“Tradition” is just peer pressure from dead people. OMG LOL
I agree with the Harvard study about missing the social connections after retirement. I kept in touch with some of my former co-workers for a while, but their lives & mine were in different places, so I lost touch with most of them. After coming out of a period of caregiving, I am slowly trying to rebuild my social life. I enjoyed the article on things retirees should get rid of. I have gotten rid of a lot of those things, but it did take me some time to ditch my work clothes. I finally donated what didn’t fit my new life to Dress for Success. Now, I am slowly getting rid of my husband’s large VHS tape collection. I don’t think I will be indulging in the things making a comeback. I am going for a lighter peaceful home, & dark brown, multiple-colored cabinets & maximalism don’t fit that description. The Oscar fashions were interesting as always. A great selection of news this week!
Thanks Becky! I am glad you enjoyed the reads!
I am 68 years young. I suppose if my daughters and I did what the 98 year old woman and her family in the Fox News story did, I would be a great grandmother by now and my 94 year old mother would be a great great grandmother. I am very glad that neither I nor my offspring had babies at age 19. I was born when my college educated mother was 24 1/2. My eldest daughter was born when I was 25 1/2. Her eldest son was born when she was 31. My only grandsons are now 11 and 7. I guess that neither my mom nor I will have live to see 6 generations. It is unusual for someone to be so long lived. That I applaud. But, should we applaud teenage motherhood in the 21st century?
Interesting “Retirement Challenge No One Talks About.” So true we retirees value and need friendship connections old and new…reciprocal relationships, not one sided. No need to be like minded in all areas, however respect and common interests are a start.
Also thanks for article jolting me into walking more, which could mitigate various health concerns.
Love your effort in compiling relevant articles.
