A new research study on sunscreen is getting a lot of attention, and I have seen at least three medical professionals speak on this topic.

Remember when reading, that if you are using one of these sunscreens, it takes ALOT of slathering it on to be in harm’s way.

From Live Science, read CANCER-CAUSING CHEMICAL FOUND in 78 SUNSCREEN PRODUCTS.

  1. Guess I’m officially old because I recognized 47 of the 50 things although I’ve never actually used or owned some of the others myself (my Dad used Old Spice but no other man in my life ever has & I’ve never even seen a real Ding Dong or used a push button gear shift). Some aren’t old at all & can be found in any store (vegetable peeler, potato masher, meat tenderizer), but some predate me by at least a generation (the washboard & that old sink). My sister still has (& probably still uses) her Rival Crock Pot & electric frying pan. And as far as I know people are still using nut crackers & Jiffy Pop popcorn, so I’m not sure what’s so “old” about them either. One funny thing: my sister admitted to me not that long ago that it took her YEARS to figure out how to switch between low & high beams back in the day because her husband, who’d taught her to drive, hadn’t shown her “the button” & she was too embarrassed to ask.

  2. Lots of interesting things to read. The sunscreen article is an eye-opener. I never knew that. Will be checking my products! The food swap article is also interesting. I’m actually doing quite a few of them, some are really unusual, like bananas in place of ice cream (no thanks!!), or using the liquid from a can of chickpeas for eggs. I never have heard that before, but there are a lot of good suggestions. I enjoyed reading all of these. Thank you for finding and sharing them with us!

  3. LOL on the sister story…something I would do! My dad used so much Old Spice that I can actually smell it when I hear the name…don’t think of this as old, think of it as life experiences!
    Thanks Janet.

  4. You are welcome, Karen. The sunscreen study is very new, but I felt like it was important to get the word out now.

  5. I’m officially old as well but perhaps Pamela being a teacher, you could tell me what is #48? ☺ It’s the only one I don’t recognize ….. lol! As to the article on Sunscreen, my best friend’s uncle who lived to be the ripe old age of 104 (who was ‘sharp as a whip’) use to say “if you cannot pronounce it correctly let alone spell it, it is probably not good for you”. Haven’t read the others yet, but do appreciate your time in providing such.

  6. I do know! Number 48 was used in my music classes to draw the lines on the board for the notes!

  7. Well, I am officially old. The only one I did not understand was 46. That was fun to remember some of them. I have more diving to do into the other articles, but just last year I switched to physical sunscreens due to problems with the chemical ones. Great selection of reading today Pam. Oh, Vera Wang, I found an article on her recently that says now at this stage in life she is starting over again after having her brand bought. Interestingl

  8. @Diane: Re #46. I know when we were kids, when playing with Plasticine my mother would line the arborite kitchen table top with newspaper and its print would often transfer unto to it. -Brenda-

  9. Oh gosh, what a trip down memory lane! I knew all except for #48 — so thank you for answering that one! I can just taste that Ding Dong, too!! ha ha

I’ve just got to share that list with my sisters!!

Lots of great information today, Pam! Thank you.
