Announcing New “Style Tips Fridays Feature”

Happy Thursday, ladies!  You asked for it…and I have it…Announcing a New Style Tips Friday Feature!

After reading this week about how many of you want the return of the old Would You Wear It, but focused more on style tips…I decided not to wait.

I am introducing this new feature today in order to discuss a bit what went awry and how we can avoid those pitfalls this time when the blog goes live tomorrow.

I believe it is important that we focus on the style tips and not the original question from the older posts.

Every Friday, I will bring you a fashion display and ask…How Would You Style It? and Where Would You Wear It?

If YOU would not wear what you see, then style it for a pretend friend or family member and suggest where they could wear it.

Here’s why…..

ANNOUNCING NEW STYLE TIPS FRIDAYS FEATURE: KINDNESS REQUIRED

style tips

Note:  I promise NOT to post displays that are this jarring to the eye!  LOL!

However, no matter what I post, remember…Almost always some like what they see, and some do not.

Please CHOOSE YOUR WORDS CAREFULLY as not to shut down the conversation.

For example, if you say…THIS GARMENT IS SO FRUMPY NO STYLE TIP WILL SAVE IT…that may discourage, or even anger a woman who likes it.

This is what happened before…some styles just brought out the worst in a few people.

style tips

Also, displays may represent a variety of price points and not be all designer…like this woman enjoys wearing.

I love to give style tips on anything…even thrift…so be creative and helpful with your ideas.

I will do my very best…though I live in a smaller town now…to find interesting displays and Ideas for you to discuss.

What I love about a style tips feature is that we can learn so much from one another and get ideas we may not have considered before.

And if you see a display in your town that you would like to be featured and discussed, then just send your image to over50feeling40@gmail.com with the subject FOR STYLE TIPS FRIDAY.

I love field reporters!!

ANNOUNCING NEW STYLE TIPS FRIDAYS FEATURE: SO I HEADED OUT THAT DAY

style tips

So that day, I headed over to the mall to Dillard’s.

The visit was a spring breath of fresh air and I found several displays for consideration.

First, I met a few of the ladies I first met in the Western Fashion Show.  They are a fun, bubbly crew.

The Dillard’s manager in Abilene, Yesica, is to the left.

style tips

Here is one petite model excited about the outfit she found in the A loves A collection.

This is a youthful collection with sizes for women and girls (I saw a couple of items my oldest granddaughter would look lovely wearing).

style tips

So, let’s practice for tomorrow!

What style tips do you have for this jacket…how would you style it and where would you wear it?

This is the Floral Woven Notch Lapel Long Sleeve Button Front Mid Length Coordinating Blazer.

Our over 50 model today liked it with the Woven Floral High Rise Pleated Front Trouser Coordinating Shorts.

If you do not like this look, how can you comment without offending women who do like it?

Or suggest style tips for those who like it….I am certain that professional stylists do not like every garment they are tasked to style for clients.

style tips

Dillard’s Is blooming with lovely spring colors like you see in the Brahmin bags.

And it was a fun journey to look for some of our first displays.

I also have displays from two other places….yes, I have been very busy since the conversation thread on Tuesday!

I think this can be lots of fun and I am excited that you wanted to see it return.

Respect, Kindness and Creativity will help to keep this new STYLE TIPS FRIDAY FEATURE around for a long time….

I look forward to reading today, your style tips for the jacket, or for the jacket + shorts spring outfit.

Leave any thought you have as we prepare to begin tomorrow with a new STYLE TIPS FRIDAY FEATURE.

See you then…until then…

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. That jacket! I wish it had been available a while back: I would have worn it to a wedding, with long ivory wide trousers and ivory cami.

  2. I would pair the jacket with a light rose or olive cami or more substantial top and ivory dressy slacks. I would also keep the jewelry simple and gold or rose-toned. Plus dressy flats or a low heel, perhaps with a metallic sheen.

  3. That jacket is showpiece! I would find a pair of slim slacks in the darkest russet of the jacket, russet booties with elongated toes, and probably minimal gold jewelry. Fun for a bit of drama.

  4. Love, love, beautiful green top, so soft and flowing. I love the jacket. I enjoy clothes that are this versatile. Sometimes you can dress it up or down. “statement pieces”! keep up the great ideas

  5. Love the cheerful colors!. Add linen pants, in neutral, or any of the colors in the jacket. Depending on the jacket fabric pink jeans, with heels,

  6. At first I wasn’t fond of the jacket but when I looked at it rather than just scroll past I changed my mind. I really like it and I would wear it with a nice pair of jeans. It would really dress up that outfit.
This is a great exercise to look at something and be open to how to style something.

  7. Great concept! I’ll play. My tall friend, Lynn, is going to wear this fun jacket with several combinations. She’s going to Florida and will pair this with ivory fray hem ankle jeanss and a yellow tank top, ivory open toe espadrilles. She had a straw hat with a bright red scarf tied around it and will accent the outfit with red earring and bracelet, red sunglasses. When she comes back home she plans to also wear it with olive slim ankle pants with a matching tank for a column of color, nude ballet flats and gold jewelry for a dressier look for church or out to dinner. A slightly younger version of me is going wear those darling shorts. I’m an autumn so I have tees and tanks in red, yellow and olive green. All will work for me. The younger me lived in a resort town so the shorts will go anywhere in the summer with simple sandals, a visor and minimal jewelry. I truly love those shorts and its a shame to hide them under a long jacket.

  8. I think so too, Paula…I hope we can all share our ideas in respectful ways…and, you know what? I believe we can.

  9. I agree on those shorts…I wish I could wear them…they are so cute. Thanks for playing along…I love how you did this, Kathie and believe it will encourage others to do the same.

  10. How fun that you’re bringing this back! I’d wear this jacket with a high-low pink ruffled skirt 😉

  11. The jacket is beautiful I could see the jacket with a nice pair of jeans, jewelry and a pair heels for a special date night

  12. I could see this jacket over a column of pale pink; pink slacks and a pink silk top. I would accessorize it with rattan or woven low heels and a matching purse. It would be ready for Easter services or a bridal or baby shower.

  13. I love this jacket, even though it’s not in my wheelhouse. The sleeves looked very long, so I would skip the bracelet and add I think only bold, gold button style earrings. A column of color in ivory (ivory jeans) or lean into a cotton yellow tank with ivory jeans. Straw espadrilles and a straw bag with some structure so it doesn’t look like a blob when worn so close to all that print. For ladies with longer hair, I think this jacket screams for hair to be worn up. Interestingly, when first looking at the jacket, I saw it as rather dressed up (gold jewelry, gold sandals, flowy fabrics), and decided to see if I could make it casual. And it goes there easily, making it quite a versatile piece. I think because it’s structured. I have no idea where I’d ever wear it with the matching shorts, so I’m glad we are working with just the jacket today. I used to really love these posts, and especially like the accessories people “choose.”

  14. I love both jacket and shorts but would style them separately. The jacket needs a simple bottom and would look gorgeous with a long flowing skirt in a color pulled from the jacket design, with some gold scrappy sandals. The shorts would be fun with a soft wrapped top with flutter sleeves in a lighter gold or olive that goes with but doesn’t compete with the shorts design. Gold bangle bracelets, hoop earrings and jeweled flat sandals would be fun.

  15. I think we are going to have a great time this round…I have high hopes and love your style tips here.

  16. Lots of good suggestions. I’m going to just add the shorts with a simple cap sleeve top in any of short’s colours and a gold chain with a floral pendant with your gold loafers or sneakers would be perfect to wear on a garden tour! Lovely to think about with our 6 foot snow drifts outside.

  17. Thus jacket is indeed cheerful and versatile! I do see it paired with light jeans- white or ivory, straight leg or wider leg. I could see it with my nutmeg-colored jeans! Love it!
    It can be worn anywhere!

  18. Beautiful jacket! I would love to see the jacket paired with matching ankle pants instead of the shorts. I recently bought some ivory pointed toe flats with clear jewels on the toes. I would wear those with an ivory cami and simple gold jewelry. This is perfect for a spring wedding, graduation or vacations.

  19. oh, I see the much younger me in my “hot pants” suit going to the design mart in San Francisco with my mil….
The jacket appears to have a fuller cut, which could overwhelm more petite ladies, therefore today I would wear it with slim fitting darker olive jeans, a blush pink boatneck tee and olive green woven ballet flats. I would then pull out old costume jewelry and add fairly large, fun yellow floral earrings. And maybe, especially if I were going somewhere, like work, where I might take the jacket off, I would add a simple olive green necklace.
Love this exercise!! Sure hope we get to keep it. Wonderful fun ideas that I would never come up with. Thank you for taking a chance on us!

  20. Due to the “slightly oversized fit” I would treat this top as a blazer leaving it unbuttoned/rusch up its sleeves and not to be overwhelmed in fabric, pair it with a slim cut/slightly tapered bottom. That being said; if colors were compatible for a casual look with that I already have in my wardrobe a) I would pair it with a current pair of yellow/slim cut/just above the ankle pants b) a moss green/ slightly scoop- neck T-Shirt c) flat cognac/russett strappy leather sandals and their unstructured/ co-ordinated/small scale c/body bag. (Otherwise, a shoulder or tote would work as well.) Whereas for a more refined/dress up look; I would seek a similar design in bottoms but choose them in the natural or a green with a co-ordinated/plain/fitted camisole top perhaps in a silk (or similar sheen). Footwear would consist of a low heeled sandal or dress kitten heel or pump with a matching/structured clutch or hand bag in either color wave. For jewelry, I would keep it to a minimum. i.e.: Earrings, bracelet or even a watch band that give a nod to the burgundy in the pattern. -Brenda-

  21. As I am traveling, I am looking at the wonderful ideas from different style personalities. To dress this down a bit more casually, let’s say for my class reunion, I love the idea of slim ivory jeans, wedge espadrilles that matched the darker aspect of the design, and a flowy cream top. I would wear my straw fedora and straw earrings. I love Brahmin bags, but I would have to find one in a darker color. That display was beautiful though!

  22. Because this jacket is a statement piece, I would keep everything simple. I would style it with brown or cream pants. I would put the brown pants with a cream tank & the cream pants with a deeper color like olive or russet. Nude shoes, simple gold jewelry & a small handbag to finish it off. I would let the jacket take center stage. I love those pretty pastel Brahim bags. Spring is in the air!

  23. Yes it is…I like that many have styled this jacket with warmer colors in mind! Thanks Becky!

  24. Well, this just flashed and lost my ideas! Not happy when this happens. I use Chrome and delete history every time I use your site. I love this idea and will go completely with Linda L on the column of pale pink. As my color palette is cool, this blazer would look great open and showing off the sunny look for a special event. Gold jewelry and nude flats, sandals or Mary Jane’s.

  25. Styling this is a bit of a challenge for me because it’s not my style but here goes. I could see this on a tall slender woman with warm coloring paired with a cream sleeveless shift dress, sleeves pushed up, collar popped wearing nude pumps and a gold chain necklace. The shorts I could see with a cream tank with some crochet details around the neck and paired with a collarless jean jacket with frayed hem also with sleeves pushed up. I would add a straw crossbody purse and nude sandals. This is an interesting exercise in getting those with a different style to think outside the box.

  26. That’s it Sonja! No need to say why it doesn’t work for you…just how you would style it for someone else…

  27. Well, this is so much fun! I would wear straight leg olive green pants with the jacket. And a gold colored shell under the jacket. Shoes would be my 60’s inspired white “go-go” boots. Wow!!!

  28. Hi Pam, so glad to see this back. I have a Bloom Bash fundraiser to attend in April. If I owned the jacket I would wear it over an EF spaghetti strap dress that I own in the same green that is in the jacket. Rolled sleeves because that is what I do, no necklace just fun earrings and cream tennis shoes with little flowers painted on them. To me, that would be an appropriate, comfortable outfit to wear to an early cocktail party where the dress code is Bloom attire. The jacket is perfect for this event!

  29. I would style the floral jacket with moss green chinos and brown loafers. It’s not my style but it’s very pretty!
