Tips for Confident Style in Retirement + A Winner!

Confident Style in Retirement

Happy sliding-into-spring Friday!!  Today, we are discussing Tips for Confident Style in Retirement plus announcing a winner of our Spring Giveaway!!

I believe with everything in me that retirement and our second half of life is a critically important time for women.

We are needed now more than ever to be active in our families and communities.  To lead and participate in non-profits, to speak about key issues, and to share our wisdom and experiences with family members.

There is so much happening in the world, that we should not sit idle.

So, confident style becomes empowering in order to drive us forward and give us the confidence to not be on the sidelines.

MY CONFIDENT STYLE

Confident Style in Retirement

Though I am not fully retired, I have left the professional office life behind…and was excited to do so.

My confident style is built upon my Foundational Five adjectives: Joyful, approachable, creative, polished current.

This outfit speaks my adjectives perfectly, and my Vibrant Autumn colors as well.

When I first saw this Button-Front Mini Shirtdress in the neutral motif at Anthropologie, I was Immediately in love!

One of the reasons I am drawn to Anthropologie is that my own “Uniquely You” confident style is based on creativity, artisan, dramatic pieces.

It was worth it to me to splurge on a special piece like this….and I will wear it often to many different places.  I only do this if it checks all of my boxes.

I am styling it here with a burnt orange V-neck Universal Thread Tee from Target…I like this brand at Target for casual, soft, good fitting tee tops.

I am also wearing a vintage Chico’s necklace and have many fun necklaces I can wear with this top to mix it up.

This is ME.  I feel very confident out and about in a look like this.  I know it is not for everyone, but the point is for you to find what gives you confidence during this important time of life.

If you can smile at yourself when you leave the house, then you will be confident and comfortable to take on anything.

TIPS FOR CONFIDENT STYLE IN RETIREMENT

Confident Style in Retirement

Surprise, the tips for confident style during retirement are discussed by me in my latest video, and this one is shorter than the first.

A reader asked how to get a YouTube Account so she could subscribe to my newly active channel.

It is super easy….

  1. Go to Youtube’s home page or to the page with my video.
  2. In the top right, click Sign In.
  3. Then Click, create an account.

That’s it.  Then when you want to subscribe for a channel just push the button on the video…you will see mine clearly this time.

Please remember that I am attempting to build this channel and need subscribers and listeners to do so….sharing it is a blessing to me.

So, let’s talk retirement…..

  1. Great video and an important topic! I love this look that you’re wearing in the photos today! It seems that dresses of all lengths that button up the front make great toppers! Anthropologie has such creative things… just love going to that store for unique styles and things for home. That dress/topper is definitely a winner! And speaking of winners, congratulations to Paulette!!

  2. Thank you, Karen! I do love this dress as a topper…it’s perfect for me. The majority of time I leave Anthropologie without a purchase and it is great for my daughter, but every now and then, I score!

  3. As usual, YOU make me smile because of your uplifting attitude and lovely countenance. All of your points in the video are certainly good for us to present our best selves to the world. Those better clothes that I would save to wear for certain events I am now wearing to the grocery store or post office just to get some wear out of them or else I’ve wasted money buying them. I live in a small town where most citizens dress in very casual ways while I tend to always dress more formally when I go anywhere…not dressy-formal, but wearing my nicer clothes. I’ve had friends comment that I always look so “put together” which I so appreciate.

  4. You go, Celia! Yes, wear them now and be best dressed in your casual wear. Way to set a great example!

  5. Right? Mini shirt dresses can be awesome jackets! Thanks for being here, Kimberly!

  6. As always, Pam, you look great. I love it when someone styles a piece in a different way (dress becomes topper). It not only says they put some thought into what they are wearing and can be creative, but as one of my style words is “aware,” I like to remember to sometimes think a bit outside the box and get some extra mileage out of my wardrobe. (For some reason, your post didn’t come to my inbox today; I know you said before your tech people were making some changes, but I wanted to be sure you knew).

  7. Thanks for letting me know…changes are done…not sure why that occurred but I will look into it. Also, Thanks for joining me in being someone who thinks outside of the box!

  8. Pam, your video is fantastic! The points are spot on! We certainly do need to accentuate the positive and smile. Thank you for being there for ladies everywhere!

  9. Really great video with very important points. I’ve been retired for twelve years now, & it has taken me a while to find my style & realize I could be comfortable without wearing oversized men’s shirts. Yes, that was my outfit for cleaning the house, sorry to say. I would never have thought to look at mini dresses as toppers. My mini wearing days are long gone, so I have never even paused to look. Thanks for opening my eyes.

  10. You are welcome, Becky. A great shirtdress can open all kinds of possibilities!

  11. Congratulations to Paulette! What fun! I am looking forward to your new video this weekend. Thanks for such generous sharing.

  12. I only use shirts as lightweight jacket toppers in my closet, since they’re too stiff for me to wear as a top. Just wish I could find more with collarless or imperial collar/ mandarin necklines, instead of the traditional western dress shirt collar (nothing wrong with them, but they again fight my natural lines).

I know this isn’t a popular approach, since some people worry that dressing to honour their curves might make them seem ‘bigger’ or ‘older’, but I’ve often found the opposite to be true – by wearing softer fabrics that harmonise with my body (instead of fighting it) I usually get more compliments, lol!

PS – Congrats, Paulette! You lucky duck 🙂

  13. Thanks for the blog and video on dressing for retirement. I can use all the help I can get in making this transition! I’ve held onto most of my work clothes since retiring just a few weeks before the pandemic started; we’ll see what I wear now that the possibility of travel is picking up and we are able to get out and about more! I’m still struggling picking my style adjectives, so any advice on the actual process to figure out what they are would be helpful.

Congratulations to Paulette! It was nice to see a long time reader win!

  14. Hi Barb, I will write more on the adjectives tomorrow and see if that will help you.

  15. Barb, so sorry that I did not get to the adjectives when I said I would…my editorial calendar suddenly filled. I am going to write about it for you and will let you know. I want to make sure I give you some new thoughts.

  16. No worries Pam! I will look forward to the ideas you share whenever the time seems right for you. 🙂 Thanks!
