7 tips to look slimmer

Happy April 1!!  Thank you for joining me to today to discuss 7 tips to look slimmer than you are!

I think this is an appropriate topic for April Fool’s Day, because these tips to look slimmer are a type of trick…tricking the eye to see something else.

It is all about how you direct the Eye of the Beholder….

7 TIPS TO LOOK SLIMMER THAN YOU ARE VIDEO

This is actually a new video on my Youtube Channel out now…and I go over a thorough discussion of the seven tips to look slimmer.

In fact, I was surrounded by notes and still left out a few thoughts….the majority are on the video.

I am wearing white pants today and feel very slim wearing them…in the video I explain why.

I did not say, but wanted to, that these are simply tips…not rules…and I do not adhere to them all every time I dress.

For example, I live in a warm climate, so I do wear capris pants and crops…though I know chopping my body into pieces is not a slimming technique.

Also, be careful of the denim you purchase.  If there is extra shading on your thighs, that will add the illusion of extra weight.

The most slimming stripes are diagonal stripes…try some on…it will amaze you.

And one of the best ways to look slimmer…is practicing good posture.  Sit up and walk straighter…no matter your height.

A style that actually can make us look like we have added weight and poor posture, are the garments with dropped shoulders.

Be careful of those…the best fit is when the garment fits at your shoulder.

I disagree with some ladies that belts are slimming.  For some of us, a belt draws the eye immediately to where we do not want the emphasis so I do not currently wear them.

There is so much in the video, so sit down with you have a little extra time to watch and maybe jot some notes.  I hope it is helpful.

I am one of the few online who have lived and practiced these tips for many years.

7 tips to look slimmer

These lovely flowers are in my yard at the moment and they are…simply wonderful.

But, alas, they are only here for a very short time.

I call attention to this just to remind you not to rush through the season.

As you see your flowers begin to bloom, take a little time to rest and enjoy them.

I want to remember their beauty and not think…wow, I missed it.

Think of where you could spend a moment to stop and wonder this weekend.

I hope you enjoy the video…and I will see you tomorrow for WOULD YOU WEAR IT?  Please leave any comments on the topic of how to dress to look slimmer!

  1. Hi Pamela! Thanks for the tips. I just love the green topper and green and coral top you are wearing with the white pants. Do you have links for those? Have a lovely day, Mary

  2. Thanks Mary! The green topper is over 30 years old and was one of the first garments I purchased at Chico’s. The green top was a Goodwill find and I love it! Sorry I don’t have links to these but hopefully the look could inspire something similar!

  3. I am going to watch the video right now, but what you wrote here is also important and I’m definitely going to be taking notes. I’ll be referring back to this post after watching the video. I really do enjoy your videos Pam!

  4. I just watched your video, and realized that I need to be on the lookout for diagonal stripes, pockets, seaming. I love the turquoise and white diagonally striped shirt in the slideshow, but unfortunately it is sold out, so I’m now on the lookout for diagonals. I often wear columns of color but have not ventured past columns of black, navy, or white. I also need to be aware of rounded shirt tails instead of squared hems. Your flowers in your yard are so beautiful. I’m especially drawn to the purple ones which are similar to our Southern wisteria, but I know it’s not that. Your plants must provide such a peaceful, calming respite daily.

  5. Hi Celia, The purple flowers are Mountain Laurel….and this year they are amazing…best year in awhile.

  6. Another wonderful and informative video Pam. I totally agree about the addition for the suggestion that dropped shoulders are not a good look. There are so many out there and they are just awful on me. Love the shots of the spring blooms as the snow is drifting past my windows today. There is hope yet. The suggestion to check out the smaller sizes in some items is why I really need to try things on before purchasing so online and myself do not get along well. Love the blouse you are wearing.

  7. Wonderful tips today! I was just looking at shapers, left that page to think for a while, and found your video. Nice to get your tips and also to be reminded that others have the same problems.

  8. I hope they helped E….I do wear a shaper occasionally, but my goal is to get away from them…they are so hot and uncomfortable in the climate where I live…it doesn’t matter the brand. The one I wear the most is a Spanx shaper. Thanks for commenting!

  9. The one and only time I’ve worn a shaper was to my son’s wedding, and I came close to taking it off! (Not in public haha). I think I’ve tried every trick out there to look slimmer over the years. Now I think about it some, but I concentrate more on dressing my body to express myself, to be comfortable, to be able to move and enjoy whatever little adventure life throws my way. I know these goals are not mutually exclusive, it’s just more where my focus is these days. I always chuckle at the belt and half tuck advice to define the waist. I’ve tried, and it looks awful on me. Everything you said is completely right. Since most people want to look thinner, it would seem more manufacturers would do diagonal hems and stripes.

  10. I agree…why do they not pay closer attention! Our focus should always be to be confident and joyful! The half tuck didn’t look good on me either…thanks for mentioning it!

  11. Thanks for the great video. I agree that one of the best slimming techniques is column dressing where your pants and top are the same colour topped with a complimentary sweater or kimono. I think a lot of women forget about the importance of wearing a good bra. I always enjoy your videos so keep them coming. I noticed that your voice echoed in this today’s video.

  12. Thanks Judy…did not notice an echo, but I will ask my team about it. We are filming my a room in my house that has a very high ceiling…may need to add a microphone. Thanks!

  13. You look amazingly slender in todays outfit with the great green jacket and white pants!
And your this really remind me of when I was a bit heavier and found the right foundation pieces really did help! Immensely!
Since celiac disease I’ve lost nearly 18 pounds. But that’s not what anyone wants!
    Love your blog!

  14. Hi Pamela, I really enjoyed today’s video- the tip about accepting ourselves as we are right now is the one I needed most! I’ve also really enjoyed your other videos, as I retired a couple years ago too. I’m now using your tips to filter my wardrobe selections through my colors (Winter- I can still wear black, hooray) and the polished casual look I want to convey when I do leave the house. You have inspired me to add more color, I’ll be working on it! Thanks for all the inspiration. 🙂

  15. You look great, Paulette and I hope you have it under control now! Thanks for sending the picture and for being here.

  16. Great topic! I just watched your video and found all 7 tips for Dressing Slimmer to be very helpful. Things to be aware of as we shop and dress each day. Like you, it would be hard to give up capris for summer. Loving your YouTube videos. As I am a little hard of hearing, I need to turn the captioning on. Maybe if you use a microphone as noted above in your reply to Judy, it will help some of us over 50 gals. Or maybe it’s my old desktop computer that I’m using. Enjoy those great flowers in your yard, and have a joyful weekend!

  17. Really good tips! For years, plus size tops were all oversized & unflattering. Fit is the most important feature of any garment, so dressing the body you have is indeed #1. I appreciate the reminder to enjoy nature’s changes. Spring is one season where something changes every day. I try to take notice of these changes as I run my errands. We are seeing daffodils, crocus & forsythia right now, & the trees are just starting to bud.

  18. You are so right about spring, Becky…something does change every single day!

  19. Love the beautiful green jacket and shirt. Thanks for the tips. I am trying to look slimmer for Easter as it is harder to lose weight now than when I was you younger.

  20. So true! Practice the tips…they are magic! I want to look my best at Easter too!

  21. Hi Pamela,
Just found your very informative and refreshing blog. Thank you for your tips. I quite like your latest outfit – definitely something I would wear ( and that olive green is one of my favourite colours). I shall be stopping by again soon. Thank you.
