Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: Handbag Styles for Transition to Spring

Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week.  We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence

I love handbags!  I have to be careful or I will buy too many.  They are such a great way to pop an outfit and a great accessory to transition into spring which begins about now. Though you may still be in cooler weather, a colorful handbag with a neutral look is a softer way to say…I am ready for spring!

I do not own many colors other than neutral bags.  But I do have a red, a navy, a green, the multi-colored snake clutch from the first picture, and an orange.  I also love metallic bags. The bags in the pictures I have owned for years.   There is a Marc Jacobs tote below in military green which is tormenting me at night!!

Do not worry about matching your shoes to the bag…mismatched pattern is acceptable as long as the colors are in the same family!

Below, I have selected some bags I would consider for warmer weather styles.  The blouse I am wearing from Chicos is pictured below in a navy.  The color I am wearing is called Grape Leaf.  The Eileen Fisher pants below are the same ones I am wearing here…they just show below in black.  Eileen Fisher has a new creamy white called Bone…and I love it.  I highly recommend it as an addition to your closet this year.  I have not purchased it yet, but plan to.  The jacket above is new to my wardrobe from Chicos; however, I bought it on clearance and I think it is sold out.

I tend to like tote size bags, but petite Jennifer likes a smaller bag.  Let’s go see what she has to say on the subject today at A WELL STYLED LIFE.

Do you change handbags often to match outfits or stick mainly to one bag?  Changing it out occasionally can really be fun!

  1. Some beautiful handbags shown here! I also have to rein in my strong urge to over buy tote bags! You are right about proportion. I think it is important to not go huge if you are petite. I stand in front of the mirror with a tote I'm considering to make sure the proportion is correct before buying. I really like your shirt in the photos today! I was hoping to get a look at that! I love that shade against the white!

  2. Hi Karen, The shirt in the pictures above is the same shirt. The color is called Grape Leaf. I could not get the image to save in this color…but Chicos offers this shirt in many colors. Great style and fit…I might order it in another color. But just go to the navy one above and click on the link!!

  3. I've become a convert to tote bags this year. So handy and a great way to stay organized throughout the day. I love that perforated one you're sharing. Perfect for spring!!!

  4. I love the photo of you with the red handbag. And it makes me wonder: does it feel totally natural hanging on your arm? Because it looks that way. And because I fear for me it would feel awkward so that it would look awkward. Yet I need something like that and more importantly I am drawn to it.

  5. I have carried large tote bags for so long that they do feel totally natural. It is a small bag that is NOT natural for me. I am learning to like a clutch, but it is taking awhile for me. As long as I am in the working world, I like to have a tote. You might get one and see if you could get used to it…you are so tiny, I understand the doubt.

  6. Hi Renee, I completely understand…I was in Marshall's the other day and they had some wonderful new choices. You might start there to get more bang for your budget! Thanks for stopping by.
