Celebrations and Sales

Whew!  Happy, happy Tuesday all!  I am still recovering from a great celebration weekend with family, but wanted to get going again with a post about Celebrations and Sales!

I hope everyone here experienced joyful celebrations this past weekend and that all are warm and safe.

We began celebrating with family on Friday and went strong all the way to the end of day on Sunday.

It was a blessing and now I am looking forward to a joyous beginning to 2023.

CELEBRATIONS AND SALES: CHRISTMAS EVE

Celebrations and sales

I changed my outfit plan for our Christmas Eve celebration.

We began at our Church service and I wore brown and forrest green.

The brown denim and snakeskin shacket are both past Chico’s purchases and I topped it with my gold snowflake scarf.

CHICO’S SEMI-ANNUAL SALE  is well underway with some pieces 70% off!!

This is also what I was wearing for a horse drawn carriage ride around the JW Marriott and Resort!

I regretted not bringing a coat…it was freezing!  But singing Christmas carols at the top of our lungs made it warmer and a special memory.

Members of our family stayed at the resort for the holiday and I am so impressed with all of the activities they have for kids and celebrations.

My daughter said, she would highly recommend it.

CELEBRATIONS AND SALES: UPDATES

celebrations and sales

Here is a celebration update…

I shared this peppermint cookie recipe with you in this SUNDAY MORNING AT HOME post and told you I froze the dough.

Well, the dough turned out to be these delicious little trees with peppermint sprinkles…I even had them to share with little Christmas carolers who stopped by.

I really like this dough…it is so easy to work with for cutouts and the flavor is excellent.  I still highly recommend the recipe.

Even in freezing weather in South Texas, we are accustomed to eating ice cream at our celebrations.

I made a Peppermint Ice Cream pie with a homemade chocolate sauce…it went so quick, I did not get a picture of the pie!

But, it really is so simple….

I made a graham cracker crust with Cinnamon Graham Crackers.

Filled it with an excellent Peppermint Ice Cream and froze it.

The chocolate sauce is so good and can be used on anything….

GERMAN CHOCOLATE SAUCE (The picture shows a double portion)

1/2 cup butter

1 4oz package of sweet German Chocolate…I use Baker’s In a green package

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/8 teaspoon salt

1 5 oz can of evaporated milk

In a small pan, over low heat, melt the butter and add the chocolate pieces to melt as well.   Stir it often until all is melted.

Next stir in the sugar, vanilla, salt and milk and bring to a boil increasing the heat to medium.  Cook at least five minutes and don’t stop stirring.

I store it in the refrigerator and then reheat the sauce in the microwave to put over each piece of the pie and then top each slice with whipped cream…it went fast.

I also love to do this with Pralines and Cream Ice Cream…so good.

CELEBRATIONS AND SALES:  CHRISTMAS 2022 IS A WRAP

celebrations and sales

With four dogs, one mad cat, and six kids nine and under, the celebration got so wild at our house that someone called the police!

Just kidding…but these adorable cops did steal the show!  One of these guys just loves costumes so much!

Please share with us any special moments from your holiday celebrations over the weekend!  We would love to hear….

Yes…tomorrow there will be a Today’s News for Women Over 50…the news goes on…and then we will be discussing the new year ahead.

  1. I need to try the chocolate sauce, I made a good bit of Carmel sauce for friends. Glad you had a wonderful weekend, my family just made it to Mississippi from Texas last night so…..Christmas this morning!

  2. I well remember the fun and hectic nature of small grandchildren excited at Christmas time. Our youngest grandchild is now in high school so we no longer have little children around at Christmas. And instead of attempting to buy gifts when teenagers can be very particular, we now give them money. However, we have also given them often numerous presents during the year, gold jewelry, computers, clothing, trips, airline tickets. However, we all did gather Christmas Eve to eat together, and catch up with each other. A quiet Christmas was nice.

  3. Thank you for sharing the Peppermint,Cookie recipe. We have made them twice already – once as peppermint and one batch we frosted with regular frosting. They were delicious! I love reading your blog! I look forward to each and everyone. Happy New Year!

  4. We celebrated at our sons home on Christmas Eve, loosened snd shared gifts and toasted our Christmas all together! The older grandsons were home from college (yay) fir a few weeks snd my two little 4 year olds ( Ben and Bay) enjoyed playing with new toys til time to leave for bedtime at home waiting for Santa! (Luckily we all live within 20 minutes of each other!). Christmas morning we were at my daughters home ! Got to see what Santa brought! A whirlwind!

  5. Pam, thanks for sharing your joyful celebration! It warmed my heart. Those small police officers stole the show. I made peppermint ice cream pie, too. I alternated ice cream and chocolate sauce in the pie shell and gave it a swirl. Delicious! Have a beautiful week!

  6. Your little policemen gave me a smile. The boys are adorable. Happy New Year The carriage ride looked like fun

  7. Your holiday looks super fun. I am on the way to San Antonio with a stop in Austin to see the capital building and the Bob Bullock museum. I have my ten-year old grandson with me, so we will go to the Alamo plus the riverwalk. So excited to tour your city.

  8. I’m grateful our storm was bad, but not bad enough to keep most of us apart. Somehow, in the middle of the evening, my youngest brother and I just started belting out tunes from Westside Story, and laughed so hard. So we decided to rehearse in secret next fall and sing something more appropriate for the family next year. We have a grandbaby boy due in March, and got to see our daughter-in-law, who only had a few hours off from her job as a surgical resident. Feeling the baby bump (and him moving inside!) was my favorite present.

  9. Oh my, I am going to try your way next time with the pie! Sounds so good! Thanks for sharing!

  10. That’s an awesome present…I love feeling those movements….and.. I would have been singing right along with you!

  11. Oh, I just love seeing your grandsons as junior policemen! Both my boys enjoyed costumes when little, my youngest most of all, and I treasure the pictures and memories so much. Your outing in the carriage looks like such fun, and I will give the pie idea a try for our New Year’s dinner.

  12. Kathy, the Bullock Museum is so well done! Be sure you don’t skip the presentation in the theater. It’s not just a movie – there are all kinds of special effects that bring you into the story, such as being sprayed with mist during the Galveston hurricane, etc. Austin and San Antonio are both such Texas treasures and I can’t wait til my grands are big enough for that kind of fun. Have a great trip!

  13. Pamela, I’m so thankful you are sufficiently recovered to have such an exciting Christmas weekend! Thanks for sharing it with us. Your church outfit choice was a good reminder to me that we can dress seasonally without wearing tomato red and green, and I’m going to look for a similar scarf in the post-season sales. I absolutely loved your “JOYFUL” shirt – what a wonderful photo, I don’t even like peppermint, but I’m going to try that amazing pie when I ever get over pneumonia. I know it would be a hit with my family and I think I might even like it, too! (I’ll eat nearly anything if you put enough chocolate on it-LOL!) I know this page will continue to be a bright spot in my internet in the coming year, and can’t wait to see what you have in store for us. New Year’s blessings to you and yours!

  14. Though I don’t bake as much as I use to, both recipes sound delish and I shall definitely copy them and will add them to a cook book I did years ago of just my favourites that I gave to each our children when ‘they left the nest’. As to Christmas, so glad Pam that it was ‘joyous’ for you and your family and that Mother Nature was kind to you weather wise unlike here in Canada. -Brenda-
Footnote: Due to inclement weather; one of my Son-in-laws enroute from Columbia SA (who was travelling on Government business) made it to Canada however did relinquish his seat (together with another young man) to an elderly couple that had medical problems whose flight also had been cancelled and were trying to get home as even the highway was closed (Dec. 22nd & 23rd) that under normal conditions was only a three hour drive or fourty-five minutes in flight time. (Also the trains were not running between at least three major cities including ours.) Needless to say, he finally arrived late Christmas Eve whereas many others were not as fortunate to reach their destinations as planned with some being stranded for days from what I have read.

  15. What a kind gesture! Warms my heart to hear how kind they were to the elderly couple. They gave Christmas gifts to many people just with that one decision! Thank you for sharing Brenda.
