The many faces of tweed

many faces of tweed

Happy Fashion Friday, everyone!  Today, I would like to call attention to the many faces of tweed.

Now, I realize tweed is classic dressing, but the fashion industry is beginning to show many faces of tweed for a variety of styles.

It is no longer just available in the classic Coco Chanel blazer and while that is a great look, the many faces of tweed exceed just the main design.

You can find it now in all lengths, and in all types of toppers.

This realization came to mind this past week while shopping Marshalls.

THE MANY FACES OF TWEED

When I first walked in a local Marshalls, I was greeted with this outfit on display.

It made me stop and think…that is a different look for tweed.

As I looked around, there were many different styles on the racks all surrounded by shoppers.

I tried these on just to show you what I was available for this year.

If I had been shopping for me, I would have taken more sizes in with me.

But, the point is to see these more relaxed styles as the many faces of tweed evolve to new places.

Today’s slideshow features tweed garments currently on the market:

MY FACE OF TWEED

Currently, my face of tweed is this Ming Wang tweed cardigan I have owned for many years.

I previously wore it often to work.  I like the classic, yet relaxed style of the cardigan and with a touch of brown, it still works for my color family.

I like it as a polished casual style …much better for my present more-relaxed life than the classic tweed blazer.

There is something about tweed that just takes a casual look up a notch.  I am so glad I decided to keep it in the closet.

When I wore it to work, it was most often with a collared blouse underneath.

Almost everything here has been in my wardrobe for awhile.

I can, however, link to the Easy Spirit Larime Ankle Booties in brown….the are excellent, comfy, easy to walk in, booties.  I do recommend. USE THE CODE GIVE for 15% off.

I do believe tweed can be dressed up or down, and with so many faces of tweed it is much easier to find garments that fit your life too.

How do you feel about tweed?   A fan or not….and please share your reasons.

Oh, yes, one more thing…I want to show you these cute sweater and hat sets by designer Rachel Zoe that I also found at Marshalls.

Really cute winter fashion for you or a gift!

Thanks for being here…please comment on the tweed…and I will be back tomorrow with WOULD YOU WEAR IT!  Hope to see you then….

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. I personally love tweed, and your jacket is very pretty with it’s basically classic styling. The bracelet sleeves give it some extra interest. I agree that tweed elevates casual style, and I will always gravitate toward the classic lines. I made a Chanel style suit in tweed and wish I still had it, or at least the jacket! I may have to make another one! The oversized and dropped shoulder looks don’t appeal to me at all, and they are in abundance right now. If I make one, I can get exactly the style I want. Thank you for the inspiration! I like how you used lighter color boots instead of matching the pants. That definitely adds interest and is less predictable, though both options certainly work. Tweed is just so classy!

  2. Interesting that you are showing your pretty tweed jacket today because that is something I’ve had in the back of my mind to find. I too have thought that I could wear it with jeans for a casual look as well as dressed up with slacks and even low heels. I think I prefer the shorter styles like yours rather than the longer ones, but would need to try on some to see. And, as always, I need petite sizes which are not always available. However, I’m pleased to see that both Loft and Ann Taylor show petite sizes in your slideshow. BTW I looked at the Sheec socks for booties through your website and unfortunately that style is sold out currently in my size. But I will keep hoping they are available soon as they are the only ones that stay up on my feet.

  3. When I moved and scaled down my wardrobe I discarded a similar tweed jacket from Coldwater Creek but I did keep a dressy white and silver tweed jacket from Talbots. I love a nice boucle tweed because it adds texture and interest to an outfit. I often think of that CC jacket but it would have just taken up space in my closet. My lifestyle in SoCal doesn’t call for jackets too often! You look great in yours!

  4. I really like it, although I have only one in my closet, south Florida and all, it doesn’t get out much, but I love the look, so timeless , always looks classy.

  5. I love tweed, especially true Donegal tweed jackets, which are almost always lined. Lining makes a big difference, I think. The unlined, unstructured jackets are great with jeans, but I wouldn’t wear them with dressier pants or skirts (not that I wear skirts anymore LOL). I have a couple of lined tweed jackets from Talbots that I have had forever. They are nice and warm in our winter weather, and they can be worn with everything. I love the jacket you’re modeling for us winter ladies, but your repurposed work jacket outfit is sensational.

  6. Yes to the classic Chanel style in tweed. So many possibilities! Even worn with jeans!
Love your look today- the slightly shorter sleeve ( bracelet) us very attractive!
Abd yes, tweed is found everywhere and in so many forms: handbags, vest-like tops piped in leather or faux leather —- the list goes on. Love it!

  7. Oh Pamela, I am loving this outfit on you as very polished yet casual and also how you book-ended it, by adopting the brown color in your cardigan for your footwear. As to tweed; being a classic dresser I am a big fan of it and do own several pieces from vests, midi skirts, pants, blazers and a selection of outerwear.

P.S.: I have one wool winter black ‘n white, single breasted ‘wool’ tweed coat (hate to think how old it is but absolutely shows no wear) that I have even style revised which started off as maxi length that had (real) black fox trim on its hemline with a removable matching collar that currently is a midi style with leather piping instead on its collar, sleeves and now is worn with a leather belt.

  8. I have three tweed jackets from pre retirement that I wear all the time, year round. They are classics that never go out of style.

  9. Ooh! – I love MrsBen’s description of her coat with the fox fur trim, and that she loved the coat enough to refashion it. You, Pam, look terrific in the various tweed jackets. I have a very similar tweed jacket to the first pic from Marshall’s, lighter colors. It is unlined, which I found to be most comfortable, as I wore it recently to an event and didn’t want to feel restricted as a lined or more fitted garment will sometimes do. Love that spicy orange Karl Lagerfeld piece in the carousel. Sadly not available in my size. What a fun piece though, and with the unexpected zip details at the pockets.

  10. I love this post about tweed. I like the texture of tweed and am glad to know it is being featured in stores. Your analysis of wearing it is quite helpful. I like this type of discussion about fashion that applies to all women whether working or not. Thank you for your thoughts.

  11. Let me start by saying I am a Spinner and a Weaver….so I know my fabrics. I am going to be a stickler here and say that most of these are NOT tweed. Harris Tweed is working hard to preserve a long heritage of tweed fabric…the history, how it is woven, how the yarn is dyed, etc. Sadly many companies are labeling their goods as tweed when they are not and this just confuses everyone. Most of these jackets a Bouclé….which is a gorgeous fabric in and of itself….so please call it what it is and celebrate the many Bouclé jackets out there for sale.

  12. Looks like we have another Linda M! I will have to be Linda LM. Welcome, other Linda M. There were four Lindas in my first grade class, so I’m used to it. I’m weighing in late, but I absolutely love tweed. Combining it with darker colors gives me a softer, richer color story for my blue autumn palette that has become more flattering as I age. I particularly love it in accessories or jackets, and dressed down rather than dressed up.

  13. @Lauren: Re fabric ‘type’; agree as find rather than educate the consumer many companies are misleading them by incorrect definitions.

  14. I am not the expert that you and Brenda are, but mislabeling really bugs me. Last year, Talbots featured “Donegal” jackets that were woven in Italy and weren’t even tweed-y. This year they are having real trouble distinguishing among crew necks, bateau necks, and jewel necks.

  15. I like Tweed but don’t have any tweed clothes in my wardrobe.
Next time I am shopping I will see if there is any tweed in the petite departments.

  16. Great article! I love the texture tweeds and bouclés can bring, especially to a neutral toned outfit. It’s only taken me 30 years to realize the Chanel/cardigan cut of jacket is best on my body type! Whoever was bemoaning the petite situation, I feel you! It’s frustrating. Finally let me echo how stunning that brown tweed is on you Pamela!

  17. I’m a huge fan of tweed and love your outfit! My favorite tweed piece is a beige/gold metallic blazer I scored at Chico’s after last Christmas. It’s unlined, so good for Texas weather, and I can wear it over a tank top or turtleneck, depending on the weather. I wore it for the first time this season to take the grandcuties to The Nutcracker in Dallas, and felt just fancy enough. I may do some post-holiday shopping for another versatile piece, thanks to your inspiration!
