Fall outfit for the theater

Fall outfit for the theater

Happy Sunday, friends.  Hope all is well your way.  I thought I would share with you how I created a fall outfit to wear to the theater again.

First, a little background:  Texas in the fall can be up and down and all around with the weather.  Many days start cool and end hot.

The fall/winter weather here always presents challenges for best outfits to wear.

I love the fall clothing…but some years we do not wear it full on until after Halloween.

Fall outfit for the theater

Last week was very cool with less humidity, and I decided I would wear a cute, stylish, gold jacket to see The Lion King at the Majestic Theater.

So, I got dressed first that day and while I was waiting on Mr. B, I began to feel very hot.  It was a much hotter, more humid day than the week before or even the morning of that day.

I needed to quickly improvise without much thought.

I went with an old faithful…a beautiful brown silk coat by Eileen Fisher that I have owned for a long time.

I put it over a column of black with an Eileen Fisher long tunic tank over Chico’s Tailored Ponte Leggings.

With a coat this long and flowy, I wanted slim legs on the bottom.

But, when I looked at it in the mirror it all seemed so dark…remember I have been wearing bright, vibrant colors since last June.

Mr. B was getting closer to being ready….so I knew accessories would have to quickly tell the story.

Fall outfit to the theater

Who would have guessed that my silk scarf would match the opening curtain and theater lights!!

I picked up the colors of the scarf in the Goldtone Adjustable Pendant Necklace, bracelet, and leather clutch. (The scarf, bracelet, shoes and clutch have been in my wardrobe a long time)

It wasn’t what I originally wanted….but it worked.

I was surprised at how dressed down many in the audience were…some around me looked like they were at a football tailgate party.

Mr. B smiled and said…”May we always be the best dressed in a crowd.”  He wore a suit without a tie.

Fall outfit for the theater

The Majestic Theater requires all attendees to wear masks, so Tux wanted to make sure we did not forget before rushing out the door!!

This is the second time I have seen The Lion King…it is still a gift to the senses and so much fun to watch.  I also enjoyed being with someone who had not seen it before.  He was mesmerized.

Since then, he keeps trying to figure out how they did certain things with the animal creations!

RECOMMENDATION

Fall outfit for the theater

We made it to dinner before the show and RODNEY STRONG was the house cab.  It is excellent…if you are a cabernet sauvignon fan.

Such a smooth, delicious, non-sweet wine made by a sustainable winery.

I am happy to return to colorful me this week, but also glad I kept the pieces I wore in my fall outfit to the theater.

It helps to have a backup plan when needed.  Most of the clothes I have purchased since I became a VIBRANT AUTUMN are casual clothes.

Since we have season tickets and for other occasions, perhaps I need some chic statement looks going forward in my colors.

Here are some possibilities:

What is your favorite musical/play to see on stage?  Would love to hear…have a wonderful day…and always….

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. Well done Pam. The photo in the theatre is stunning, with the scarf and necklace deserving star billing. And Mr B is astonishing – running at the Grand Canyon last week and offering “May we always be the best-dressed in the crowd” this week. Wow. That’s a double. And you definitely deserve some chic statements for the theatre – possibly to see my favourite, Hamilton”. Thanks for the very interesting slide show – the INC cheetah coat jumped out at me. Loved the colour and style (and price) and looks as though it would be very useful for lots of occasions. Have fun shopping. Looking forward to see what you choose. .

  2. Good for you for dressing up Pam! Your outfit is so stylish and perfect for a night out. Mr. B is certainly correct. I find it sad that people dress down for nice evenings out. Our culture has gone too casual for my taste. You chose well! That curtain in the theater is beautiful, and sweet little Tux!! Dogs can see a toy in just about anything!! Sounds like it was a perfect evening with a nice dinner and a show!

  3. I have to giggle, the last time I was flying, which is going back a couple years now…people looked like they were fixing to clean out their garage. I guess they didn’t get the memo that comfortable doesn’t have to be sloppy….it was an early morning flight, but I swear to you one young women had on her slippers , pjs, and a hair wrap….

  4. Perfect outfit, very beautifully done. We do not go often to musicals, but a few years ago traveling with our son to New York, we insisted to bring him to Broadway (!) and we saw Chicago. It was excellent and he was mesmerized by the show. You have wonderful musicals in the States.

  5. You look stunning! And yes The Lion King (costumes and Setting) is one of my all time favorites along with Les Miserables (music) and of course, Mama Mia!
You are dressed so right for a theater date.

  6. You look great all dressed up. I have always said better to be over dressed than underdressed going anywhere. It makes it feel more of an occasion, and respectful. Good for Tux to remember the mask, that is such a cute shot. I have never been to a theatre that looks that grand and it would be such a pleasure to have an evening like that.
Your slide show today is such a tempting treat. I just wish I had enough places to wear multiple pieces.

  7. You look lovely Pam! I love to dress up. That is one thing I miss being in the house for so long.
A play I enjoyed on Broadway was “Wicked.” It was dazzling, the costumes were so beautiful, the music was wonderful. I enjoyed every minute of it!

  8. The last time I was at the theater was to see Hamilton. Love your outfit, and I think you were right to “dress” for the occasion. I love many of the options in your slide show. I need to go back for a closer look. The two velvet dresses and many of the jackets/coats caught my eye. Keep us posted if you try on any “chic statement looks”. So true about living in a more casual style this past year and a half. Would love to see a picture of you and Mr. B ready to hit the town. 🙂

  9. I get how you put on that outfit and went, “ohhh, so dark.” I was trying on a beautiful Chico’s sweater tunic from my closet in all black, right up to the turtleneck. After so much color, my thought too was “ohhh, so dark.” We were certainly conditioned to that black, weren’t we? I put mine on with colored leggings and a big pendant, but I’m debating sending it to consignment. I might try again, because I like what you came up with. I do think the clutch makes the outfit in your case, though I like the scarf and jewelry.

  10. Loved all the comments about dressing up and down! It is amazing how people dress these days.To travel,go to a show,to the doctor, or just go out. It’s as if they got the “sloppy “message!. Thought your choice of accessories was right on, great colors. and the items you selected for the slideshow were great. I need to watch my budget around you!

  11. That is a beautiful outfit. I love that you used wardrobe staple pieces and added color and style with accessories. I would get more use out of an outfit like that, changing out scarves and jewelry, than purchasing a bold statement jacket. But then I have a boring social life! And I agree that dressing up is important. You will never show up in a People of Walmart slideshow.

  12. Pam, you looked lovely for your wonderful evening out! It is sad how some people dress nowadays even for going to a gorgeous theatre such as yours. I wouldn’t want to go back to wearing ball gowns and tiaras, but you have shown that you can look polished and elegant in a nice pants outfit. I really liked the Chico’s jade velvet kimono in your slide show today, but it’s a little pricey for the number of times that I would wear it. I’ll have to wait for a sale! Love seeing your sweet little doggie, Tux!

  13. I love Mr. B’s comment! I want to be one of the best dressed right along with the two of you. I’m with Karen in thinking that we are too casual these days.
My younger granddaughter was in a mini version of The Lion King when she was in junior high. It was a delight to the senses.

  14. My favorite play to see again at a theater, Lion King. The animals are unbelievable. So glad you were able to see it again.
You did a great job putting your outfit together. Thanks for sharing the quick change up.

  15. Love the colors in your scarf! My daughter, her boyfriend and I went to see Wicked (our favorite show) last night in North Carolina and we saw a woman wearing a track suit and a few others in t shirts and yoga pants. We fall into the Mr. B camp as far as being the best dressed and wouldn’t have it any other way! Have a great Sunday!

  16. The last time we were in NYC I was so excited to see “ To Kill A Mockingbird” with Jeff Daniel’s in the Atticus Finch role. Growing up near Monroeville, Alabama, where Harper Lee lived off and on, and where she died has special meaning to me since Harper’s sister, Miss Alice, was my brother and mother’s attorney. We also saw the Carole King musical, “ Beautiful” which was excellent. It was funny that most of the crowd was older as we are, and we all hummed, and sang much of the music as it was part of our younger lives. I’m looking forward to being able to return soon, and want to see not only “ Lion King”, assuming it’s still playing, as well as “ Phantom of the Opera” which re-opened this week.

  17. Pam, as a fellow Texan, I appreciate your posts on what to wear in warm fall weather. Your outfit is perfect for the theater. If the Eileen Fisher coat were still available I would get it in a flash. I, also, believe in dressing up for occasions like the theater. You are a classy lady!

  18. What a lovely evening out for you! I had to laugh when I saw the Rodney Strong cab, as this was the wine my husband and I decided early in our courtship was “our” wine. We still enjoy it very much and keep a couple bottles on hand along with newer finds (RoxyAnn Claret, Abacela Tempranillo or their Viognier, yummm!). We have tickets for February to enjoy Fiddler on the Roof, taking the folks for mother’s 84th birthday. I love Phantom, Cats, and am a huge fan of small community theater productions of all stripes.

  19. My favorite show of all is A Chorus Line. I saw it in Toronto as a teenager. I love the symphony. One of my sons is a classical musician. I feel like dressing up shows respect to the performers. My sister and I were just discussing how casual/sloppy people are dressing. Personally, I quit wearing hoodies and tennis shoes in public after catching sight of myself in a mirror. I didn’t like what I saw.

  20. Pam, you look fabulous as always! Thanks for your comments about the fall season. We have the same problem in Birmingham, AL. It was so seasonable two weeks ago and back to Indian Summer again. Your outfit is perfect with the metallic tones all picking up the autumnal shades in your scarf and jewelry. Plus, I love your longer hair (I haven’t been here in a while.)

  21. So nice to have you back! I have changed a lot in the past few months. It is all under the Style Refresh tab above. Thanks for commenting
