Sunday mornings at home

Happy Sunday…happy Hanukkah…happy week before Christmas Day!  Welcome to Sunday mornings at home!

This is a time when I reflect on the past week and the week going forward and share my happenings in Sunday mornings at home.

As I have written before, I love the Jewish holidays and the beauty and deep meaning of the ceremonies.

I do have Jewish friends…so may this year’s celebrations bring you great joy.

When I was a kid, I wrote a poem about the week before Christmas that I still recite every year!  It is seared into my memory.

Now, let’s fill everyone’s cup of joy and sit down to discuss…Sunday mornings at home.

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME – CRUNCH TIME!

Sunday mornings at home

Tux is exhausted watching me scurry about in preparations for next week.

Once again, I am blessed to host my family on Christmas morning and this year, for Christmas Day Dinner.

And I am thrilled to have my out-of-town grandchildren joining us for at least 7 days this year!

There is much to be done…wrapping, stockings, baking, cooking, grocery shopping, and preparation for what is forecast to be a very cold Christmas weekend.

The preparations are important to me…I hope to be creating memories for my grandchildren and establishing a legacy of joy at Christmas.

A legacy I hope the family will build on and continue…we always have such fun together on this day and I cherish this time.

Due to sickness, we were unable to host the family at Thanksgiving so this year’s Christmas meal will be similar….that was a request from my children.

Usually, it is Tex-Mex food…enchiladas, tamales, queso…but this year will be more traditional.

I am planning ham, turkey, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, macaroni & cheese, salad, rolls, gravy….and peppermint ice cream pie with a homemade chocolate sauce topping.

YUM!

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME – MY WHEELHOUSE

Sunday mornings at home

When I am in the kitchen, I am in my wheelhouse…a happy place…especially when the weather gets colder.

Last week, I made a pot of my Chicken Tortilla Soup.

If you click the link, you will find my recipe…right down to the tortilla chips I like best.  So, good and warm.

Also, last week, I began to make extra loaves of my pumpkin bread to freeze.

It freezes well and is great to have on hand to give out to a neighbor, or delivery person…just anyone!

Here is the recipe for MY AWARD WINNING PUMPKIN BREAD.

On Tuesday, I will share one of Leigh Ann’s recent dessert recipes that she made for a holiday dinner party.

I think I am going to take it to a party next week where I was asked to bring a dessert…that will be on Tuesday.

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME – JOY ALL AROUND

Sunday Mornings at Home

Everywhere I go, the word JOY is jumping out at me…it is all around us.

Use it as a way to remember to Count Your Blessings.

Every year, I share with you this wonderful song from the classic movie White Christmas.

Bing Crosby gives us great advice for anytime we cannot sleep…..

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME – NEXT WEEK

Handing down the baton does take work.

I do have some fun planned for next week….a fun Leigh & Me tomorrow will kick things off.

Thank you for joining me for Sunday Mornings at Home…and thank you so much for all of the well wishes…I am feeling great right now!

  1. I just know that your family, and especially those precious grandchildren, so love to get together at GiGi’s house at Christmas! Your house is beautiful and your ever joyful disposition are so welcoming to all of us so I know your family feels your energy and holiday spirit more so. I too enjoy my time spent in the kitchen though I’m usually only cooking for my Mr. B and me. Your pumpkin bread sounds delicious, and I’m impressed that as a young lady you won a baking prize. Thank you for inspiring me to approach this busy week with joy in my heart!

  2. I share your excitement, Pam. Just let us know what time to arrive for dinner (haha). Seriously, all your preparation is an act of love and one your grandchildren will remember. I found lists my mother wrote of food (and recipes) she made for various events. I highly recommend this, escpecially for your granddaughters … although the funny thing is my son is more attuned to traditional holiday meals than my daughter is. Happy Sunday.

  3. I love this idea and really need the do it. Thanks for sharing…and would love to have you for dinner!!

  4. Wonderful post (as always), capturing the heart of the holidays. So glad to read that you’re feeling great, especially since it sounds like your house will be overflowing with love and family, and food. Good to know that Tux is lending moral support. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  5. Thank you Theresa and to you. After this year, I do not take anything for granted, but the plan is that we will all be together and no one sick.

  6. I’m trying to rearrange celebrations today in case a predicted winter storm hits us Christmas Eve morning. We have some out-of-towners who need to move on to the other family, and I don’t want them driving a long way in bad weather. In recent years, our Christmas celebrations have gotten more and more simple. I make a really pretty cheese/food board and some other treats. I find that the simpler it is, the more relaxed it is for me, and I think for others too, especially family members who are flying in and have little control over the schedule. Traditional or not, it’s a wonderful season. For a few precious days, everything is magical.

  7. I hope you and your fam enjoy an amazing holiday. Recent events have made us all appreciate time together! I also appreciate the Hanukkah shout out! While it’s not the equivalent of Christmas it always feels good to be “seen.” I will try your tortilla soup and look forward to more Tex Mex recipes. They are my son’s favorite!

  8. That is what is so wonderful, Linda. We all know what works best for our families and traditions and no matter the tradition, hopefully we are establishing our own legacies. Have fun…stay warm!
