Sunday mornings at home

Sunday Mornings at Home

Hello, friends…welcome to Sunday mornings at home…my weekly lifestyle post.

I hope for this Sunday mornings at home, I find you well and comfy and pondering a good week past and a good week ahead.

Fiesta did not get the start that everyone wished as the opening ceremonies were washed out in a huge storm.

Nevertheless, it goes on in San Antonio this week with the river parade and largest parade in the country overseen by all women….The Battle of Flowers Parade.

So join me this morning as we have our own little celebration right here with a hodge podge of lifestyle topics.

First, my favorite banana bread recipe I have used for years.

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME:  BANANA BREAD

Sunday mornings at home

When I heard that my grandsons were coming for the weekend, I went to the kitchen.

They always want pumpkin bread ready for them…and this time I also added banana bread….because I saw three ripe bananas in the counter basket.

There was one time I did not have bread or cookies waiting and I paid for it…so never again…they will always have it here whenever they come.

When their parents were young, I made banana bread with the same recipe and it is still good today.

DELICIOUS BANANA BREAD

1 cup butter, softened

1 cup sugar

3 ripe bananas, mashed

2 beaten eggs

1 teaspoon real vanilla

2 1/2 cups flour

1/2 tsp. salt

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon soda

I use my Kitchen Aid Mixer, but you can easily make this bread by hand.  First I whisk together the dry ingredients and set aside. Then I put everything else in the mixer and mix it together well.

This is a one loaf recipe, so I put it in a loaf pan and cook for about 65 minutes at 350.

I watch my breads in the oven closely, because I do not want them overcooked and dry…moist is best.

One slice…as long as it is not too thick…is only 4 points on my Weight Watchers App.

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME:  MOTHER’S DAY

Sunday Mornings at Home

I laughed when I saw this coffee mug at my local Hallmark shop, because I remember those days very well.

Especially on school days…pour a cup and immediately get distracted.  But it is a way to remind us that Mother’s Day is on May 14.

So, this week I will share some gift ideas for the mothers and grandmothers in your families.

Sunday Mornings at Home

My daughter is an incredible mother of three young, very active boys.  She is doing an amazing job and we could not be more proud.

She loves James Avery Craftsman Jewelry, so naturally I went there first to find something she would enjoy.

These BEE HOOPS practically buzzed off the page.

I believe she will be super excited about them.

Every time I see her, she is either wearing a James Avery necklace, earrings or ring.

Take some time to look over the James Avery Mother’s Day Catalog and see if this quality Texas tradition has something for your moms.

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME:  SHOES

Sunday Mornings at Home

More than any other accessory, I get requests to show more shoes.

This BLACK FLORAL RAFFIA LOAFER is on sale right now at Chico’s.  I am more and more impressed with Chico’s shoes lately.

Several of you have asked to see more sandals with straps on the back…so here are a few for your consideration:

This week, I will show you what is in the box that I am really happy with…need to style them with a fun look.

Also, this week I will share the first of the wedding showers…what I wore and how it went.

This is why my family came to town…not just for homemade breads!

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME:  AFTER THE STORMS

Sunday Mornings at Home

We have experienced some storms lately with damaging winds, hail, small tornadoes.

However, after one storm which had me concerned for family out in it, I turned around and saw our lantana blooming.  That made me smile.

Family was safe…flowers are blooming…and I thanked God for the rain.

KEEP SMILING, FRIENDS!

  1. Nothing beats Sunday mornings at home, right?
Thank you for sharing that banana bread recipe.

  2. I love banana bread, make it often, and give away just to use up those old bananas. Hate to see them go to waste! I also often add 1/2 tsp. of ground cloves plus raisins and pecans. Just yesterday on the Chico’s Facebook page, the thought came up about what pretty shoes they now have, but that so many of us have problem feet that Chico’s is not addressing. Then there were many responses as to best shoes for problem feet, and/or ladies with knee problems. Vionic was one brand that many recommended, and you’ve included several in your slideshow. When I walked out to get my newspaper this morning, I too smiled at our lantana and gave a prayer of thanks for waking up another day.

  3. The small things are so special. It’s lovely that the boys know that their Gigi will always have pumpkin bread for them. Thanks for the sandal review: I need a pair of 1-inch (or so) black everyday sandals, and it’s a chore to think about it. I appreciate your ideas.

  4. I just got a new pair of sneakers … the Birkenstock Bend. They don’t look like Birkenstocks, and they have the stiffer sole the podiatrist recommended. But they are soft, supportive, and comfortable right out of the box. Roomy toe box, lots of laces for a more customized fit on the top of the foot than many sneakers. One of the best fashion sneakers (white leather and relatively sleek) that I’ve had in years.

  5. Ah. That is my banana bread recipe, too. Sometimes I add a handful of coconut into the batter or shake a little sugar over the top before it goes into the oven. If adds s sweet little crunch. Alas , it must add another point for WW counters. I hope the fiesta continues with better weather!

  6. I recently surveyed my sandals to see what needs replacing. The sandals slide show was just what I needed. So many cute options. Thanks for doing the shopping for me.

  7. Thanks for sharing, Celia. I have several Vionic shoes that make my feet happy!

  8. My grandsons do not like it with nuts or anything added…they are basic guys. So I always keep the breads without additions. Thanks Deborah.

  9. Thanks to the cool rainy weather in North Texas today, I actually got to read your Sunday morning post while it is still Sunday morning! Thanks so much for compiling the sandal options. I see at least two that I think may work for me. One is a pair of Vionics I’ve had my eye on since last summer. I was hoping they would go on sale, but apparently the Kaytie style is so popular in my area it remains normal price throughout the year. The Dearfoams in olive green would also be a great addition to my summer wardrobe – I’ve been looking for that color for several months. So sorry the weather dampened the kick off for Fiesta, but here’s hoping it improves throughout the week. I hope it did not disrupt the shower in any way, and I’m looking forward to your recap.

  10. The banana bread recipe sounds simple & delicious. Those Chicos shoes are cute & look like they would be good for my feet. I have arthritis in my big toe joint where it joins the foot, & some flats hit right on that spot. Very painful! With all the homes damaged or destroyed by the recent storms, I have a new perspective on house cleaning. I am thankful that I have a house to clean. Eager to see the photos of the shower. Enjoy the Fiesta!

  11. Just finished editing the luncheon pictures and the weather was perfect. Will have them up tomorrow.
