New to retirement? Here’s an idea for fun!

Happy Monday, ladies!  Today I want to show you something in this post called New to retirement? Here’s an idea for fun!

I was asked to be a speaker for a luncheon last week hosted by The Newcomer’s Club of San Antonio.

I decided to share this with everyone, because I believe most communities…especially the larger cities…have newcomers organizations.

The president asked that I say a brief message and also MC a fashion show curated at my favorite local boutique...Elizabeth’s Boutique on Hwy. 1604.

So…what does this have to do with those of you who are retired?  Stick with me and I will show you….

NEW TO RETIREMENT? HERE’S AN IDEA FOR FUN: THE MEMBERS OF NEWCOMERS

It did not take long for me to learn that along with women who were new to San Antonio, there were also many who are new to retirement.

The Newcomers Club voted to include women new to retirement or, also, new to any different stage of their lives.

For most though, it seemed the majority were new to retirement.

This is such a fun way to meet new friends and enjoy a new stage of life.

They do everything…book discussions, cooking classes, camping and hiking, traveling, game nights….you name it, these ladies have something for just about every interest.

You can read a more complete list here: NEWCOMERS OF SAN ANTONIO.

And for this event, many of them ventured into the world of modeling for the first time…and they did an amazing job.

NEW TO RETIREMENT? HERE’S AN IDEA FOR FUN: WHAT THEY WORE

The stylists at Elizabeth’s understand San Antonio style is colorful, multicultural, artistic and dramatic…so they brought the looks.

I am going to show you two pictures of all the ladies in their outfits…it was difficult to get them all in a photo.

Look at those smiles!  Can you tell this is a fun group!

I wish you could have seen them walk the floor…if I wasn’t talking, I would have made a video.

Elizabeth’s put me in this fun blazer with ponte knit pants with grommets at the bottom.

I called it an elevated athliesure outfit.

My friend, Ana, and nail technician, selected this pink for my nails.

This is not a pink I normally wear on my nails, but I like it.  It went perfectly with the jacket and I have enjoyed it with my other outfits this past week.

For anyone in San Antonio this week, there will be a trunk show at Elizabeth’s W-Sat.  I know it will be fun and I plan to stop by one day.

On Wednesday, of course, I will be on Zoom with some of you….there is still time to sign up.

Remember, that on Wednesday I am joining in with Brian for a free Zoom Workshop about a Spring Skincare Refresh…I always learn so much from Brian.

I wrote about this in the Friday post…and you can  CLICK HERE TO REGISTER...it is completely free with no purchase necessary.

My main message to these lovely ladies was to remember that your choice of clothing….even in retirement…speaks to others about you and who you are.

Your style sends a message without you even speaking a word.

What is it you want to say?

Then I told them about dressing with adjectives.

NEW TO RETIREMENT? HERE’S AN IDEA FOR FUN

If you are new to retirement in San Antonio and need to connect or have more fun, contact the Newcomers Club.

You can probably tell we are very close to celebrating Fiesta!

And if you are in another city, check out the Newcomers Club and see if they also bring in those new to retirement…what a great idea this is.

And if anyone local needs a speaker, contact me at over50feeling40@gmail.com.  I would love to here more about your event.

Those looking forward to today’s big event…the eclipse…I so hope you get to see it and enjoy!  I will see. you tomorrow, everyone.  Until then….

  1. Kudos! That was an honor. I am sure you made it a fun day for all. You certainly live in a colorful city. Love the nails.

  2. I didn’t think I would like this color…but I do! Such a fun group of ladies. Thanks Deborah.

  3. I think the nail color is in your pallette, as at least online it looks like salmon or another warm, melon pink. Pink is seldom my first choice, but I love coral. I also love your jacket and the whole concept of elevated athleisure. Looks like a good time was had by all!

  4. I love your outfit especially the blazer. It looks great on you.
    Looks like a fun event.

  5. It is really a bright true pink, Linda….not a salmon as it may appear on some monitors. But, I do like it…and might wear it again..though it is not in my best colors. Yes, a good time was had by all.

  6. Thank you, Beth. Mr. B even liked the blazer and that surprised me…but it was fun to wear it for the day.

  7. What a fun organization there in San Antonio! I hope some of those ladies will come join your blog community as well.

  8. The Newcomers Club is a great organization. When I first moved to Victoria BC, I meet some wonderful friends and I learned a lot about the city. Ten years later, we still meet for lunch once a week. If you move to a new place, I highly recommend joining a Newcomers Club.

  9. Thanks for sharing, Judy. I wish I had known about it when I first moved here…but that was over 40 years ago. These women are precious. I am glad to here someone else recommend it.

  10. Pamela,
Thanks for the wonderful post—we absolutely loved having you join us at our Newcomers monthly luncheon at Magnolia Halle! We welcome all those who are new to San Antonio of who have had a major life change within the past 3 years. I’m sure many of our members will become a part of your online community. Thanks again and I hope we get to see you again!

  11. I usually wouldn’t look twice at pants with grommets thinking they would be too niche. Those are great looking. Now I’ll consider pants with buttons, grommets or even a short zipper. So cute!

  12. I really like these pants! These were a nice detail. Thanks for being here, Jane!

  13. I really enjoyed your post today. The ladies dressed for the fashion show was great. Your outfit was perfect for the occasion. I agree, find an opportunity to meet with other women. We live in an active adult community and the friends we have met and the clubs we are enjoying have been special.
