Casual fall outfit for warm weather

casual fall outfit

Happy Monday, friends!  Today, I am going to discuss how I put together this casual fall outfit for warm weather over the weekend.

I hope your weekend was fun…mine certainly was with the beginning of three grandchildren’s birthdays in a row.

The first party dictated a casual fall outfit for warm weather need.

So here is my thought process for putting this together…plus what I made for the party at the end.

CASUAL FALL OUTFIT: THE CHALLENGE

The theme for my granddaughter’s sixth birthday party was the movie “Encanto.”

Everyone would be wearing lots of color and “Mexican-inspired” styles…pretty typical wear in San Antonio….for a casual fall outfit.

The challenge for the casual fall outfit was the heat.  It was an outdoor party in high humidity and temps in the upper 90s.

There would be lots of sweets and little children…so no need for one of my nicer outfits.

Often when composing a casual fall outfit for warm weather, I think of my kimonos which I keep in a drawer.

Almost all of my kimonos are colorful and when I saw this blue/green, I immediately envisioned it with the yellow sleeveless top.

These are my JJILL cargo pants from a few years ago, and they fit very similar to the High-Rise Cuffed Crops currently on sale there.

I own kimonos from all over the place and the ones I like the most have been purchased at small retailers or boutiques.

I like the way this one hangs…it is more flattering than most oversized kimonos.

I will say…for this party…this was a perfect fall casual outfit.  It worked and I did not get overheated at all.

Also, my gold sneakers kept me moving and helping…there was much to do.

CASUAL FALL OUTFIT: THE PARTY

Outside there was face painting…balloon shaping…pinata hitting…unicorn games…Encanto games…pizza…trampoline jumping…

I really wanted to get my face or arm painted…but, alas, the line was too long!

CASUAL FALL OUTFIT: WHAT I MADE

I was asked to bring Rice Krispie Treats….and it is just not in me to do typical ones.

While on the site with the veggie casserole, I saw a recipe for taking these up a notch.

I followed that recipe, put these little candy pumpkins on top (which Leigh Ann helped me find at Target), and they were a hit with all ages.

The recipe:  Rice Krispie Treats

But, I also wanted to try a recipe for Pumpkin Spice Fudge!

It was really good but really gooey…I saw a couple of dads go back for more…so I guess it did not matter that it was sticky.

I would like to figure out how to remedy that and have it a candy to eat without needing a fork.

It is very rich and sweet!

CASUAL FALL OUTFIT: A SUCCESS

My granddaughter deemed this one a success…she said, “Gigi, you look very Encanto!”

She also told me my hair was Encanto too!  So I guess I have that look wherever I go!

It is the perfect time of year to buy kimonos…many are on sale….and they work great for a casual fall outfit for warm weather and creative fun.

For those who need that casual fall outfit for warm weather, here are a few kimonos currently on the market: (Note, I included the short robe, because I would so wear it as a kimono!)

I could not link this site with my affiliate program, but I want you to see this gorgeous kimono at KIM+ONO called Peony & Butterfly.

And for anyone interested in joining me with wearing gold metallic sneakers (that I love!)….here is a slideshow for you!

Living in San Antonio, we are constantly inspired by color wherever we go.

Thus, preparing for an Encanto party was pretty easy.

Thanks for joining me today for my granddaughter’s party and to hear about my casual fall outfit for warm weather.

Questions and comments, of course, are welcome!

See you tomorrow……..until then…..

  1. pamela, since you like rice krispie treats with a twist, NY Times cooking has a version with chunks of chocolate & those small square buttery pretzels mixed in. & flaky salt sprinkled on top.

There’s also a version out on the internet somewhere that uses the Biscoff spread & I *think* the cookies

Then there’s just the idea of replacing some/all of the rice krispies with other, usually children’s cereal, like fruity pebbles

Re the fudge: maybe compare the recipe you used to a pb fudge recipe? Also, I’m guessing it had pumpkin puree in it. Which is kind of watery. But I know from some pumpkin pie recipes that you can cook pumpkin down to drive off the water. Although that may be more bother than you want to go to.

  2. Perfect fall outfit for a very warm day and a child’s birthday party! You look sensational!
The goodies you made have me drooling for something sweet ( not literally). I might experiment with an Apple-Cinnamon coffee cake using my gf flour. Fingers crossed! I have hit and miss experiences with GF recipes.
I’m so glad you had fun and that your treats were a hit!

  3. Funny that just last night late I was reading through several smoothie recipes on “Two Peas and their Pod” website which was not familiar to me, and then this morning you refer to this recipe on her site. And last Thursday I was contacted about making something for the church bazaar to sell in a bake sale, but the item could not need refrigeration over night. I’m a big cheesecake baker, but that wouldn’t work so I’ve been trying to think of something else that is popular and will sell. I think you’ve solved my problem because who doesn’t like Rice Krispie treats?! Now to look for some little pumpkins or something to go on top, and some of those nice, cellophane bags to put them in, tied with a little bit of ribbon. I like your kimono and colorful outfit. I was at a bridal shower yesterday, and saw so many pretty kimonos. As one friend said “ If I don’t like a body part, I decorate it!” 😂😁

  4. We ate in one of our favorite Mexican restaurants this weekend and it was hanging there…I just had to have picture of it…love it too.

  5. The party looked fun! Hot though! I love your color combo. I’m struggling to put together a cruise wardrobe for a two week trip through the Panama Canal. I finally caved and ordered some kimonos (they are just not me). We will see. And I ordered … everything through your links, of course … some flowy Soma items that I intend to wear to dinner. Lingerie worn for formal wear has a long history, and I can get some wear out of it when I get home.

  6. Bless you Linda for using the links to shop! It helps so much. Let us know how your cruise goes! Have fun…..

  7. I love the idea of all those bright and cheerful colors of Mexico surrounding you in San Antonio.

Sounds like a wonderful birthday celebration!

  8. It was a great party…made the heat easier to bare. San Antonio is such a colorful, artistic town. Lots of inspiration all around us.

  9. I love all the colorful kimonos that you have featured. Today it is 55° up here in Michigan and I would like to wear some kimonos this fall but be warm. What would you suggest as a warm sweater or shirt to wear under the kimonos this fall?

  10. Hi Mary…I wear kimonos often in cooler weather. My favorite style is with a V neck sweater or V neck long sleeve knit solid color top and a fun necklace. You can find these tops in many places right now.
    Thanks for asking!
