Style Tips: A neutral linen suit

style tips

Happy Saturday, fashion stylist friends!  Welcome to today’s style tips challenge….a neutral linen suit.

Just to refresh your memory….Jennifer and I have retired Would You Wear It for now, and ask that you put on a fashion stylist or fashion merchandiser hat.

Look over our displays and tell us how you would style the look of the day.

We are learning great ideas from each other…so let’s keep it going.

Time to get started…..

STYLE TIPS: A NEUTRAL LINEN SUIT

I saw this display in the Women’s department at our local J. Crew Outlet.

This blazer was not lined.  I only point that out because most of the blazers online at J. Crew are lined.

The pants have a tie front and elastic waist.

Once again…you can give your thoughts as a fashion stylist; fashion merchandiser; or as someone who would wear the suit….or all three if you like!

We love to hear your ideas!

I have some similar pieces here to help you ponder your decisions:

One of the tip selling items on my blog last week, was the JJILL LINEN-BLEND SWEATER KNIT SHRUG.

I want to show you that on the website, at the top right, you will see a button for Ways to Style…JJILL has style tips right there for you.

Also, a big seller was the Authentic Fit Slim-Leg Jeans….I am waiting on my pair to arrive.

And the Talbot’s Shirt Jacket continues to sell well…..you like the one I wear in Sandstone, but there are other colors.

  1. I like the classy look of a suit. It would be great for church, a nice dinner out or a concert at the symphony…..and so many more occasions. I would put a colorful collared shirt with it, perhaps a coral or spring green. A black tee would be pretty with black slingbacks. So many possibilities with the neutral color.

  2. This is great and much easier to wear than a white suit . Like Marcia I would put a contrasting top with it if worn as a 2-piece but each piece would also be good with for the jacket a skirt/dress , for the pants a frilled shirt . Almost any bright or dark colour would look good with it – or a print !

  3. That suit needs a black v neck t-shirt and a short necklace. I would reach for pearls and small earrings. Happy Saturday!

  4. I’d break up the suit, although its very nice as is. For a change is wear the tie front pant with a simple black tee along with a simple gold chain necklace and stack gold tone bracelets.
With the blazer I might wear with checked trouser -pant in tan, cinnamon and pale beige plaid or checks to match the blazer. Just a little different!

  5. I think that a “suit like this can be a really versatile. With a graphic tee for casual wear, a solid color tee for casual wear, a white tee and colorful jewelry. For a more sophisticated take with a solid black tank or tee and beige and black espadrilles (just got a pair from TB) and gold jewelry. A nice choice.

  6. Happy Saturday. I would not style these pieces together. I do like the blazer and I think it could be worn over just about anything. It would be long & slouchy on me so I would roll up the sleeves. I’d especially like it with jeans and a plain tee shirt though I can see it with white pants just as easily. Its a great neutral classic. I would remove the tie from the pants. I would probably not tuck but if someone else was tucking I would recommend a belt of some kind to hide the elastic. A long scarf can do the trick and give a softer look and I would recommend trying that. The ties could be used to make belt loop if someone wanted. I’d pair them with a crocheted or other open weave sweater that hits at the waist, with a cami under of course. Any color works with neutral. If the pants were mine I’d either crop them or roll them up. I’d add simple accessories for a laid back look. I would not recommend the aloha tee. This was fun.

  7. A neutral linen suit is a great warm weather basic. I’d style it with a blouse, light sweater or t-shirt (not the one in the display). Could be worn with sandals, mules, etc. The jacket and pants could be worn separately with jeans, skirts (jacket) or pants with a tunic, sweater, etc.

  8. Needs color, so I say bright solid tank under the jacket with same color shoes, bag, jewelry, scarf….I believe this would take the eye away from the inevitable wrinkles….red, royal blue, the new oranges and pinks that are fresh this spring.

  9. Like several other ladies have said, I would wear these pieces as separates. The jacket I prefer is picture #9 in your carousel, the more tailored Talbot’s choice. I really like the look in their display which pairs the linen jacket with a white jean, and then any color shirt beneath, including either the linen tone or the white for a column. As to the linen draw-string waist pants, I would enhance the casual feel of these: a racerback tank tucked in so the waist is highlighted, with a breezy kimono/topper whose print would coordinate to the tank color. Casual saddle toned sandals, some dark classic shaped sunglasses, a 1 inch or larger hoop earring, and done!

  10. This suit does need color, I’d go for a vibrant fuchsia silk t-shirt or tank top with wide straps. Not sure if I’d actually pair the blazer and pants together. I’d keep the pants paired with the Aloha t-shirt with some bright chunky jewelry and some espadrilles. The blazer with maybe light pink jeans and sling back flats, to go with the fuchsia top..this was fun…..

  11. I’d most likely break the suit into separates. I would not add bright colors, I’d go with low contrast and a soft color. Possible pink, or white. I’d wear the pants with white sneakers to dress it down and toss the jacket over white jeans.

  12. I also would separate the jacket from the pants. I like to see rose gold jewelry on a blush silk or linen top with the jacket. The pants are more casual and the button shirt next to the mannequin in coral gauze Would look good only tucked in. Fine gold hoop earrings and white sneakers or sandals in nude, a straw bag and ready to roll.
