Summer fashion neutrals on trend again

neutrals on trend

Happy official start to summer 2024!  Today, I want to discuss how summer fashion neutrals (are) on trend…again!

A few years ago we were inundated with summer fashion neutrals on trend called the Coastal Grandmother Style and inspired by a Diane Keaton movie.

Many women over 50 embraced this style and I would guess still love it.

So, I particularly took notice recently when I friend went shopping in New York City last week.

Allow me to share…..

SUMMER FASHION NEUTRALS ON TREND AGAIN: ON FIFTH AVENUE

She was taken with the fashion merchandising windows and knew I would love to see them.

So, she began to text images of the windows to me…I do apologize that these are not better quality.

I noted that different retailers all were styling summer neutrals…and this to me would indicate a trend.

The windows were not done in bright summer colors with beach balls, swimsuits and crashing waves.

But, rather, they are decorated in styles to easily conclude we see summer neutrals on trend again.

Even in these pictures, there is something quite captivating about the summer neutrals on trend.

I am not missing the traditional summer colors at all in these designs.

I even like how the neutrals on trend look in the Louis Vuitton window with a colorful background.

Saks included both in their window, but to me the really colorful dress is a sore thumb among the neutrals on trend.

All this to say that I was motivated by the neutrals on trend as I styled a look for my closet to go out this week.

SUMMER FASHION NEUTRALS ON TREND AGAIN: MY NEUTRAL LOOK

After seeing the windows, I was motivated to head into my closet before going out and look for neutrals on trend.

You have seen these pieces before, but this is the first time I styled them together.

This is the LINEN BLEND STRETCH STRIPE BLAZER from Chico’s …this is the one with the thin gold metallic thread in the stripe. (This is a 3, and I maybe should’ve purchased a 2.5) I like it, though!

The shoes are the off white CLARKS COLLECTION LEATHER SLIDE SANDALS REILEIGH MAY on QVC.

Everything else is from Dillard’s, and I have worn often…love these pieces.

The BRYN WALKER Light Linen Wide-Leg Pull-On Long Full Length Pants are oversized, so I tried on a medium and really liked them.

They come in white and black and the linen is very nice and holds up well.

The Eileen Fisher Peruvian Organic Cotton Crepe V-Neck Cap Sleeve Button-Front Boxy Sweater

I love this top in the bone color so much and wear it often…it is lightweight and very flattering to wear.

Nordstrom also carried this Eileen Fisher sweater.   Another thing I like about it, is that I can wear it all year long.

I showed you this necklace on Tuesday, and I do think it is a great buy for $25. Southern Living Disc Pendant Pearl Long Strand Necklace

This is one style I will be wearing for certain to celebrate the summer neutrals on sale.

SHOUT OUT TO LAND’S END:

I want to say…good work…to Land’s End.  They have upgraded their website and styles.  I have several in today’s feature slideshow for the neutrals on trend!

Here are neutral selections I believed would interest you:

Thank you for joining me on this first day of summer!  Looking forward to what you think of summer neutrals on trend again. Until then…

  1. Hi Pamela
Hey this is really nice! A fresh take for me in regards to summer. I’m usually in all the brights. This year I might try something different, using your post as a guide. The neutrals are soothing and have a smart look to them. Thank you for reminding me about Lands End! Their prices are really good and the styles are steady on. Great post! Cheers to an awesome summer 2024! 😊

  2. I have always liked neutrals for summer, as somehow they seem to feel cooler to wear. I am also wearing olive as a neutral this summer and fall, and there is a lot of it available right now. Thanks for all the great options you’ve shown us today. I love the striped linen blazer on you, and it was so much fun to see the window displays! I miss the days when all the department stores did window displays, but these are some great ones. So many good ideas.

  3. Neutrals often seem to include creams and beiges which do not uplift me. I do love white, however. In the summer I’m mostly in stripes with white and another color.

  4. White is perhaps the main neutral…if there is such a thing. Enjoy wearing your white, Linlee.

  5. Be still my heart … I adore neutrals and wear a lot of them all year long. That includes olive, which I would say is a mini-trend off the big green trend, because I’ve never had so many options in it for summer as this year. The slideshow was great. A mild caution with Lands End … I love their swimwear, but other items have inconsistent sizing, and they charge for returns. When you hit it right, the quality is great for the price. I’m so glad you picked up that gold striped blazer. I love it, and you rocked it.

  6. Thanks for sharing your experience with Lands End, Linda. That is very helpful to know…and thanks about this blazer…I really have enjoyed adding it to my wardrobe.

  7. I have mixed feelings on this. As much as I love color, if every summer we get coral and turquoise in retail, it’s a big yawn. For me, it takes a little more effort to go with neutrals, but I think they look very chic.

  8. My poor, patient husband took pics of me in every outfit I thought about taking to France next week, and I have to say, the neutrals were the winners. Very classic and cool. So I’m taking black, cream and olive pants, with tops that go with (navy, stripe, white, black, etc.) and a couple of dresses, black and polka dot white/ black. The turquoise top and printed tops just looked too garish, while I might wear them here, they had limited wear power in a trip. I will probably be bored with everything once it’s time to go home, but if it’s critical, I’ll go to Sezanne and shop!

  9. I hope this isn’t a repeat. I got bounced off again.
Anyway this is a shorter version.
I’m considered a summer but don’t like the colors. I’m really glad to see the neutral colors and I feel most comfortable in neutrals.

  10. There you go…shop in France? Yes. I think you will be very chic in your neutrals to visit France.

  11. I have never been a huge fan of summer colors…I guess that is the autumn-girl in me. so I understand how you feel, Paula.

  12. In the heat & humidity of summer, neutrals or lighter colors make me feel cooler than the tropical brights we so often see in summer. I love red & wear it often, but when the heat really hits, I prefer white or pale pink. I recently purchased a light mint green top & find it pairs well with most of my skorts & pants. Since I am a winter, the bright citrus colors don’t really flatter me anyway.

  13. I guess one of my style adjectives would have to be “sophisticated”. I feel more sophisticated in neutrals. I think it’s much harder to be sophisticated in color. Probably not impossible, but trickier. Perhaps better quality fabrics and tailoring? Perhaps smaller doses of color as in shoes, handbags or scarves?

  14. Staying cool is everything right now…thanks for sharing how you do it.

  15. One of my favorite looks for summer is a pale khaki capri worn with a white blouse. I am jealous of Susan’s trip! I hope she has a wonderful time and will maybe share about it when she returns. Happy Summer!! 🤸‍♀️🌻🌞

  16. Neutrals, especially the lighter ones have a fresh and cool feeling in the summer. I’m a fan though I struggle to find off whites that are warm enough for me. I still wear white pants and love to pair them with beige and pale khaki colored tops. I love the linen blazer you are wearing and hope to find something like that but in a shorter length. I tried it on and I’m not tall enough to wear it. It looks great on you though. Interesting that olive is having its moment. Its one of my best neutrals year round so I am watching for pieces. And I really enjoyed the photos of the NYC windows. Remember Rhoda? I wanted her job. LOL.
