Beware: Crime can happen to you…it did to me

Crime Can Happen to anyone, any where

Well, I praise God today for His protection.  This is not the post I intended for this day, but I want to remind you to BEWARE…crime can happen to you…it did to me.

Yesterday morning, just after 7AM, I left the house to walk our dog.

Down our street I noticed a man, but did not think anything of it.  For the most part, I have always felt safe in our area of town.

But, when you watch the news and they say crime is rising…take heed…it can happen to you.

When I circled back toward home with our dog, I saw the man again across the street in our neighbor’s yard.  I asked nicely if he needed help.

He said no.

Then as I entered my home, this happened…..

The picture above are his muddy feet on the floor of my house after he charged in after me.

This man had also attempted to kick down a door in a close by neighborhood before he charged at me.

I am thankful for so many things…that Mr. B was home…that our wonderful San Antonio Police were immediately on it and have such a caring attitude.

But, ladies…if this happens in my neighborhood…it can happen to anyone…so be alert and do what you need to do to take care of yourself.

Crime is on the rise…it is real and we need to heed the warnings.

Do not assume it cannot happen to you….I never thought this…a daytime home invasion….would happen to me.

I am fine…still a little rattled.  But will choose to always…..

KEEP SMILING!!

UPDATE!  I want to let you know how important RING and NEXTDOOR were in the capture of this man this morning (Friday 5/6)….because I put my RING video on Nextdoor, a resident who was on a morning walk in a park near us, saw the man and quickly contacted the police…he was captured.  I have been so impressed with SAPD!!

By Pamela Lutrell

I will be here tomorrow with Jennifer for Would You Wear It….and keep on keeping on!

UPDATE:  I was contacted and appeared on a local newscast last night:

  1. Pam,

I am glad that you were not hurt and that your husband was home. Did your dog bark at the perp? My dog, a long-haired Chihuahua, would snarl and bark at anyone coming close to me. I carry pepper spray when out with the dog and occasionally a walking stick for protection.

  2. Oh my God! I am so glad you are alright! God was certainly looking after you! I was mugged several years ago and physically hurt. I know how shaken I was for weeks! You are in my prayers!

  3. Oh Pam, that’s just terrifying. I’m so relieved that you weren’t hurt in any physical way, that your husband was also there and the police responded quickly. Just so frightening. I can tell by your photos that you live in a very nice neighborhood, and I can’t imagine how that person thought he could get away with this is broad daylight. This is definitely a wakeup for all of us. I know that it is for me. Thank God for His protection!! Thank you for the reminder to always be alert.

  4. I will be taking precautions from now on. I got tangled in the leash for our poor dog…I think he was literally wrapped up in me.

  5. That is the reason I posted it, Karen. It is a wakeup call…I never ever thought this would happen to me in my neighborhood and in my home. It is scary.

  6. Oh, Pam, how very frightening for you and Mr. B! I’m so very thankful that you were not harmed! Those of us who grew up in a time when we did not even lock doors at night struggle with remembering to lock up every time we return to our house, but that is sadly what we should do. My Mr. B is usually here with me, but nevertheless, we keep our doors locked day and night. I’m sure you felt relieved when your police came quickly, but are bound to continue to feel jittery. I pray that no one else in your neighborhood was harmed, and that you will feel safe to walk again soon. We all think we are safe…until we aren’t, and sadly, this is life everywhere today.

  7. Pam. I am so sorry this happened! How horrible! I’m sure we all will be a bit more diligent after reading your story. Our town has had an uptick in home break-ins but from reports it’s when no one is home (also daytime). Yes, fortunate that Mr B was at home with you. Prayers🙏🏻

  8. This guy was very brazen…broad daylight…morning hours….very aggressive. Be safe!

  9. What a horrible story! I’m so glad you are alright and Mr. B was home! My thoughts are with you, and yes, we all need to remain vigilant.

  10. You are so right, Celia. This is a neighborhood where we have been relaxed and look out for one another…but now will be vigilant….in taking proper precautions. It is everywhere and that is why I am sharing it.

  11. Oh, my goodness! How scary! I am so glad it turned out okay for you. Gosh, that guy was looking for an easy target. We are in a nice neighborhood, but the interstate is close by, so this kind of thing crosses my mind. Thank the good Lord you are safe!

  12. Pam, it makes me sick to think you had to endure this horror. Praise God that you and your husband were not hurt. Thank you for posting this as a reminder to all of us. We get so comfortable in our familiar surroundings. I’m praying that you can relax today and heal from this scary experience. Much love to you.

  13. Pam, thank God your husband was home. This is such a reminder that we are living in desperate times and should always be on the alert. I can’t believe that he had no compunction to follow you in, dog and all, without giving thought as to whether your Mr B was home or not. He had a weapon. I thought that you were going to show us that he might have hit you with whatever it was that he was carrying. You must be shaken to the core. I feel shaken just watching you , so vulnerable. Please have a long healing weekend.

  14. Hi Pam,
I was shocked when I saw you in the news last night sharing this horrible story. I think your screams did the trick. You are absolutely right to say that we need to be extremely vigilant no matter where we live. Our humanity wants to help people but you never know what they have in mind. It is such a shame that we have come to this.
I am so happy that nothing happened to you.

  15. Your ring door bell video was so scary to watch. I felt like I was there with you. Sending prayers to you. Glad you are alright and that your husband was there with you.

  16. OhPam! I’m horrified this happened to you and thankful your husband was home!!! This really scares me as I walk frequently and I live alone! Yikes! Have to be aware and go to a neighbors house instead of my own. Screaming!

  17. Oh my goodness, how absolutely frightening. I am so glad you are okay but now I’m sure it will take a bit of time to get this behind you. You were definitely blessed your husband was home and son is a police officer. It is true I never think of this happening in my neighborhood but it certainly can. Thank you for making us all aware of this.

  18. Thank you, Sharon. It is so sad we have come to this level of lawlessness in our country!

  19. Thank you Deborah…he was spotted this morning nearby and the police are out looking for him again right now!

  20. I do not have a police officer son…sorry if that was confusing

  21. Oh Pam I’m sorry sorry that this happened and I’m thankful that you and Mr B are ok. You said the police were very helpful but you didn’t say if they caught him. I certainly hope that he spends along time in jail.

  22. They are looking for him again this morning. He was spotted nearby by an early morning walker.

  23. Oh Pamela, I am so glad you were not physicaly hurt. The stress and mental anguish is something that will stay with you and pop up from time to time. Be kind to yourself for the next while. I am relieved to hear that Mr. B. was there to hear you. Thank you for the reminder that this can happen anywhere and we must be vigilant in our day to day outings. Stay well.

  24. I’m so sorry you had to experience this! It’s sad we have to be extremely cautious nowadays especially because we’re older and more vulnerable. Prayers and healing thoughts being sent to you.

  25. OMG Pamela, so happy you’re okay! Good thing your husband was home, it scared him away! We never do think these things will happen, but must always be aware of our surroundings!
Wonderful you shared this, lesson learned.

  26. Oh, Pam! How truly unsettling to watch your video. I am so glad that you are okay. It’s terrifying that this man was so bold in bright daylight.

Many thanks for sharing your story. It’s an excellent reminder that we must, unfortunately, be vigilant at all times.

    Sending you a big hug!

  27. Dear Pam,
I’m. so glad you’re alright and that your husband was home. Keeping you in my prayers. My husband installed outdoor cameras all around our house for this reason.

  28. Oh, Pam, I am so sorry that this happened to you. You are in my prayers. Be safe and thanks for sharing your story so that others can be more aware.

  29. How scary that he’s still out there. Prayers that he is caught soon before someone gets hurt.

  30. Maybe time to walk in pairs again. In our usually safe neighborhood, in our rather small town, we have more homeless and wandering people out and about, and the subsequent rise in petty crimes. Your situation became much more than that! So grateful you are alright and putting the word out for everyone to be extra careful.

  31. Oh – that is so terrifying! So happy you had someone at home and that he ran away. Praying for you to have peace after this terrible experience. And yes, thanks for the warning. You cannot be too careful!

  32. Praise God, indeed. I’m so glad you are ok. You have encouraged me to purchase many things in the past but today I’m getting a Ring camera.

  33. Pamela, you’re emotionally strong to be where you are right now. Being vigilant doesn’t mean living in fear. You’ve raised awareness. Healing vibes your way.

  34. Oh my goodness! I am so glad you and Mr. B weren’t physically hurt and so sorry you had to go through this. It is such a shame that this type of incident happens in this world today. Sending prayers for comfort and safety.

  35. Such a horrible thing to happen to you. Thank goodness your husband was home! Hugs to you & your husband. ❤️

  36. Such a horrible thing to happen to you. Thank goodness your husband was home! Hugs to you & your husband. ❤️

  37. Thank you for posting this as we tend to be very comfortable in our neighborhoods and let our guard down. This is very scary and I thank God you were not hurt, other than being very frightened. I needed this wake up call.

  38. Pamela, Praise the Lord for your protection!!! I’m so glad your all safe!!! I’m sure your rattled!! Check with your state if it’s allowed but you may want to carry bear mace!!! It’s better than regular mace and will take down the largest, most aggressive male!!!

  39. Could we talk precautions? I carry pepper spray in my pocket when I walk, but can see what happened to you happened fast and from behind. I don’t think I could have sprayed him. Once while traveling in Spain four young men tried to snatch my purse in a dark street. I had my playground whistle around my neck. I blew it and they ran off. I don’t want to carry a firearm. I think I could be overpowered and the gun could be taken from me and used against me.
I’m going to add my whistle to my repertoire today, but what else do you ladies suggest?

  40. Pam, how awful for you!!! Just the idea that someone was waiting and targeted you as you returned home is so scary. I am so happy to hear that you are safe. I used to carry a ‘police’ whistle with me when I lived in Chicago but haven’t done so for years. Really pathetic that he’s out on bail already. You –and Mr. B. — are in our thoughts and prayers.

  41. One more thought –
I am on the safety committee at my workplace. I’m sharing this video with my co-workers as a reminder to always be alert.

  42. Pam, I am so sorry this happened. Thank you for making us all aware to be mindful at all times in our surroundings. Thankful that you are OK.

  43. Oh, Pam! How terrifying for you! I’m so glad that you’re all right. I know that with drugs and mental illness running rampant nowadays these horrible incidents and worse are happening in all neighborhoods, even beautiful ones like yours. Thank you for reminding us to be vigilant and stay safe.

  44. Dear Pam, I’m so glad that you are safe and we’re not hurt. God answers prayers. Crime is everywhere and we must be vigilant. I liked the idea of one of your readers mentioning walking in pairs.
Be well and stay safe. ❤️🙏❤️

  45. Oh, how very scary for you. You are my friend (virtually) and I felt terror when I watched your video. Even though you gave us information before the video, that was when my blood drained. I’m so thankful you are okay. Still, your experience diminishes trust (yours and ours) and makes one feel vulnerable. I think of those of us who react more slowly, and all the what-ifs in an attack like yours. You probably want to put this experience behind you, but I thank you for sharing it – and the video speaks louder than words. That really got me. God was with you.

  46. Oh Pam. Even though I knew you were safe, the video was still hard to watch. So very grateful you and your husband were not harmed.

  47. I truly want to open eyes and bring awareness so we will all be safe.

  48. I am so proud of you! You immediately began screaming. That is wonderful. So many people freeze in fear, or are in shock or don’t want to be rude. Good for you! Screaming is a way of defense if you don’t have both hands ready to fight or even the nerve to raise your hand. BRAVO! I am down Sough in Mont Belvieu, I will keep safe.

  49. Pam, I am so sorry that this happened to you. I am glad that you & Mr. B weren’t physically hurt, but the mental & emotional pain will be with you for a while. Thanking God for his protection & prayers for comfort & strength. Violence is increasing everywhere, even in the rural community where I grew up. Thank you for sharing your experience & reminding us to be ever vigilant.

  50. Oh Pam, I’m so sorry you experienced this and glad you are OK. Thank you for sharing your story as a reminder to us all not to take our safety for granted.

  51. Oh my! Praise God that you, Mr. B and your pup are safe. That’s not to say this will easily be forgotten, by any of you, or us. So glad you posted your Ring Video and contacted the news channel so that this horrible person was spotted this morning. How bold!! Broad daylight!! I guess he’s not afraid to keep doing horrid things like this. I like the idea someone suggested above about bear spray. Please take precautions when you are able to walk again. You were so brave! So so sorry this happened to you.

  52. Praise the Lord you are physically all right. Yes, we must be vigilant because crime is rising in communities throughout the country. Blessings to you, Pam.

  53. Thank you for sharing your frightening situation so we can become even more aware that evil can happen to anyone, anywhere. The video clip was terrifying. Our country must change to protect its citizens. So thankful you were not hurt, emotionally scared, but okay. God bless and comfort you.

  54. I was horrified to have read your post on Next Door though I did not know it was you. Then I read your blog! I thank the Lord you were protected from harm! I am also thankful that you continue to bring the latest health news, fashions, and other topics to your readers. Safety in a broken world is another major topic that we should all be aware off. Blessings to you and your family. Happy Mother’s Day Pam!

  55. So glad you are okay Pam. That was a very scary and eye-opening video. A good reminder to always stay vigilant. Thank you for sharing something so personal for our best interests.

  56. Oh no!! This is horrible! I’m so grateful that by the grace of God you were not physically injured, as that was obviously his intent.

  57. I am so happy you are okay…..and that the SAPD was able to respond and apprehend this guy. I live in Austin, where we are hundreds of police officers short because of funding and the general attitude towards the police force here. Crime is definitely getting out of control.

  58. Geeze! That is not the way to start your day.

I hope you’ll keep us up to date when they find this person.
Until then keep on doing what you did – being aware of your situation and what’s going on around you.

We’ve had our share of crime, and I can say that it will take some time before you aren’t hyper-anxious about this. You’ll never see strangers on the street again without accessing whether they’re trouble, but eventually you won’t go into a sweat over it.

  59. Thank you for sharing this and thankfully you are okay! My safe town is no longer safe. We had a similar situation next door. A Vietnam veteran held the guy until police arrived. Our neighborhood is on high alert now for crime.
