Soma Cool Nights: My Summer BFF

Soma Cool nights: My summer BFF

Happy Tuesday! Let’s discuss Soma Cool Nights: My summer BFF!

Full disclosure, I have struggled with sleep for years…since menopause came into my life.

I do many things to assure a good night’s sleep, but at the top of my list….I must be cool…even cold…to sleep.

In the summer in South Texas, that can pose a  challenge with humidity and high temps.

Soma Cool Nights: My summer BFF

This is the reason why my summer BFFs include Soma’s Cool Nights Collection.

I love these garments, and really could wear my Cool Nights Short Sleeve Night Shirt all day if I did not have to go out.

Cool Nights®® fabric is made with lightweight rayon fibers that stay cool to the touch and keep the fabric from sticking to your body.

They are ON SALE right now…2 for $60 and that is quite a savings.  Here are a few of my favorites:

SOMA Cool Nights - My summer BFF

I am excited to add the Cool Nights Short Robe in the Jaguar Mini Nutmeg print to my closet.

It will be perfect for home and travel this summer.

So, in order to get a good night’s sleep this summer, I must be true to most of this list daily:

  1. Exercise
  2. Eat healthy and try not to eat after about 4:00.
  3. Be very determined to stop looking at phones, IPADS, and television at least 30-60 minutes before bedtime.
  4. Take Melatonin
  5. Spray my pillow with lavender and use lavender oil on my wrists
  6. Try my best to set all worry aside

And sleep in a Cool Night’s sleep shirt under my bamboo sheets.  I know that is a lot, but if I am faithful with my list, it works for me.

Would anyone else like to share their sleep secrets!  I, for one, would love to hear.  When I sleep well, it is much easier each day to……..

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. I hope someone has some tips, because I struggle greatly with getting the sleep I need. Stressful times make it more difficult because I wake up and my brain starts going! I have tried keeping paper and a pen by my bed so I can write things down rather than worry about remembering. I avoid electronics an hour before bed and read a book or magazine instead. Est early, you name it. I’m in the boat with you! My sister gave me Soma Cool Nights pajamas that she got for a gift and never wore. I tried to tell her she’d love them, but they came my way and I’m glad! They really are something special. I’m going to check out the sale because mine are more for cooler weather. I certainly recommend them!

  2. The lavender pillow mist reminded me of the days when I taught pre school……at nap time after they were all on cots and hugging their blankets I’d walk around with “sweet dreams spray” (lavender mist) and spritz around them and wish each child “Sweet dreams….” It always put a smile on their faces and mine…………

  3. My grandchildren love for me to give them lavender oil on their wrists when they sleepover. And I spray their pillows too!

  4. These sleep shirts are special…you are right Karen! I think I need a couple more while they are on sale!!

  5. Oh yes I can relate! Since menopause I must be COLD not just cool to sleep soundly. Even though sheets are laundered weekly I change my pillowcase every other night usually coordinating with washing my hair. Clean hair equals clean pillowcase .
I must get to Soma as I’ve been sleeping in cotton in summer ((currently 90 and humid) though we aren’t warm all year long as you are.; I still feel warm certain nights even with AC humming along.
    Good advice!

  6. I too have sleep issues, especially since menopause. I second your suggestions, especially having a calming routine, having an empty tummy, and taking melatonin. I make it a point not to nap during the day. Many sleep experts say to go to sleep and wake up every morning at the same time each day, which I haven’t “formally” tried, but seems to work well when I go through a period when that happens. We also get the house really cold, because being covered by something helps me. Mostly, I try not to stress about having a bad night, realizing I will sleep better the next one.

  7. I do practice going to bed and getting up at the same time whenever possible. It is hard to avoid interruptions from others….don’t tell Mr. B I said that!

  8. Don’t laugh, but I sleep with an ice pack every night. I start with it under my pillow, and when I wake up, I flip my pillow to the “cold” side, and place the ice pack near my chest. It helps me stay cool. Night hot flashes are the worst!

  9. No laughter here! Completely understand. I also have a cooling pillow!

  10. I have been wanting to try these sleep shirts, so I just ordered two. Thanks for this post Pam! Have a blessed day!

  11. In addition to all of the above I added a sleep mask. What a game changer it has been. I must have thin eyelids; my sleep has been much sounder. (Wish I had thought about cool packs in the thick of my hot flashes. Finally after many years no more flashes.🙏🏻 )

  12. When my brain won’t stop the worry cycle I tell it to relive me singing lullabies to my grandchildren. It almost always listens and slumber comes.

  13. It’s interesting how different each of our bodies are! I absolutely must eat shortly before bedtime or I will be awake half the night. It can’t be anything sweet though as that is guaranteed to keep me awake. A small bowl of unsweetened cereal, some unsweetened trail mix, or a few crackers with cheese are my usual go to bedtime snacks. Also, I must be warm… not hot, but definitely not cold.

  14. All these suggestions work most of the time, but sometimes not at all. I’ve slept so much better since ditching anything polyester. I just sweat all night. When I wake up and can’t turn off my brain, I’ll try relaxation techniques from a self hipnosis class I took decades ago with some success. 1st I imagine putting all those thoughts in drawers and shutting them. Then I try tensing my whole body and relaxing each area, one at a time while slowly breathing. Sometimes it takes a few tries. Other times I just get up and read a few chapters. I rarely suffer from lack of sleep the next day.

  15. One of the things that helps me relax is coloring in an adult coloring book with colored pencils. I also read selected material, no mysteries or thrillers. I can’t do the lavender thing as it makes me sneeze, but I do light a scented candle, usually a light scent. I also must have it quite cool to sleep.

  16. Wow! We use melatonin and lavender oil on the pi;;ow nightly for sleep also. Great minds think alike.
I love these sleep shirts. I am going to try them.
    Thanks
