Wardrobe building sale by sale

Wardrobe building sale by sale

Yes! It’s Friday…aren’t October weekends simply the best?  Today, let’s discuss how I am wardrobe building sale by sale.

A reader recently commented on how expensive it is to completely change your wardrobe color palette…and I agree it is challenging.

However, I have sold many of my old clothes and put that money to use building a new vibrant autumn wardrobe through sales!  And this year, there have been some great sales!

BUILDING SALE BY SALE

I first tried this Chico’s Animal Print Crinkle Chiffon Shirt weeks ago when fall was beginning to hit the racks.

I really liked it  for it’s nice mix of oranges, yellows and a touch of purple….but I did not want to pay full price.  It is thin and I can only use it under a third piece.

However, for my new color focus a top like this is great to have as a transition piece…I will use it often leaving winter to spring.

So, when it began to drop…I ordered one.

I really like it with this Chico’s silk purple jacket that I have owned for years!  They were meant to be!

I have not paid full price for anything in my new wardrobe…I have been building it sale by sale!

In my recent online discussion with Susan, we discussed purchasing your colors when they are available, because they may not be next year.

That is what I have been doing with oranges and browns.  If the lovely warm burnt oranges and toasty browns go away, I will be set…at great prices.

  1. I rarely buy anything unless it is on sale. I have been watching a jacket from Chico’s go down in price for several weeks and started to buy it Tuesday night, but decided to wait until Wednesday morning to have time to look for other items too. And wouldn’t you know it , the jacket in the color I needed was not available the next morning. I should have learned long ago that if I want something, best get it while it’s available. This is especially true today when there seems to be less merchandise available. Hope you have a delightful October weekend!

  2. Good advice, Celia. I also am learning if there is something I really, really want to go ahead and get it. We do live in new retail times!

  3. Unfortunately, due to foot surgery, I’ve been unable to shop in person, which is challenging when trying to build a new blue autumn wardrobe. I’ve often had to bring in two sizes, check out the color better, and send one or both back. I too wait for sales. Unfortunately for me, in the past that meant I just bought something I liked, but did not love. I’m hoping that behavior has changed, because I now know what’s in my closet, have a list of what I need, and know what colors I want. This year, I’m crazy about the Talbots collection, especially the eggplant. I’ve missed out on some sales of eggplant sweaters because I’m waiting for another shipment to see if the color is what I’m looking for (a very deep tone like JJill’s fig of last year). However, I’ve been waiting almost a month to receive an eggplant jacket, and still don’t have it (not the fault of Talbots, as it’s somewhere out there). My Christmas shopping will indeed have to be early this year!

  4. I am like you…in so many ways knowing my colors has made shopping so much easier. If I don’t see my colors, then I am willing to wait. I hope your feet are recovering well and that the surgery is worth it! Thanks Linda!

  5. Keep watching for your jacket. Many times a size will re-appear later on. You might also check with local retail stores, sometimes they can find your size or their or another store.

  6. I fortunately don’t have to change colors, but there are a few I want to add and I’m waiting for sales on those particular things. One of my challenges for the upcoming l-o-n-g winter season was finding attractive choices in flattering colors for my dog days. We’re outside and hiking a lot so I need clothes that can take some abuse, but I want to look nice. I found everything (on sale) in the new Lands End catalog. Like others, I do wait for sales and rarely pay full price, unless I find an amazing treasure and choose not to take a chance on availability.

  7. I just sent Lands End jackets to grandchildren. They are great for your outdoor wardrobe! I do have a Lands End link at the top of the blog under shopping links! Thanks Karen!

  8. I’m glad to have the reminder about your Lands’End link, as I shop them exclusively for swimwear. They also have really cozy scarves for winter, and always with their 40% off catalog sales. It is a great source for my grown sons’ holiday and birthday gifts as well (lots of flannel and fleece up here in Oregon). 😉 Have a terrific weekend!

  9. I try to always add to my wardrobe when an item is on sale. A few times, I have missed out with my size not being available when sale time hits. Oh well, I most likely have plenty of clothes!

  10. Agree; never full price for anything. I am watching a Chico’s jacket that has been $199; hoping it goes on sale soon. You do a great job of mixing colors like the purple and gold!

  11. love all these looks especially the purple , could you please tell the brand and color of the shoes you are wearing have been looking for this style and color, thanks

  12. Hi Janet! This bronze ballet flat by Cole Haan has been one of my favorites for years. I originally bought them on a sale rack at Dillards..you might try the Cole Haan web page to see if they offer something similar. These have lasted a long time and been worn often!
