  1. I had heard about the Mediterranean diet helping with brain function. I have been eating this way for quite awhile so these things were good to know. Watching my mother’s decline is scary. Definitely need some work in the sleep and stress areas. This is a very stressful period for me at the current time, and I’m doing my best to manage that, but sleep is something that’s been lacking. It’s tied to the stress and not being successful at shutting down thinking and overthinking! The article on the couple living in the bus was interesting. I’m always interested in pared down living stories. I have downsized considerably and have found it freeing. They did a great job on their bus!

  2. We watched both of our mothers decline with dementia. I know how difficult and stressful it can be. Praying for you, Karen and for your sleep.

  3. I enjoyed all of the articles, but was especially interested in the Vitamin D article. Several months ago when the pandemic was raging so, our doctor asked if we took large doses of Vitamin D. He had read a medical article about a connection between low levels of Vitamin D and Covid cases in particular among people of color who do not absorb as much through sunlight. We have been taking larger doses, 2500-5000 IU per day, so we did not need to add it to our daily routine. However, I have repeated this information to several of my former students, and friends to be sure they are also aware of this need. Sadly, some of them are not willing to get the vaccine, but they have increased their Vitamin D intake. This article indicating a connection between mitochondrial function and Vitamin D is yet another benefit.

  4. Another great assortment of useful and fun information. That tour bus is gorgeous but there is no way I could live in that with another person full time. I need space and am not ready to give up all the ‘things’ that make me happy. Always love looking at the hats at the Derby, or anywhere they are so noticable. We do not have Kohls unfortunately and Sephora is hours way so that is not alot of help for us unless a road trip is in the plan. I have more diving to do into your articles, but thanks for curating the info for us.

  5. The Mediterranean diet reported on in the article was not the one most Americans think of, but was instead the diet followed (and scientifically studied heavily) on Cyprus a few decades ago. It was very successful, but it is truly plant based, with meat eaten only occasionally, as a condiment to flavor food. I have been eating mostly plant based for several years, and recommend highly a book called Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman MD. Even if not read for weight loss, the nutrition information and the charts provided were absolutely game changing.

  6. Thank you Pam for the interesting reads, it was a wonderful selection. Loved the idea of the van but I know I would go stir crazy adter a while. My husband and i both work from home and having a extra room now the kids have flown sure does help the marriage getting some space! Also I would hate for every night to have to turn up at a designated site and be around strangers and hear their noise and partying. Love my neighborhood and the bird song very thankful for the peace.
    Have a lovely weekend friend!

  7. So glad you found benefit in that article, Celia. We have also been told by our doctor about the importance of Vitamin D.

  8. You are welcome Diane. I could not live in the bus…unless that was the last option and I would find a way to be joyful with it!!

  9. I also would not like being a nomad and going from place to place with no home base. I understand, Francesca. I also love my home with my neighbors and the birds!! You have a lovely weekend as well!

  10. Great collection of articles, Pamela, thank you. Our diet is predominantly plant & fish based & I’m always looking for recipe ideas & this got me to log into our local library & order a couple of “Mediterranean diet” recipe books. I also really enjoyed the article about the couple living in a bus. What a gorgeous home they’ve made for themselves while living an adventure! We have retired friends who live & travel all over Canada in a gorgeous RV they customized from an old tour bus, but I admit that while I love listening to their stories, I have no urge to join them. My husband’s 6’5″ in bare feet with shoulders to match & takes up a lot of space & as much as we love each other & enjoy spending time together — it’s why we retired early, after all — I have a feeling sharing a bus on a permanent road-trip might wear a bit thin after a while 🙂 The idea of dramatically downsizing really appeals to me, especially when it comes to clothes & house-hold items (seriously, how many sets of sheets & towels do 2 people really need??), but I’d rather adapt that slimmed-down way of living to an actual house on solid land. Love these various & varied discussions you bring us, btw. I find the posts on fashion fun, but as I’m very serious about reducing my wardrobe to the barest minimum, it’s nice to get my head out of the closet now & again 🙂 Hope everyone has a great weekend!
