Stripes for Casual Fun

Stripes for Casual Fun

Happy Valentine’s Day, luvs!  Thank you for being here.  Let’s discuss how stripes work for casual fun!

Many of you know that before I came home to blog full time that I wasn’t much of a wearer of stripes.

But since changing my style to more casual chic from professional classic, I have become a big fan of wearing stripes.

Especially for me with style adjectives that communicate joy and creativity…stripes are definitely casual fun.

HOW STRIPES ARE CASUAL FUN FOR ME

Stripes for Casual Fun

I currently have more striped garments in my wardrobe than ever before.

My previous striped garments where…French Style…more black & white stripes.  But, after I learned I am not a cool woman but a warm one, I needed stripes in different colors.

This was an early purchase last spring in a LOFT clearance sale.  I think it is fun and has cute sleeve details.

I like to mix it with scarves of different prints, but make sure somehow, it all goes…that is favorite take on my casual fun.

I usually avoid horizontal stripes, but have learned that it is more about the fit of the garment.  They can be flattering with the right fit.

This is another sale purchase from LOFT last year…it is a perfect cream and khaki.  I can easily dress it up or down.

Again, with this bandana, I can mix stripes with pattern in the sale color family and it works.

Another LOFT top…in red and a orangey red color.

Last year, I experienced some difficulty finding the colors of striped tops I was looking for.

But, this year….2022 Fashion is a Stripe Explosion!  I have seen so many different colors of stripes so far…and expect there will be more.

Look at some of these currently on the market:

MORE CASUAL FUN

Stripes are Casual Fun

There are many ways to add fun to your casual style.  I just recently added a few shoe clips to my accessories.

They are such a fun way to bump up our casual shoes…who says rhinestones have to be on heels or only worn to weddings?

These are part of a Shoe Clip Set that I got on Amazon.  I showed you how they look on two different pair of flats.

There are more on Amazon, and a few fun ones here….

My Foundational Five Style Adjectives are joyful, approachable, creative, polished and current….that is why I look for ways to have casual fun in my style.  Stripes are current…so I will continue to enjoy the trend.

Does anyone have big plans for Valentine’s Day?…please share if you do…I hope you have a lovely day any way and that throughout it you will….

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. Your stripes and scarves are so pretty…I do like how scarves bring a touch of feminine to a bolder pattern. I do like stripes. Some things in the slideshow really jumped out at me, specifically the striped Loft shirt. That is likely going to be my Valentine gift to myself today. I love to wear shirts like that over tee shirts with jeans. I so agree with the shoe bling! I have a pair of silver sequin pumps from my niece’s wedding and my favorite way to wear them now is with jeans. Love the juxtaposition of dressy with casual! Fun post!

  2. Thanks Karen! I have been impressed with each item I got from Loft. Good quality, fit, wash well and affordable! Happy Valentine’s!

  3. I’m realizing that I have very few stripes in my wardrobe, but definitely need more. You’ve given us several striped tops that I really like so I will be investigating some further. I can remember as a child, and I’m 75 now, my mother wearing clip-on accessories on her heels so I suppose they have come and gone over many years. I’m thinking my clip-on earrings might work here too to decorate shoes. You and Mr.B have a lovely Valentine’s Day.

  4. I have used clip on earrings before, Celia. They do work but seem to come off easily. I remember one rolling across a restaurant floor…it was a funny moment but a little embarrassing!

  5. The cream and khaki tee is absolutely perfect on you. It seems modern, casual and refined (not exactly your good adjectives, I know, but you may add them to yours :)). And French style (real one) includes all sort of colors for the stripes, blue and white of course, but I have a top with strawberry-eggplant stripes for instance. I love them.

  6. Love the sound of your strawberry-eggplant top, Catherine. While refined is not one of my adjectives…polished is…and that is similar. I add polished to my five which reins me in from being a little too crazy with my creative. artisan style. Thank you for sharing that in France you love all sorts of stripes…so good to know.

  7. Loved all of your striped pieces today! The ivory/khaki stripe top especially appeals but that topper in frame one I could really make use of this spring!
Hurry springtime! We’ve just had another 24 hour snow event that was forecast to be a dusting to 1 inch. Grrrrr. Plans out the window!
Love stripes as much as you do and feel as you do too- its about the fit ! Love your look!

  8. Thanks Paulette….stay warm…spring will come, it always does! Happy Valentine’s Day!

  9. I seldom wear patterns, stripes being a strong exception. I love stripes! I’ve never believed that horizontal stripes make you look large, except for the wide, high contrast rugby ones, which I don’t care for anyway. I love the thick Authentic Talbots Tees, if a particular season’s offerings feature my palette. As I’m wearing more navy as my core neutral, I find many options in stripes due to their original nautical use, and wear the tops with bandanas also. Stripes are a winner for my style adjectives of Casual, Confident, Interesting (with scarves or jewelry), Active, and Aware.

  10. Sending you warm wishes from Fort Worth for a happy Valentine’s Day, Pam! I’m a longtime member of Team Stripes, but made the same transition you did, from black/navy on white to more flattering colors. My two favorites are aqua with navy stripes from Target and one from Eileen Fisher that is heathered teal with black stripes. Opposite ends of the price spectrum, but both equally loved and worn. I’m curious about how you came up with your five style adjectives – was that from a particular “system” or you just chose five? I need to start narrowing my wardrobe focus as I prepare for my eventual retirement (hopefully in the next two years) and having a set of style words as guideposts might be helpful.

  11. Hi Lorri, first of all…My family loves Fort Worth. I have the cutest picture of my three year old grandson riding a longhorn steer at the Stockyards! I am happy to be on Team Stripes with you! About 8 years ago (I think), I created a system for me called the Foundational Five Personal Styling System. I was struggling with how to communicate my new reinvented style and how to sharpen my style to always reflect ME. So, I develop this system based on five adjectives…and it words great! Several of my readers have adopted it and follow it. I wrote recently about it in this post:https://over50feeling40.com/2022/01/style-reinvention-update-who-am-i-now.html. and I am planning something special very soon to help readers understand it more. Let me know if you have any questions right now. You can always email me at over50feeling40@gmail.com. Thanks for being here and for asking.

  12. I am a big fan of stripes. They fit my five adjectives well as they are simple & classic. Your jacket looks perfect for spring, & several items in the slide show appealed to me. I really liked the emerald & navy top because it reminds of my favorite college football team, Notre Dame, but alas, it is not available in my size.

  13. That happens to be often, Becky. I am learning not to wait to long if I like something. Glad to know though that stripes fit with your adjectives.
