Weekend Perfect: Chico’s Reversible Wrap and Apple Cakes

Weekend Perfect

Happy Friday!  Today let’s discuss a weekend perfect pair…my Chico’s reversible wrap and apple cakes!

Both are yummy, warm and cozy!

CHICO’S REVERSIBLE WRAP

Weekend Perfect

Last week, I received this wonderful holiday gift from the social media team at Chico’s. (A HUGE THANK YOU!!)

I love a beautiful houndstooth wrap, but confess when I saw the black & white, I was sad since I no longer wear these colors.

But, lo and behold, I took the wrap out of the box and turned it over to see…..

Weekend perfect

The warm side of it!!  And it is gorgeous.  I love this plaid and the fact that the houndstooth now peaks out below.

Chico’s is the absolute best at reversible garments…I love them and the fact that this one offers options for cool and warm palettes is just amazing…I would love to see more of that.

So, check out the Reversible Ruana Wrap…on sale and then tell me which side is your favorite!

Also, Chico’s has featured specials every day this week.  Today you will find….$39 for basic sweaters!!

I think all of the Chico’s garments I have been watching are on sale right now…love sale time of year.

It is weekend perfect shopping!!

WEEKEND PERFECT: APPLE CAKES

Weekend Perfect

I showed you on Monday, the delicious apple muffins we drive to another little town to get…they are yummy.  Look here: ON THE ROAD AGAIN WITH LEIGH AND ME

I have been trying to re-create that muffin, but I will say that I came up with a yummy way to make 8 mini-bundt cakes…which are wonderful little gifts this time of year.

You can also use this recipe for one large bundt cake or for 3 loaves…it is a good one.

APPLE CAKES

You will need:

4 cups of peeled and chopped apples ( I like Honeycrisp the best)

2 cups of sugar

3 cups of all- purpose flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons of soda

1 cup of vegetable oil ( I actually like Wesson best)

1 teaspoon of vanilla

2 eggs

1 cup chopped walnuts ( I roast them in the oven and then chop to enhance the flavor)

Let’s do this stir by hand recipe:

  1. Stir the apples and sugar together and set aside to stand for 1 hour.  Stir it every 10-15 minutes.
  2.  Mix the dry ingredients in a separate bowl with a whisk
  3. Then stir all of the ingredients together any way you like. Mix well and place in your pans
  4. I cook it at 350…and it takes about 30 minutes for the mini cakes…about 1 hour and 15 minutes for the large one.

While they are warm, cover with caramel ice cream sauce…it really adds to the flavor.  Liked a baked caramel apple!

Then steep a mug of hot Christmas tea and settle down for some cozy weekend perfect yumminess!

You can also listen at that time to Susan Blakey and I discuss how Golden Spring and Autumn palettes prepare for the winter season.  It is always fun to discuss wearing color with Susan. COLOR DISCUSSION HERE.

Supplies you might need for the weekend:

Now, I am curious!  How many of you would be interested to see more toppers offered in reversible designs for different color palettes.  I think it is a great idea, but I may be in the minority.  Please share and thank you to those who read and join in!

This holiday season is going way to fast for me, but I will keep a great attitude about it and join all of you as we…..

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. I certainly do like your reversible ruana, having seen it on the Chico’s website earlier. As a winter, I prefer the black and white houndstooth pattern, but the other side is certainly wearable by us winters. I have a Chico’s ruana from several years ago that is black on one side and animal print on the other so I wear the black side out with the front edges of animal print folded back to be seen. I’m excited to try your apple cake because I love anything apple. Warm cake with that delicious smell is heavenly. Now I’m looking at those mini-Bundt pans…so cute and they make any food gift so much easier.

  2. Happy Friday, Celia. I think the mini-Bundt cakes are more festive looking than a cupcake! I am glad to have the pans!

  3. Have you ever heard of or tried Whittard Tea? It is an English tea we found on our last trip to London. It’s a bit pricey to have it delivered “over the pond” but wow! It is great tea. Try the Piccadilly Blend (hot or iced).

  4. I don’t wear wraps, kimonos or ruanas (I like them on others, but I can’t stand the constant adjustment I do when I wear them, an indication, I think, that I don’t feel like “me” in them). But I do like a piece that incorporates just a touch of black with warmer colors, because they go nicely with the black bottom pieces I’ve kept. One of my most worn pieces this fall is a Chicos print sweater that has black, chocolate, cream, gold and orange in it. Pam, I watched the color talk with Susan. Like you, I’m looking for that “new black” in terms of function in my wardrobe. Is it possible, do you think, that there is no such thing? That we will wear two or three neutrals as that base that black used to be? That seems to be what Susan has done (navy, beige).

  5. Hi Linda, I do think I have found it in brown and navy. What is exciting to me now is to have so many options for my go-to neutrals. It is more fun than always reaching for black!

  6. The reversible wrap is so nice, I’d probably be using that in the house to stay cozy! I’d be able to wear it both ways, but really like black and white houndstooth. I do like that very ornate teapot from Amazon, and will be looking for herbal Christmas teas while I’m out today. It’s nice to have a supply on hand when friends drop over!

  7. I like both sides of the reversible wrap. I would likely wear the houndstooth side more, as I look best in those colors. I am a tea drinker, so I loved seeing the teapots . I especially liked the poinsettia kettle, so festive. The apple cakes sound delicious. You can’t go wrong with caramel & apples.

  8. I don’t wear wraps, i’m too short. If I did I like the plaid and houndstooth combination.
I am going to try the apple cake recipe. We like moist cake, and I like the mini Bundt pans. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
