2025 Fashion Trends: Gingham

2025 fashion trends

Happy Saturday, ladies!  Welcome to the weekly 2025 Fashion Trends with today featuring Gingham.

The 2025 fashion trends are focusing on gingham in big ways this year…and it is always fresh for spring and summer outfits.

According to a site called the FABRIC GODMOTHER,

The name Gingham can be traced back to the Malay word genggang meaning separate, or striped. Gingham first appeared in England via the Dutch in the 17th Century. Originally it was a woven striped fabric but in the mid-18th century production in Manchester changed to the now recognisable checked design. Traditionally gingham was woven in cotton and the yarn was dyed before the fabric was woven. By using the same 2 colors on both the warp and weft you get the recognisible 3 tone checked design we now call gingham.

Since gingham is in the 2025 fashion trends, we find more colors this year and more accessories.

I selected just a few for you to see and enjoy….

The first photo is from Tuckernuck and is THE SHIRT BY ROCHELLE BEHRENS in sky blue denim.

And, also at Tuckernuck, you have to love a gingham top called THE PAMELA SHIRT!

So, let’s enjoy more of gingham in the 2025 Fashion Trends and start our time today with spring breezes blowing here…

  1. Ahhh, gingham! Have always been special to me. At least 65 years ago when I first was learning to sew, I made a gingham dress and worked crisscross on the hem and sleeves. Some years later when choosing bridesmaids dresses to go with the daisy bouquets I chose a yellow gingham. I’m happy to see it coming back into the fashion scene because, like you said, it makes me smile too.

  2. The thought of your bridesmaids with daisies makes me smile! Thanks for sharing, Celia!

  3. Oh, my goodness! What a fun spring post. I love all of these items. Nothing says fresh and springy like gingham. Those two shirts at the beginning are gorgeous. I might have to get that Quince dress. Happy Spring, everyone!! 🌼

  4. Gingham always looks fresh and cool. It’s a hard one for me, because many designs are also very feminine, which is not my style. And simpler designs in the brights I favor (pastels wash me out) can look like a picnic tablecloth on me. I think I would like a simple camp shirt or an accessory or two. I have the Margot flats from Vivaia in almond, and they are wonderful for travel. Super light, comfortable, go with literally everything from shorts or yoga pants to an LBD. I’ve even worn them to the spa when cruising. Like you pointed out, the gingham is almost sold out, but there are other lovely patterns.

  5. Talbots also offfers a pretty orange gingham this spring; I’ll be purchasing that one to go with my three navy/white and one black/white shirts. Celia made me smile at the thought of yellow gingham and daisies at her wedding!

  6. I’ve always loved gingham for spring and summer. Its so fresh and happy. Celia’s post reminded me that I also made my first dress with gingham. In the 7th grade I made a white sundress dress with gingham trim on the bodice and appliqued on the skirt. Nice to see it having a day again. Last year I bought 2 pr of gingham crops and a lime gingham linen shirt. I think black with white or tan looks especially sharp though it doesn’t work for me. That red shirt caught my eye. I’ll keep watching Quince to see if they add any other gingham in the linen line. I really like their linen. Thanks, Pamela, for a breath of spring today.

  7. I had the cutest gingham top and skirt combo back in the 90s. I have regretted not keeping it over the years. Not sure I can carry off the look with my white hair, but I sure would add some gingham flats or sneakers to my spring to summer outfits.

  8. I predict the gingham shoe trend will be very short lived lol. The D&B gingham purses are darling!

  9. I adore gingham and am always on the lookout to add something new each spring. I have two of the D&B satchels, navy/white and red/white, which see a lot of wear all summer. Only have a couple summer shirts, but splurged several seasons ago on two sets of tankini suits from Lands’ End, a sky blue/white, and a red/white. They may seem a bit youthful for this 61 year old, but when I’m at the pool, that’s exactly how I feel. 😁
    Happy Saturday!

  10. I think Celia and I have shared memories of gingham sundresses with cap sleeves so they could be worn to school. No pants allowed when I was still in high school. Graduated in 1962. I enjoyed sewing with gingham but I couldn’t wear yellow. Still can’t but daisies and yellow gingham sounds like spring. I love the blue shirt in gingham. That is more my style now with mostly white hair instead of ash blonde. Do those almond Viviana Mary Jane’s have a good arch support?

  11. I like gingham for blouses. I have, pink, navy and black with white, of course. I also like wearing a white cardigan when the gingham blouse needs something for warmth on a cooler day

  12. Maybe someone else could help with your question, Sydney…I have not tried this shoe.

  13. Gingham always says “spring” to me, and you’ve found some great options! As Linda LM said, many of these designs are too feminine for my taste, but it’s fun to see them and to find inspiration in some of the more tailored looks. I really like the black and ivory Quince top, which I can see wearing with cropped pants or longer shorts. My favorite piece is the brown Tuckernuck gingham dress and if I can figure out the sizing I plan to order one through your link. That looks like an effortless summer look that could easily go from church to the farmer’s market to a grandchild’s sports event with just a quick change of accessories, and the color is fantastic for us “autumns.” I also like the green option, but the background looks white instead of ivory. Just an FYI for anyone interested in yesterday’s gold pantsuit from JCPenney, I actually bought that in store yesterday, and will add my take on the fit, fabric and styling in yesterday’s comments for clarity. Spring is generally my least favorite fashion season, but Pam is coming up with so many irresistible options for us this year!

  14. Gingham was always a favorite in junior high. I remember my girlfriend and I making gingham granny dresses for a theme party. As an adult, summer always meant black and white gingham pants. Alas, I no longer wear black. It is hard to find autumn gingham colors. Contemplating that Tuckernut dress. I need to look at shipping and return policies.

  15. I really like Tuckernuck! And wear their pieces over and over again. I personally have had good luck with the brand.

  16. Hi Deborah, if you follow the Tuckernuck rules when you open the package then returns are very easy. I have returned two garments in the past two years and it was easy with quick refunds. I love the garments I kept. I just ordered two dresses for spring events.

  17. Gingham looks so cool even on the warmest or humid days! For that reason its a go to for summer wear around here ! I really like the short sleeve round neck top you’ve shown here! I think it could look really cute with white cropped pants or even jeans!
    Thank you Pam!

  18. I love gingham, & it certainly says spring to me. It is great to see in accessories. The Dooney Bourke is so cute.

  19. Nice one,I like gingham for blouses. I have, pink, navy and black with white, of course. I also like wearing a white cardigan when the gingham blouse needs something for warmth on a cooler day
