwestern jewelry in thrift shops through the years.

  7. What great treasures you found! I am envious of your Goodwill Store in San Antonio. The two I have visited in my area are not well manage & always quite messy. I may have to check out the store in a nearby town to see if it is better.

  8. I love to read a book or use an item and then donate it back. For just a few dollars it gives lots of satisfaction.

  9. It’s fun to share books and toys! You are setting a great example, Brenda!

  10. I always see Eileen Fisher and the Southwestern jewelry on EBay! Easy to find some great deals! Thanks for sharing, Kathy!

  11. I know San Antonio is lucky to have such a great Goodwill organization and a community that supports them with quality donations!

  12. Wow! A tote with your initial on it! That’s a pretty amazing find.

I love thrift store shopping. I haven’t found anything very exciting on my last couple of visits, but another time I know I’ll find some great treasures.

  13. I go often to come home empty handed, but then are trips like this one that score big. Good to see you, Elaine!

  14. Your outfit looks cheerful and flatters you!

I have have success with Eileen Fisher Renew, their service that refurbishes all the clothes returned through their “green” program. The prices are not as
low as what I might find in a thrift shop, but the items are in wonderful condition and Eileen Fisher makes a charitable donation for every piece of refurbished clothing purchased. It’s a way to support sustainable clothing and get a great brand.

    Thanks for your blog.

  15. Thanks for sharing about the EF Renew program…very good to know!
