Master bathroom renovation reveal

bathroom renovation

Happy Friday!  I am so excited to announce…My Master bathroom renovation reveal…definitely a gift to Mr. B and me!

It has been over three months of ups and downs…and I have struggled with patience.

But, the results are exactly what I wanted!

So, drumroll going forward…….

BATHROOM RENOVATION REVEAL – HOW IT STARTED

bathroom renovation

It all started here…with the p-trap under our shower.

I had no idea what a p-trap was…but I do now.  While using a snake, a plumber pushed too hard and destroyed the p-trap.

We have lived in an older custom built home for over 20 years and, as many of you know, we recently renovated the kitchen.

So, tackling the master bath at this time was not on our radar.  We knew it needed to be done and we desired it to be done…but financially had not prepared for it to come now.

Well, when the great p-trap caper occurred, since it was not our fault, we received insurance money to fix it and we also received a lot of friendly counsel that now was the time to renovate.

BATHROOM RENOVATION REVEAL – THE OLD

bathroom renovation

Here is the old design.  You do not see the carpet meeting the white tile, or the His/Her closets on either side or the small room of the main holding the toliet.

In order to be economically wise, we decided to make the original design look better but not necessarily change the layout completely.

One company pitched one large shower along that wall with a completely covered window.  That is the front of our house, so we needed to keep that in mind.

I also love to see the trees out the upper part of the window….I love how I can watch the seasons change in that little window…so much fun.

You are also looking at wallpaper…it is the original which came with the house….so that was a consideration with the painting.

But it is amazing how small tweaks make it seem larger and completely different.

BATHROOM RENOVATION REVEAL – THE NEW….TA DA!

bathroom renovation

I opted not to take some advice and go with a more modern design of black & white….for resale purposes.

The rest of my home is warm….French country….modern farmhouse…Tuscan…whatever you want to call it.

I plan to live here for a long time.  For me it was about what I like…and not what a future buyer would like.

In this day and age, you also have to make some occasional compromises.

This is not the bathtub originally wanted, but we were told the only available in town…unless we wanted to wait a long time.

bathroom renovation

We did follow the advice given to take the flooring from the bath into the master bedroom…and glad we did.

Carpet is gone and floors renovated with this tile that resembles the look of wood planks.  Love it!

Also, on the other side of the shower pony wall is a built in shelf for shampoos, soaps, etc.

I have already written about how much I love the quartz counter top…it was a bold move but so glad Mr. B supported me to go for it!

bathroom renovation

I really struggled with the space between the mirrors.  I finally decided the floating shelves were more functional.

However, I also think a great piece of art would look so good there.  I still think that, but I am letting it go!

The little vase and ring holder were purchased on our recent trip to Fredericksburg and the vase is holding lavender.

 BATHROOM RENOVATION REVEAL – ACCESSORIES

bathroom renovation

I was excited when the wonderful people of Rugs Direct said they wanted to be a part of my renovation projects.

This is a bathroom rug that I like…because it does not look like a bathroom rug and adds a touch of “chic” to the project.

This is the Surya Lavable Runner.

bathroom renovation

This runner Is washable, and comes with a pad for the back.  It is treated on the bottom so that it will not slip.

Rugs Direct currently has a Warehouse Sale in progress and I do recommend them.  Free Shipping and a great product.

BRONZE ACCESSORIES

In this renovation reveal, I confess to spending hours on Amazon reading and putting the bronze accessories together.

Here are the links in case anyone is interested…I had a budget and stuck to it!

Shower accessory set

Kohler sink facet sets

Floating Shelves

Tub Faucet Set

Lights over the mirrors

Closet Lights

Finally, the crowning glory…the accessory that protects the p-trap and captures my thick curly hair…..

The Lekeye Shower Stall Drain Protector!!

This weekend I will be organizing, re-organizing, and tossing stuff to move back in…will be so happy when everything is back into it’s place.

Thanks for allowing me to share my bathroom renovation reveal and to celebrate with me….hopefully….a return to order!

Any thoughts, questions or comments are welcome….see you tomorrow for Would You Wear It!  While I love it, there are somethings yet to be done on it that are small…but need to be done.

KEEP SMILING, ALL!

  1. Looks very pretty and nicely updated. The frameless showers are definitely the way to go, I’m finding it easier to keep clean. I have never seen quartz that color, but it seems to go so nicely with the rug. Great idea to use a runner in place of traditional bath rugs. Nicely done! It’s always a treat to use “new” rooms that are finished just the way you want! I’m sure you are really enjoying it!

  2. We are, Karen! We move back in this weekend. I fell for the quartz as soon as I saw it and wanted something bold in the room.

  3. Pam, this is just lovely! Warm and soothing. Good things come to those who wait, right? Do you by any chance have a link to get a commission on the rug? I’m looking for exactly the same type of rug you bought: something that works but is not too bathmat-y looking.
    Thanks for sharing.

  4. I am working on that, Maeve. I hope to be able to announce that soon, but they could not help me with it and I wanted to get the reveal done. Thank you for asking. If you are ready to get a rug like this…go ahead, I understand.
I really hope to have the commission issue settled soon.

  5. When I picked up my iPad this morning, I thought “ Oh, goody, we get to see Pam’s bathroom today!”. It is so pretty, and we’ll-coordinated, and finally finished! This is one of those situations in life that people do not fully understand unless they’ve been there. I think you made excellent choices on all your fixtures, and I’m bold enough to really love your quartz countertop too. The new tile around the tub and shower look so much warmer and less sterile than the previous white tile. BTW my idea of 15 minutes of decluttering per day came from the thoughts of the FlyLady…it did not get that way overnight, and it won’t get decluttered overnight.

  6. Beautiful Pam! I have bathroom envy over here! It was well worth the wait I am sure and you did a great job pulling it together. I hope you enjoy it for years to come. I really love the floating shelves which means you can change out the display periodically and helps to keep your eye entertained. The rug is perfect!

  7. Thanks Kat! I already have a little Christmas planned for one of those shelves…it is fun to have something to work with like that. Thanks on the rug…I am impressed with Rugs Direct.

  8. It’s beautiful, and rugs direct has been my go to when rug shopping for awhile, I’m never disappointed with them.

  9. Yes- really great looking. Love the warm feel you’ve created. And as others have pointed out- loving the runner! Pretty and practical.
You deserve this lovely new bathroom!

  10. What great choices! I know from experience how exhausting it all is. Every little little decision seems massive on its own, and everything needs to blend in the end. You did a great job with the color undertones and I LOVE the floating shelves and the rug . I know how much you enjoy changing your decor. Enjoy! Patience paid off. You are on your way of showcasing the reveal at Thanksgiving. I remember when my daughter was confirmed along with neighborhood friends, so many parents redid their powder rooms. A good excuse for welcoming company, not a P-pipe problem. You probably never want to hear that word again.
I can picture you beaming from ear to ear.

  11. Hi Susan It is tile, but looks like wood and we took it into our bedroom. It is comfortable to walk on. Friends recommended this and we found it at a local tile company. We like it a lot.

  12. I am grinning ear to ear. While the trap situation was annoying, it got us here so I can’t really complain…..and make sure to protect the new one. Thanks Deborah!

  13. I absolutely love your bathroom! Changing out the tub seems to have given you a lot more room, and updated the space nicely without costly plumbing moves. I like your choices for -your- house, way more than I would have liked a modern black and white bathroom. While that sort of bathroom can be spectacular and even timeless, I disagree that a bathroom like that would be better for resale, as it would be out of step with the rest of your gracious, earthy-colored home and look glaringly out of place to any potential buyer. I enjoy decorating, and when we moved to our smaller condo with the lower ceilings, we decided to work with the traditional bones of the house, and not against them. It was the correct choice. I get lots of compliments on my diagonally set, checkerboard charcoal and cream tile, and other elements. Mostly though, it suits us, and that is what our personal spaces are supposed to do.

  14. I like how you said…working with the traditional bones of the house…I believe that is what we did! Thanks for the words, Linda!

  15. Your new bathroom looks lovely. I guess sometimes waiting and a little inconvenience is worth it. One thing about now settling in is you can now declutter. That is something I need to do.
    Enjoy!!

  16. Love love love the new bathroom. So glad you were bold and went with your style instead of the black and white for resale value. As you once told me, always do you. This truly looks like YOUR bathroom, warm and friendly. The counter tops are to die for.
Congratulations! And just in time for the holidays.

  17. Congratulations Pam. It’s so nice to have it all done. Give yourselves a big “pat on the back.” It’s so much to have to power through. You survived the remodel. We did this several years ago to our master bathroom and kitchen. We encountered a huge speed bump with one of our contractors for our bathroom. I completely appreciate what you have gone through, especially since it was not on the budget for right now.

  18. The speed bumps were tough, but thankfully in the past. Thanks for your empathy, Katherine.

  19. Your bathroom update is beautiful. The tile flooring is great with the look of wood. I like the open shelves, great for seasonal changes.
I am sure you will continue to enjoy the change.

  20. Your new bathroom is lovely and was totally worth the wait! I love how you have a lot more storage with the vanity drawers. The mirrors, light fixtures, floating shelves, and frameless shower really update the room.

  21. Your new bathroom is my style also. Like the warm colors. The tile on the side of the tub is different . We recently moved into a smaller home and have seamless shower doors…
Question….. what did manufacturers suggest to clean soap scum with and do you wipe shower doors down every time you take a shower so they sparkle?

  22. Well Done! Having renovating two bathrooms this summer I completely understand all the decisions that were required and the hours taken to find and source your beautiful choices. I too am down to choosing art and accent pieces. If you were thinking of a picture between the mirrors you could always put one on the top shelf. Comparing the bathroom to your fashion choices I think you have the bases but still need that BRIGHT pop of colour you always add and I think you could already have, somewhere in your house, the perfect picture, vase or piece of pottery for that shelf.

  23. Lovely . The floors are great . We just remodeled ours too and I got tired of cleaning blinds on our window so we took them down and put window privacy film . Love love it . Let’s light in but not able to see thru and just needs a wipe to clean . Many choices including just plain frosted . We got some that loooks like leaded glass art . Easy to install

  24. Our manufacturer suggested rinsing with cold water then using a squeegee or wiping down. We have a hand held sprayer so is quick and easy and takes but a minute.

  25. Kudos!! Great bathroom re-do. Are you new mirrors, by chance, actually medicine cabinets? That’s what we chose when building and what a Godsend! Great choices, Pamela!

  26. Hi Christi, we went with the lower priced mirror because we already had a medicine cabinet over by my sink, but it is a great idea if you need that space!

  27. You did a beautiful job putting in your new bathroom!! We put a new bathroom in a few years ago after 25 years in our home!!! I love it!!!!
