What I wore and found while out and about

what I wore

Happy Thursdays, friends!  This has been such a great week of conversations and today I want to show you what I wore and found while out and about!

In case you missed it in this post, you may not know that my entire closet and bathroom items are in my front living room!

We are in the middle of a sudden remodel in the master bath and bedroom…due to a broken P-trap.

WHAT I WORE

What I wore

Both of these outfits are pieces I found when moving clothing around.

Though a remodel does require patience, I kind of like having my wardrobe in a larger space where I can see everything!

I will be a little sad when it is time to put it back in the closet.

I can even peer down on it from the second story and plan outfits!  It’s fun and I love seeing it.

All of these pieces have lived in my wardrobe for awhile, and that is the sign of successful shopping…when you keep and wear a garment often.

The top tunic is by Karen Kane, and the second leopard top is a Vince Camuto.

Here are current styles at Dillard’s from both of these lines…

Also, one of my style adjectives is CURRENT.  A way to stay current is to look at new collections hitting the stores, and often we can emulate them with items we already own.

Here are a few current styles you might enjoy:

That is what I wore this past week to go out and about…let’s see what I found on one of those trips.

WHAT I WORE AND WHAT I FOUND

what I wore

I found a place which was filled with women over 60 at the time I stopped by.

A place where they were obviously there to save money.  I enjoyed visiting with a few of them.

A place I have been in but never really “shopped.”  Now I am a fan.

What I wore

Leigh Ann kept encouraging me to shop Dollar Tree, but it was only this past week that I decided to check out everything there.

I discovered big savings on…

What I wore

Fall decorations….

What I wore

Hallmark Greeting Cards for $1.  In fact, I was able to find four of my grandchildren special cards for them to open at breakfast on the first day of school.

Including stickers…you know they love stickers.

I even picked up cards for encouragement during the first semester.

You can see here that they already have Thanksgiving cards and Veteran’s Day on the racks.

What I wore

Gift bags!

I like to use a touch of calligraphy and write their names big across a bag like this one.

Other specific savings were on dog toys, poop bags, and other pet accessories.

There was a great aisle for teacher’s in need of supplies for their rooms!

The only place I decided to save for my favorite grocery was the food offerings.

Most of the pricing was not that great or comparable and stocked with brands I was not familiar.

But, the Items above held considerable savings…this store is really a grandmother’s dream…especially since many grandmothers are on fixed incomes.

Inflation has resulted with the majority of us looking for ways to save money.  Now I will be shopping Dollar Tree to save in areas where I often spend more.

And, for me, it is nearby so there is no wasting of gas to drive for to a place to save money!!

Do you shop the dollar stores?  I know many of them have had to raise prices and are no longer pure dollar stores, but do you shop them any way?

Where do you believe you find the most savings?

Of course, you can always comment on the what I wore portion of the post.

Also, I want to thank everyone who participated in yesterday’s conversation.  I believe it was encouraging and helpful to many.

This audience is simply the best!

Now I need to go peer over the banister and plan what to wear tomorrow!

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. There is a Dollar Tree that I pass on the way to my mom’s place. I have shopped in one in NY with my grandsons and was amazed that we could get the same name brand snacks for $1. We were shopping for game night! I know that a lot of their products appear to be off brands, but that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with them. My son used to work for a grocery wholesaler and said you’d be amazed at the off brands that are produced in the same plants as the name brands. So there’s that. He was a wealth of information when he had that job, so that removed any doubts I had about these stores. Your featured outfits look like perfect transitional looks! While I’m not ready for the cold weather, I’m looking at things in my closet to decide how to transition by changing up colors and maintaining the “keeping cool” factor. It’s like you have done in these photos. And look at little Tux working his way into the picture!!

  2. My Dollar Tree is now $1.25, a whopping 25 percent increase, which is way more than the inflation rate. I feel many stores are gouging because they can. That said, I buy gift bags there too because living in a downsized space, I don’t keep big stocks of wrapping paper anymore. Another thing I buy there are dishes/platters/bowls to take to potlucks for serving whatever food I’ve brought. That way I don’t have to worry about staying til the end of the event in order to take my dish home. I occasionally buy a greeting card there. I try to resist the urge to buy things that add to the clutter at home (even though they have some cute items), because I find I’m enjoying a more pared down space. I don’t find their grocery, cleaning or personal care products to be a good value, though I’ve heard raves about some of the makeup at Dollar General, which is not a true dollar store.

  3. That would be interesting to have someone on the inside of the grocery industry. Very interesting. I guess these are transitional outfits but it is still in triple digits.

  4. Yes, I shop the dollar store for cards and gift wrap also, and stickers for my piano students. It is always a big savings. I LOVE that long fuschia cardigan in the carousel today from Dillard’s. It’s a little bold for me, but what a fun and feminine piece! I can picture it over a column of creamy white. 😊 Excited to see your remodeled bathroom when done!

  5. I’m excited to see it too! I agree that cardigan would be lovely over a creamy white!

  6. I occasionally shop Dollar Tree. Like Linda M., I have purchased plates & dishes for potluck items or for items I am giving to someone. There’s no need to worry about returning a plate or dish that way. I have also bought some cleaning sponges, floral picks, puzzle books & gift bags. A word of caution would be to always check the handles on the gift bags & the expiration date on food or OTC medications. I have had handles come off, & sometimes the items they have are very close to expiration.

  7. Good advice, Becky. I do want to add that my 7 year old grandson loved the puzzle I bought for me there!

  8. I began shopping ALDI grocery stores for produce and stole groceries. I save $10 or more , last time I saved $28 compared to H‑E‑B. They are not a full service store and have some name brands one off brands but I have been pleased. They also have wine! Also shop the clearance shelves H‑E‑B and Kroger. Dollar stores are great for cards, mailing supplies, party goods, …………!

  9. I’ve been buying cards and gift bags at Dollar Tree for years. With nine grandkids it’s such a savings, not only for birthdays and Christmas, but Halloween, Easter, and Valentine’s Day. It’s also a great place to buy toiletries to give away to folks in need. There’s a great organization here called Personalities that collects gently used handbags filled with goodies to give to women in shelters at Christmas.
I really like your Vince Camuto leopard top! Perfect for fall!

  10. Thanks Sharon and thank you for mentioning how you use the toiletries! Love that!
