Weekend Notes: Marshalls, salmon and hair

Weekend Notes

Happy Monday, everyone!  Today I have some weekend notes about a return shopping trip to Marshall’s, how I am adding more salmon to our diet and my hair care.

What a fun week this is….St. Patrick’s Day, the official beginning of the Spring Season, and more smiles and silver linings surround us.  So, let’s begin with weekend notes!

WEEKEND NOTES: A RETURN TO MARSHALLS

Weekend Notes

My weekend notes must begin with the first picture of what I wore to go shopping at Marshalls

All of the pieces have been in my wardrobe for a while: Christopher & Banks Linen jacket; JJILL red knit top; Soft Surroundings Metro Leggings; and an artisan necklace.

I have been ready to return to Marshalls ever since this first spring shopping trip in SHOPPING SPRING AT MARSHALLS.

The combination of the red tank with the olive green pleases me so much, that I believe that is why I reached for this first rain jacket by d.e.t.a.i.l.s, inc..

If this was not a rain jacket, I would have loved to wear it….but, alas, we do not have that much rain!

Weekend Notes

Jone of New York is the brand for this lovely navy print top.  I liked it, but not enough to add it to the mix.

I am keeping an eye out for interesting, creative navy prints…to fit my style adjectives!

Weekend Notes

This gold top by Tahari is lovely and I so wish it was a better fit on me.  With a little more space in the hips, I might have brought this one home.

My Vibrant Autumn palette needs off -white and golds for layering pieces instead of stark white.

Weekend Notes

Speaking of autumn palette, it is nice to see colors like this top for warmer weather.

I am so sorry that I took it off and forgot to take a photo.

Sometimes we look in the mirror and see that a garment is just not us…but not really know why.  That was the case with this top…though it is lovely.

I felt like it was too billowy.  I will continue to look for my colors in warmer weather months…it will not take me off my game to look Uniquely Me!

Weekend Notes

I liked the shackets I wore this past fall/winter, so I have tried on a couple of button-downs going for that look.

This is a fun vintage wash, but just looked like an old shirt over a nice top.  So I said NO.

I know many of you like to know the reasons I walk away or even buy certain items.

Weekend Notes

Weekend notes

I did not find anything in clothing that day but noted in my weekend notes are the interesting finds at Marshall’s.

There is always something unique to see there.  Leigh Ann said she stopped by another Marshall’s location last week and found the perfect pair of pants!

It is always a great place to have some fun and see what unique items are on the market.

WEEKEND NOTES: SALMON

Weekend Notes

Mr. B and I were pretty good about eating salmon at least once a week for the nutritional value.

However, I am trying to increase our intake to 2-3 times a week…for the nutritional value.

That means I need to cook more and be creative.

The baked salmon from this weekend was super easy….brushed it with olive oil;  squeezed 1/2 lemon over each piece; sprinkled with garlic salt and one minced garlic on each; laid on top chopped onion and yellow bell peppers.

Then sprinkled Italian seasoning across the top and baked for 25 minutes until flaky at 450.

Weekend Notes

The butternut squash dish in the front is also super easy.

In a bowl, I placed the cubed squash and even threw in some zucchini and yellow squash slices.

Added one chopped yellow onion.

Sprinkled two teaspoons of Kashmir Garam Masala.   This Indian spice is aromatic, rich and flavorful.

Stirred it together and bake at 450 for 45 minutes.

The other veggie mix was a variety of roasted veggies with broccoli as the star!

WEEKEND NOTES: HAIR

Weekend Notes

A couple of ladies have asked that I explain how I get my hair to look this way…so once again, here is the process.

My hair naturally does this…for now, no flat irons, curling irons or hair dryers.

However, I use several top quality products to ensure it will not frizz in the humidity and will stay this way for several days.

I understand these products are pricey, however, when you only wash once a week, they last a long time.

I wash it with GK Hair Global Keratin Moisturizing Shampoo and follow that in the shower with GK Hair Global Keratin Deep Conditioner Masque.

Once out of the shower, I towel it off and then spray it with KERASTASE Elixir (smells so good!); and work in with my fingers REDKEN FRIZZ DISMISS.

My hairbrush sits idle wondering what happened to me…I only use my fingers now…no hairbrush.

In between shampoos, I will wet it down, add the Redken Frizz Dismiss, and for pictures top off with a little Kerastase Oil Spray….so it looks shiny!

Finally, I do go for a color touch up and trim once a month….my hair grows pretty fast.

I hope that helps those who were seeking the information…it has been a huge change for me and honestly one I did not think I would do…but so much easier to embrace the curls for now.

Those are the WEEKEND NOTES, ladies….thank you for joining with me today…I will have a fun little giveaway for you tomorrow, so make sure you stop by…and always….

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. That top that you said just wasn’t you, I looked at that and knew that would have come home with me! As you know, I am a classic dresser through and through, but I have this bohemian side that doesn’t fit any of my dominant adjectives, yet when I see something like this, I can’t resist! I love the colors too. I can see that with dark slim fitting jeans… Marshall’s is always a treasure hunt!! You mentioned the Metro leggings you wore, and I just have to say, I love Soft Surroundings pants. Their Superla Stretch pants fit so beautifully too, and their jeans… just love them! I do appreciate your details on your hair. I have the frizz thing going on too, and really prefer letting my hair dry naturally when it gets warm out. Mine is wavy but I’d like to have your curls! I’m making a note of the products and don’t mind paying more because they do last a long time. I try to wash my hair no more than two times a week and just wet it in between like you do, so products last, I’ve found. It’s kind of a luxury to not have to fuss with it when the temperature climbs!

  2. I do like the time I save not messing with it much. The products are excellent…thanks for being here, Karen!

  3. I’m also trying to include more salmon in our diet too. Just last night I downloaded two salmon recipes from Ina Garten for salmon which I plan to try. I never could get your items from Blair to open on my iPad yesterday. I tried several times during the day, and could never get a connection although otherwise, my WiFi seemed to be okay. This morning everything seems to work fine.

  4. I have the red tank from JJill. I wear it with one of their wearever cardigans in beige. I never thought of green. I’ll have to try it. I have trouble finding things at Marshall’s or TJMaxx. My daughter loves Nordstrom Rack but it overwhelms me

  5. The anorak style jacket is just what I would grab, I like the waist definition that you can adjust to the right spot. Is that gold top available to order in the next size up? It is such a nice glow around your face. The hair, that is so lovely when you let it do it’s thing, and the curls are gorgeous. Our weather is starting to warm above freezing in the daytime this week, so I am feeling the urge to check out some spring looks.

  6. The only link in the Blair post is Pams Page..,all of the items are on that page. Let me know if that link works. The items for Blair are not individually linked except for Pams Page!

  7. My favorite area at Nordstrom Rack is Shoes! I mostly stick there. It helps me to go to Marshalls right when they open….less people!

  8. You really have the prettiest hair Pam! So lustrous!
As for salmon- yes! We too eat it 2-3 times/ week and face fir a very long time trying to always make it “wild caught” if possible.
Coincidentally I just left our Marshall’s with sone stretchy work- out clothes and a cute outfit for my three year old grand daughter, Baylee (Bay). Nothing for her twin brother Ben however? Next stop!

  9. I like Marshalls for the “fun” element in my wardrobe … the summer tank dresses, printed tops, cover ups. Summer clothing just doesn’t last as long as winter clothing, so I don’t like to spend as much. I too am looking for some navy prints. I no longer use a blow dryer, instead letting my hair fall into beachy waves. I’ve had to up my product game too … mostly Kenra Sugar Beach products, and Miracle It’s a 10 leave in conditioner with keratin, which leaves my hair -incredibly- shiny. With the Miracle, I only need the tiniest amount. The products, while pricey, last a long time (a couple of years with a tiny bottle of conditioner!), as you wisely pointed out. I would add that with a totally natural style, it’s important to take that next step with grooming – better products, more regular trims, so that I don’t ever veer into sloppy, or the appearance of having let myself go.

  10. I am loving your hair!
My hair is very similar and I have great products too. But it seems I can’t get a consistent cut, so always a hair fight after a cut. 🥴
Does the person who cuts yours, cut choppy layers or blended layers? Or is there a more specific cut used?
Thank you for your smile. 🤗

  11. I am new here and enjoy your blog. Can you give examples of what makes you a vibrant autumn as different from a soft and or medium autumn. Thanks

  12. Hi Vee! So happy to have you join us here! I confirmed with one expert I know, Susan Blakey. Annie Castano may have more to add later. Vibrant autumns are the brightest, deepest, most saturated versions of the autumn palette. Annie is the talented stylist/specialist who pegged me to be a vibrant autumn, so if she has more to add. I will let you know!

  13. Hi Robin! I don’t really know the answer…but Weds is hair day, so I will ask. I will report back on Thursday.

  14. Here in the Pacific Northwest we have lots of salmon — and lots of great recipes for it. Here’s one that’s a little different:
    Ginger Sesame Salmon
Ingredients: 4 sheets of foil, 4 salmon fillets (4 – 6 oz. each), 4 thin onion slices (I love red onion for this,
2 medium carrots, cut into julienne strips, 2 teaspoons ground ginger, 2 tablespoons rice vinegar, 1 teaspoon sesame oil.
Directions: preheat over to 450 or preheat grill. Place 1/4 of onion and carrot on each sheet of foil. Top with one fillet. Sprinkle with ginger, drizzle with vinegar and oil. Bring up sides of foil and fold, leaving room inside for heat circulation. Bake 16 – 20 minutes on cookie sheet in over OR grill 14 – 18 minutes on a covered grill. Delish!

  15. Thanks Heidi! I am going to do this! I do appreciate your time to share the whole recipe!

  16. Hi Robin, I just returned from the stylist. She says that she does choppy layers on me because my hair is so curly. There you have it…now I learned something.

  17. Thank you so much for letting me know. 🤗
I’m getting a trim this next week. 😉
