Sunday reflections
Happy Sunday, everyone! Welcome to the weekly lifestyle post, now called Sunday Reflections.
This is the day I will reflect on what is happening in my world and hopefully share some inspiration and encouragement.
8 days! In eight days, the movers show up to pack household goods. Am I ready? Nope…not there yet… but farther along than Mr. B!
I am enjoying capturing moments around my home in pictures; such as, the acorns covering our backyard.
I was able to pay three grandchildren to pick up a large amount and they even had fun doing it.
Do any of you remember making artwork with acorns? I made a lady in one picture I distinctly remember, and shared the Idea with one of my DILS…I have fond memories of it.
With my Sunday Reflections, let’s begin with the seasons before us.
SUNDAY REFLECTIONS: FROM YOUR HOUSE TO MINE
Last week in Summer Sundays in Texas, I discussed setting an hors d’œuvre table before dinner.
The next day, a member of this blog community, Marcia, sent a couple of ideas…sadly, I did have difficulty receiving all of the photos. (the first one is from Marcia).
Marcia said,
The photo attached is a simple fruit and cheese table. We like to keep it simple, since a hearty meal usually follows. This table has a platter with grapes and blackberries in the middle, with cheese cubes on either side. Then I add bowls of crackers, sliced mango, and mixed nuts. The table can be decorated with a pretty bottle and one of my favorite cookbooks. My daughter makes a “bacon and eggs” appetizer. It is crisp strips of bacon on a plate with deviled eggs on the side.
Marcia…thank you so much for sharing ideas,
Since, we are entering fall and the holiday season, I would like to get back to this with all of you.
Last year, some of you sent your seasonal home decor and favorite recipes and I would share them on Sundays. It was so great to get ideas from everyone and see how you celebrate the seasons in your home.
So, let’s do it again! Please send any photos with a brief explanation to over50feeling40@gmail.com.
Whenever, I am able to get set up in my new home, I will return Pamela’s Kitchen…I plan to do lots of cooking for my family.
SUNDAY REFLECTIONS: MOVING UPDATE
My office is the biggest room remaining for me to clean out.
I am not packing…just purging. And the purge has felt good…despite an occasional twinge of emotions.
I am getting a little concerned about how much we will be putting in our cars. We are each driving a car out of town.
But, I will reflect on that another day.
This week, I also put away summer clothing and most of it was linen.
I have maybe three items of nice linen I wear in the early fall when it is still warm, but everything else has been packed away.
It is more important to me to put linen away than light denim. I still have some of that hanging in my closet.
Everything hanging on a wall comes down this week…and like everything else, they all hold stories for me.
My dear friend, Gail, painted this picture for me from one of the photos I took at at Neiman Marcus fashion show.
It has been hanging right by my desk and I plan for it to still hang right by my desk when I set up my new office.
I do need to speed up with only eight days away, but I have enjoyed thinking about everything I own and why it is special to me.
That leads me to this place………………….
SUNDAY REFLECTIONS: TIME WITH JUST ME & MY HOME
One day last week in the early morning sunrise, I spent time alone with my home.
I think it was so important that I do this…it was mostly a time of prayer and thanksgiving.
Tux sat on the stairs and watched me, but I was sitting in one of my favorite spots and looked up at the three bedrooms on the second floor.
At one time, my three children would run out of those rooms when I called for breakfast.
Now, my grandchildren will run out of those rooms when their mom and my son call them. What an amazing gift from God!
I prayed for their safety in the house…on the stairs…and on the balcony that is open out of one bedroom.
I prayed for the Holy Spirit to fill the home with His joy..laughter..and song.
Speaking of song…this house has the best acoustics and since I love to sing when alone…I will miss the acoustics so much!
I prayed for them to be as content there as we have been.
I realize we still own the house, but I know it will never be my home again.
I am so thankful for this house and all it has meant to our family. I love that there was laughter in the walls.
Now, that I have said good-bye to my house, I can turn my thoughts to the land of cowboys.
My daughter sent me this photo recently…who drives with their pony in the back seat?
Last time we were there, we learned that a popular couples date is to go hog hunting together…not going to happen, but I still believe I can have a good time.
Thank you for joining me today in Sunday Reflections…tomorrow I have another try-on session for you with me and Karen. Until then…..

May your reflections continue to fill your heart with joy. My husband and I have moved at least 10 times, and usually when we would leave a town, we would buy a piece of original art. It is a lovely way to go back in time and reflect on what that home gave us and hope that the family living there now is as happy as we were. I hope as you finish packing and drive out town that your bittersweet memories turn into your zest for your upcoming adventure. How lucky you are to be able to think of your son’s family moving in as you head to a home near your daughter’s. We are lucky to be living in the beach town that I grew up in, and subsequently my children grew up in. It was a summer house then, but now it is a winter version of that cottage and on the same plot. My three kids love visiting and we are a short walk to the beach. I feel blessed. Family is everything. Good luck during this final week of preparation. It is wonderful to know that you will be back to your present home and it will be fun to see what transformation will happen to the house. Your son and his family must be thrilled to be moving in. (By the way, thank you for yesterday’s blog on athleisure clothing. I had been scouting those brands.)
Family is everything and like you, Deborah, I am blessed.
So glad you enjoyed yesterday’s post.
Happy Sunday!
Hi, Pam. You are so wise to spend time reflecting on your home and praying for the new occupants (your beautiful family). A whole new adventure awaits you! Keep singing wherever you are. Happy Sunday.
You seem to have arrived at a good place. Now you have said your good-byes and will move forward and enjoy getting to know your new hometown. I’m visiting my grandson and didn’t get a chance to comment on yesterday’s post. I like elevated athleisure a lot and wear it frequently, usually mixing in one or two pieces with jeans or a sweater. For softness and a beautiful drape in a slightly heavier material, I would recommend the Coaster Luxe items (also Salutation for lighter wear) from Athleta. Their Endless pants can be worn with virtually anything.
Thank you, Marcia. I will…singing is a part of who I am.
Thanks so much, Linda. I knew the elevated athleisure wearers were in this community!
My husband loves deviled eggs!
I thought I was alone so I was singing I will always love u by Whitney Houston. Boy was I embarrassed when my sister in law popped out !
Happy packing!!
Your puppy is soo cute!!! 😍
Thanks Debra…I sing for all…got over a long time ago being embarrassed about it! Just sing!
Thank you…we adore him!
Hi Pam! Just a thought – donate the acorns to the local wildlife rescue. Their squirrels love them! Wishing you all the happiness in your new move.
Hi Lisa, I did not know they wanted acorn donations. Thanks for sharing!
I admire you Pam! I’m trying to insert myself in a move of this type and cannot fathom how everything would ever get it accomplished in so little time. You are amazing!
Your positivity shines on!
Thank you, Paulette! I have spent this morning shredding, tossing and making another donation pile. Getting closer with each action.
It’s hard to move but at least you know where you are going and your house in San Antonio will be where you family will make their memories there.
One day at a time. That has always been my motto when having to move. You can do it! You will enjoy the transformation of your home into your grandchildren’s home. When you visit them they will have fun sharing all of their favorite things in their home. Good luck on the shredding and tossing and making donations. Keep singing!
It is so beautiful that you spent time in thanksgiving & prayer for the home that holds so many precious memories for you & your family. It spoke to my heart.
After emptying my living room for its refresh, I have been very selective about what is going back into it. I love the memories, but this is a fresh start for me as well as the room. It is part of my moving forward into this new season of my life.
Always singing, Sydney! Thank you!
God has blessed us! Thanks Paula!
It’s hard to move and even harder when so many memories were made in the house you are leaving. You are wise to imagine the memories your son’s family will be making there. Even though it won’t be the same you’ll still be sharing family time where your memories were made. Good luck with the final moving prep. You have great new adventures ahead.
And I think that is very important, Becky! I will enjoy sharing moves forward with you!
Thanks so much, Kathie. I love the church sign you sent so much that it is on the post again today…really blessed me. I am looking forward to those new memories ahead! Thank you.
