Budget Saving Tips: Consignment Shopping

Budget saving tips

Happy Tuesday, ladies and happy first day of summer, officially!

Welcome to the day when I offer some budget saving tips.

Our topic today is the benefits of Consignment Shopping!

I like consignment shopping for several reasons:

  1. I love to support small local businesses
  2. They take the time to look over the garments and choose the best. (unlike thrift, where we must take the time to examine garments carefully)
  3. Consignment is a great way to find top brands, often luxury brands and be able to try them on in a store.
  4. Sometimes building a relationship with a consignment shop manager is very beneficial as they might contact you with certain brands you are seeking.

BUDGET SAVING TIPS: CONSIGNMENT SHOPPING FINDS

I showed you these gorgeous linen pants from Chico’s before, but wanted another top to wear with them.

Lo and behold…consignment shopping provided the top!

This lovely orange top is by DKNY top was $19.  I love it with these pants and my Italian leather handbag….I originally found at Marshall’s years ago.

I went consignment shopping looking for a top for these pants, but the shell necklace was a bonus at $11…it is not white white, but creamy off-white.

I love this kind of summer look for an evening out.

This Soft Surroundings tunic is going to be a favorite all year long.  I love it and found it in a different consignment shop from where I found the DKNY top.

It has little shell decorations around it and this is one reason I love consignment.

I can afford to get the special pieces which full price may have been unobtainable….but at $10, it was mine!

When I go consignment shopping, my inner fashionista comes out!  It is more fun for me than shopping standard wardrobe building pieces.

Budget Saving Tips

Both local consignment shops I frequent, have racks just for Chico’s items.  I found this fun navy top with metallic dots.

Since it is sheer, it makes a nice summer topper and at $11 it is a steal.

Leigh Ann and I both love to stop by the luxury consignment shops to see what they have.

Because it is a great budget saving tip to add some fun to your wardrobe during inflationary times.

BUDGET SAVING TIPS AT CONSIGNMENT: WHAT I SAW

Now, I make sure to look at things carefully, because I am not there to get carried away.

These lovely Prada sneakers were in my size, but at $150 still out of my reach!!

I saw so many fun shoes and the clearance table last week, had many nice selections…just not in my size.

But, I find it is worth it to make a stop often and see what has been moved to clearance or what new items have come in.

For a special occasion, I often start here first.

These handbags made me stop and pause….but I really am fine in that department.

I love the colors in the Dooney Burke!  Would make a great autumn bag!

Now, here are some bags currently on Clearance….

Do you have favorite consignment shops in your town?  If so, tell us about them…why do you like to frequent their shop.

This is another area to consider when looking for budget saving tips.   These luxury items make not be obtainable to many of us for awhile, and if we desire to shop, it is good to think about your options.

Thanks for joining in on Budget Saving Tuesday for your tips of the week!  I will be here tomorrow with your headlines!

  1. I love resale and consignment stores! That’s a fun way to buy interesting items. I buy resale Cole Haan shoes. You’d be surprised how many pairs are new in the box for $20.
The Chico’s polka dot jacket is a winner!!!

  2. What great finds at amazing prices! It’s much easier to part with something you tire of when you got it for a song, and consignment makes that possible. I will always hang onto things I paid full price for even if they aren’t getting worn, and that’s a big waste. We have more consignment stores than thrift stores here, so they are always my first choice when shopping for a real bargain. There are several nearby that have specific racks for each individual “better” brand, including EF. It’s a treasure hunt for sure, you really have to take your time. I have sold my things at one of these places and the proprietor is so discerning that it makes me nervous standing there as she does her inspection!! This is definitely a good tip for how to save money on name brands. It takes more time shopping consignment, but turns up some treasures!

  3. Morning, Pam! 😊 Up early today, knocking off the “watch a sunrise” from the summer list while setting out our blanket for tonight’s first concert in the park this season. I love the orange top and purse on you; the linen pants are so versatile! Happy Summer! 🌼

  4. Sadly, my town does not have a consignment shop, but I do look online at Poshmark and EBay although I have yet to buy anything. As you said, you can try on items in these shops and that is my drawback from purchasing online. You have found several nice items that will get a new life in your closet. Again I’m reminded of the books my former student wrote on how much the fashion industry contributes to the accumulation of garbage on our planet.

  5. I shop consignment often, but with the exception of “nicer” accessories like Tory Burch, mine don’t have truly high end names such as Prada. Our prices are considerably higher as well … a larger Brahmin bag will sell for around $200 instead of $325, which is a huge savings but still not cheap. I do often find Talbots and Chicos there, and last fall hit a mother lode of 6 brand new JJill long sleeve tees for about $8 each. Since losing weight and transitioning to a more casual wardrobe, I’ve sold several pieces there. They will give you more for a store credit than cash. Our thrift stores here are messy and very difficult to navigate, so I appreciate consignment.

  6. I laughed, Karen…sometimes I am also nervous as they look the items over…there have been times I missed a light stain and it drives me nuts when that happens.
I don’t mind taking the time in store and I only stop by when I have the time to give.

  7. The concert in the park sounds so lovely…I wish we had cooler evenings for events like that. Enjoy, Connie.

  8. Consignment and thrift are big ways to practice sustainability. Thanks Celia.

  9. I appreciate it as well, Linda for all the reasons I mentioned in the blog. It is a great way to find special pieces from our favorite higher end brands.

  10. Love the whole orange outfit and oh that handbag……..sigh. The navy column with the poke a dot is elegant.

  11. No consignment stores in my immediate area, however do have four thrift ones that I stalk for either vintage jewelry or leather handbags. (The latter namely due to; we have a large Italian community in our area and many of the bags are Italian brands and can often be unique.) Loving the orange top as totally luscious.

  12. I love hearing about your Italian community, Brenda! How special those finds would be! Thanks for sharing…

  13. I like consignment shops. I am picky, but have had a few finds. Years ago, I found the most gorgeous black slacks that wore like iron for 15 years. My most recent find was a pair of Chanel ballet flats in all black in nearly new condition at half the price. I snapped those up as I wanted a pair and I thought this was a great way to see if I like them at a lower price point.
