How I will embrace six traits of bohemian style

How I will embrace six traits of bohemian style

Happy Tuesday!  Today I want to discuss how I will embrace six traits of bohemian style.
I am actually really glad to be a combination of two styles…bohemian and romantic for my style refresh.   The romantic side actually helps me to tone things down a bit when I want to.

Yesterday, I was wearing a red top with the yellow topper which had a ruffled collar and three tiny buttons on the front…that was my nod to the romantic in me!

Today, I am standing in front of this majestic neighborhood tree because styling bohemian again takes me back to my deep roots.  Right now there are six traits I plan to embrace and others I do not believe I will try right now.

BOHEMIAN STYLE TRAIT #1

How I will embrace six traits of bohemian style

Today’s vintage, flowy poncho represents how I will wear soft flowing garments which fit my curves nicely.

One thing I love is that it takes my visits to thrift and consignment shops to a new fun level.  And in San Antonio, we have a large new consignment shop at Highway 281 & Bitters Road, TOO GOOD TO BE THREW.

They just consolidated all of their locations into one big one…it is a lot of fun!

BOHEMIAN STYLE TRAITS #2, #3, #4

How I embrace six traits of bohemian style

Bohemian style trait number two is wearing fun, funky prints like in the kimono and the poncho.

And another bohemian style trait is to mix prints.  I have always loved to do that when the prints are in the same color story….so I plan to embrace this big time and have some fun with it.

Bohemian style Trait number 4 is to layer clothing…again something I have always enjoyed doing.  Even in warm South Texas, I love to embrace a third piece!

Underneath the poncho, I am wearing a Pima V-neck JJill tank, because the poncho itself is very thin.

Underneath my kimono, I am wearing a relaxed cropped pocket tee shirt from GAP in a burnt russet red.

BOHEMIAN STYLE TRAIT #5

How I will embrace six traits of bohemian style

Bohemian style trait number five is wearing artisan accessories…something else I have always loved and had gone away from.

I love big, artsy, creative accessories and now will look for them in my autumn color palettes as I wrote about last Friday.

Accessories are a huge part of bohemian style and that is one of the reasons I like it!

BOHEMIAN STYLE TRAIT #6

How I will embrace six traits of bohemian style

Bohemian Style Trait number 6 is to embrace earth tones…which fits perfectly with my “autumn” color palette as well as with bohemian styles.

Now, there are bohemian style traits I do not plan to wear at this time…we will see…I am learning to be open minded and teachable.

They are the fringe trend in boho pieces…not a real fringe fan!  Also, the large flowy legs on some pant styles.  I prefer a skinny/slimmer fit to my pants.

Also, some true bohemian dressers believe it is best not to look so put together…but I enjoy looking put together…so I will be watching to balance that with the romantic side of me.

Finally, I am not really confident in maxi dresses…so I will leave those to others who love them.

As I said, I am going to give the style advice I was given a shot.  We will see where it takes me…but I do know it has taken me back to some deep roots!

Stick with me for this new Style Refresh…it is a work in progress!

Today’s slideshow includes some bohemian looks for all color stories…make sure with the JJill Pima Scoop Neck Elbow Sleeve Tee to look at the print called Carbon Tropical Fruit

Thanks for being here and make sure you always……………………………

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. Absolutely love those colors! Gorgeous. It gives off a vibe of being friendly, cheerful, and adventure-loving! Thank you for this reminder that I don’t have to look stuffy and conservative because of my age.

  2. No…you don’t have to look that way!! Just pick your style personality and learn to express it. That is what I am doing. Thanks Debbie!

  3. You look sensational in your prints shown today! The shorter Ruana appears so versatile! I can envision the varied autumn colors layered underneath —-and that bracelet you’re wearing is a wow!

  4. It’s good to really understand a style like you have done, and interpret it in your own way, again, as you have done. This points out how we don’t have to walk a narrow path and can express our personalities no matter what style we choose. It seems to me that very strict interpretations would be more limiting. I love the colors in your top, the style of it and how it looks so beautiful with your hair and skin tone. That’s really well done! While I am most comfortable wearing classic styles, I admit that I have a few boho pieces that I enjoy, specifically embroidered tops. This is kind of a favorite casual look for me, worn with jeans. It’s freeing that we don’t have to walk a hard line. I agree with you about the pants. Of course, we never say never, but with flowy tops, narrow pants just do wonders for proportions. That said, I love the gauze, flowing pants that Soft Surroundings does such a great job with, but wouldn’t feel quite as comfortable in them with a more loose fitting top. A loose topper, yes. Anyway, it’s freeing to have more aspects to your style interpretation!

  5. I must have some bohemian in my gamin (?) side because I too like several of these traits. I’m all for flowing, funky, fun prints. I rarely am without a third piece, and struggle with my love of artisan accessories because I am small in statue and feel overwhelmed by large pieces. Since I love science, in particular biology, I’m always drawn toward earthy colors, especially greens, but they are not my best color palette. I so enjoyed your representation of these interesting traits today. Each morning I look forward to your new ideas.

  6. We must always remember that we do not have to follow any of the guidelines specifically or completely when we know our style personality type. That is where my adjectives really help me to keep it personal to me! I am enjoying playing with my new direction and hope over the next few months to be able to understand it better and how it becomes Pamela-style! Thanks Karen.

  7. love both looks. i am very fond of the curved hem tops..not sure of the science, but i think they really make me look slimmer.
im not a big fan of fringe either, i have two ruanas with it, and i think one is just going to be for a swimsuit cover….its the bright pink one Chicos had last year..its a little long and a bit too much on me for other purposes..the other is a dressy one that barely ever makes it out of the closet, as my dressy events are really rare anymore.

  8. I find it so interesting that the personality type that fits a person makes them look younger and vibrant, yet a deviation to a completely different style can make them look older and not well in some cases. A very classic style or natural style can do that for me, so there is always that little nudge in the back of my mind to ignore the suggestions for the must haves in the closet. This will be an ongoing evolution with tweaks along the way but you are embracing this with your typical JOY and enthusiasm. Great looks. And I am not a fringe person either.

  9. I like the fit of your jeans. Do you have a link or can you tell me where it’s from? Thanks and love the kimono outfit!

  10. Hi Mary, These jeans are no longer made…which just breaks my heart to say that. They were originally from Soft Surroundings and called Metro Leggings. I have owned them for years and still love to wear them! Sorry I do not have more information. The kimono was also from Soft Surroundings a few years back.

  11. I like how you are making bohemian your own … when I guessed “pared down bohemian” for you, I wondered if it even made sense. But you seem to really do that …. I think because you have one traditionally bohemian piece, plus statement jewelry, with the rest of it vibrantly colored, but pared down. Boho is my least favorite for me, as I always feel I’m wearing a costume. I guess that’s because I’m a huntswoman … who knew? That said, I think the personality types are far less valuable than the color analysis, and I will feel much freer about discarding mine if I don’t feel it fits, vs feeling very committed to the color palette of a blue autumn. I’m much more concerned with color, fit and silhouette for my body type.

  12. Really pretty top and necklace on you! Love how you’re embracing your style.
