It’s World Stroke Day, So Pay Attention

A Sponsored Post

Today is World Stroke Day and it is a time to reflect on self-care for all of us.  Please let me share with you a story.  I taught high school journalism for 16 years and early in my teaching career, I received a wake-up call that strokes can happen to anyone.  One day one of my students walked into my room in tears, clearly shaken to her core.  Her mother, a women in her late forties, had come to campus to join her daughter for lunch.  But, while they were talking, the mother’s speech began to slur, and her mouth to move downwards, she had a mild stroke right there and the young daughter was scared to death.Fortunately, today her mom is an active, healthy grandmother.  But, those moments on our school campus clearly affected many of us and reminded us to pay attention to our health.  This is why a day like today is a good one to think about how we can avoid a stroke. Omron Healthcare, a global leader in at-home heart health devices, wants to remind everyone of the importance of monitoring their blood pressure as one of the easiest and most important factors to prevent a stroke before it happens.

Think about this….

  • More than 75% of Americans who suffer a stroke also experience high blood pressure, according to the CDC
  • The American Stroke Association states that your chance of stroke nearly doubles every 10 years after the age of 55
  • Someone in the United States has a stroke every 40 seconds – that’s almost 800,000 strokes that occur each year

Those are sobering statistics.  At least they are for someone like me who tends to always be on the high side of blood pressure readings when I go in to the doctor.   I have heard so many stories of aging parents who suffered strokes and how debilitating it can be.  I do not wish to be one of those statistics.

Omron Healthcare recently announced their company mission is Going for Zero.  It is a mission to eliminate heart attacks and strokes.  They provide the necessary in home supplies to properly monitor our blood pressure daily.

We talked last week on this blog about the importance of moving more and taking care of our health.  There were some who confessed to still not taking the proper care to look after YOU.   Use today to think about how to avoid having a stroke and if you need products to monitor your blood pressure check into Omron Healthcare.

Keep Smiling!
