How I kicked off summer

how I kicked off summer

Happy Friday, everyone!!  This is a different way to say what I wore this week, by just saying how I kicked off summer.

For all practical purposes, it is summer where I live in South Texas.

And a cool front actually allowed me to wear longer pants for a couple of days.

In the first photo, I am wearing an outfit I just put together to run to the grocery and post office.

These are all pieces which have lived in my closet for awhile.

I am so glad that I held on to all of my Eileen Fisher pants after I left professional office life…I wear them often for comfort, fit and colors.

The cost per wear is low on my pants because I do wear them often and many wear purchased on sale.

This top is a past re-sale shop purchase and it is a Ralph Lauren top…very feminine.

In warmer weather, I do toss on kimonos often and that will only increase as we get more into summer.

HOW I KICKED OFF SUMMER – OUT & ABOUT

How I kicked off summer

I did kick off summer by working which means I was out and about gathering content for this blog.

When I went to Talbot’s to check out the coastal styles, it was a cooler day.

I wore this lovely Rachel Zoe top originally from Marshall’s and my Talbot’s jeggings.

One of the reasons, you see me in the BZEES sandals so much is that they are super comfy to walk in with my funky feet.

My hammer toes love summer weather…they love to be free!

When I went to Marshall’s for coastal styles,  I wore my Zenergy navy crops, my bee ruffle shirt from Loft, and topped it with a linen shirt from Banana Republic.

I love to have all of these pieces in my wardrobe…I have mixed and matched them often.  My purse was from Marshall’s as well.

On the day I shopped Kohl’s, I wore an older Vince Camuto top from Macy’s with really old Soft Surroundings skinny crop jeans (they no longer carry these).

There are cute tops by Vince Camuto at Macy’s this year…check out these…VINCE CAMUTO AT MACY’S.

HOW I KICKED OFF SUMMER – THE LIST

How I kicked off summer

I told you recently that Leigh Ann and I are going to work through a list which was in Joanna Gaines’s summer edition of Magnolia Journal Magazine.

This list is to help us have a summer where we thrive and flourish.  So, Leigh Ann and I will go through the list…sometimes together and sometimes separately.

How I kicked off summer

I started with an easy one because I listen to the birds sing every morning and today I am letting those of you who follow on Instagram hear them.

There is something so joyful about starting your day with birds singing.

How I kicked off summer

On this day as I listened, I noticed a nice sized hummingbird in my tree.  Do you see him?

He waited there for awhile and then flew done to one of my feeders.

How I kicked off summer

I also noticed a yellow headed wood pecker at the feeder…see the red dot on his head!

We are both doing more on the list and will have more reports soon…watch for them at the bottom of other posts!

Hope you had an amazing week and got a good kick to your own summer.  Hopefully see you tomorrow with Would You Wear It…it will be very different for what I usually do.

I hope you will participate…I even joined in to get the conversation started!

  1. Love your fresh, summery choices! That RL top with the kimono is a perfect, feminine touch! So true about the comfort of the Eileen Fisher pants. You have great luck at Marshall’s… I’m guessing because you spend time looking. That’s one of those places that you can’t rush through, and a reminder to go when there’s time to relax and browse. Fun list of summer things to do!! I LOVE listening to the birds, and early morning seems like the best time because it’s quiet to begin with and you can hear the different songs. The other day I was in my son’s backyard that borders on woods and I was thinking about how the birds do what they do without dragging their feet or complaining about a “to do” list, and they sing while they’re busy! There’s a lesson in that!

  2. My toes like to be free too! We kicked off Memorial Day at the pool, but it’s turning sharply colder so I dragged out a light linen jacket with a hood. One of my favorite looks is covered up on top, but wearing cropped pant or shorts, and sandals on the bottom. The silhouette just conjures warm breezes and ease.

  3. As I’ve said before, you inspire me to try new combinations of clothing rather than “the usual” outfit of jeans and tee shirt. I have closets full of clothes but rarely wear some good pieces for some unknown reason, and keep hanging on to them. I need to practice a form of “use it or lose it” when it comes to my closet contents! I’ll go over to Instagram to listen to your Texan birds while I sit here listening to South Georgian birds which I hear all day fortunately. And I have hummingbird food cooling on my counter right now to add to our feeder. I’m thankful to live in an area where we are surrounded by trees and animal visitors.

  4. Good morning. We love listening to the birds, too. It has become a hobby of ours, particularly since retiring. We have checked off 37 species that have visited us at our feeders. It is a fun project. This year we welcomed a pair of bluebirds for the first time. This weekend we are buying a Baltimore oriole feeder. We are determined to entice them. There is still so much good in the world when we look (and listen) for it. As always, your outfits are inspiring and your blog is an uplifting way to begin the day.

  5. was happy to see your pic of the humming bird ! Usualy I think I am looking at a very bigbug and then finally become aware of what it is., it is usually gone by then. They do not stay in Ne fla. very long. Just passing through!Maybe they wind up in Disney!lol

  6. Hi, Pamela, I’m somewhat new to your blog but I love it & it’s one of the first things I read every morning. This is kind of personal, but since you mentioned your feet, I just wanted to tell you that I had my hammer toes “fixed” a couple or years ago (one foot at a time) & it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It was a pretty easy surgery and a quick recovery. If you’ve thought about it, I just wanted to offer my experience as I didn’t know anyone who had had the surgery prior to mine so, if you’re thinking about it, I just wanted to encourage you. I hope I’m not out of line. Please feel free to not post my reply if it’s inappropriate. You rock!

  7. I had to smile because for some reason I woke up at 3am today and couldn’t fall back to sleep. While I was lying quietly in bed, I started hearing the birds chirping — it was such and early hour and still dark. But they were sweetly chirping away! Very peaceful!

Your hair looks so lovely in these photos!

  8. This morning, it was cool enough to have the window open for some fresh air, so I woke to the birds singing. I was also serenaded by a cardinal as I went to retrieve my morning paper.

  9. I too love that first outfit- great kimono!
I have two ruanas and plan to wear them as a third piece over nicer tees as our weather becomes more summery again. We were in high 80s then dropped to 60s and low 70s!
Hard to know what to wear day to day.
You seem to have created an amazing wardrobe – lots of versatility. I’m learning from you!

  10. I start the day with tea and birds too. We have a feeder outside a kitchen window, and it is such a joy to watch the birds coming and going. We have several turkey vultures, which are the largest birds in RI, as well as red-tailed hawks — awe inspiring! The smaller birds songs are wonderful; the hawk screeches – lol.
You look terrific; every combo is great! (BTW, I did find your LLBean link in a post, but I think it’s missing from your inclusive list if you could add it.)
