What I wore to the tree farm

what I wore

Happy Monday! Today I want to show you what I wore to the tree farm this weekend.

It was a busy Christmas decorating weekend…including a visit to a nearby tree farm to cut down our own tree.

Since 2012, Mr. B and I have decorated with one artificial Balsam Hill tree and one real tree.

In 2012, I was selected as one of the 12 Bloggers of Balsam Hill, and was gifted a tree and ornaments for the posts for this special campaign.

Loved it…and we still love putting up that tree in a front room.

But, for the family room, we have always decorated a real tree which came from various places in San Antonio.

So, this year, this city girl desired to go out to a real Texas Tree Farm and cut one down.

It was such a fun experience and the tree is a precious “country” tree.

So, come along with me today to the tree farm!

WHAT I WORE TO THE TREE FARM: THE OUTFIT

what I wore

It was a stunning day in the country, but began rather cold.

What I wore to the tree farm was my new TALBOTS BUTTON PONCHO which I purchased before leaving the city.

I love this poncho the buttons on the shoulders and sides….it is a navy but also comes in a tan color called toasted coconut.

Today is Cyber Monday and EVERYTHING AT TALBOTS is 50% off...including all of the PONCHOS AND CAPES.

I have my eye on the SAFFRON CAPE.…so pretty.

I will show you the sweater underneath tomorrow.

Thankfully, I have lost weight again (that I gained during the surgery recovery), so I may need some new jeans…these are a little baggy!

These are  Chicos…and their Cyber Monday gives 40% off the highest priced item, 30% on the rest.

I still love the gold sneakers from San Antonio Shoes (SAS), but I do not believe they carry them right now.

And, my personal Santa Hat has been with me a very long time.

WHAT I WORE TO THE TREE FARM: THE CREW

what I wore

The tree farm crew included my daughter, her sons, and Mr. B along with me.

Whenever you greet kids with hot chocolate and homemade Apple Cider, they are in.

Yes, it was cold…but some kids will wear shorts no matter how cold it is.

what I wore

It was such a beautiful day and the drive included many trees of fall colors.

We walked around and looked at several, but once a decision was made we set to work.

what I wore

What I wore was perfect to watch Mr. B saw, and my 11-year-old grandson hold the tree.

The sawing was much easier than I thought it would be.

Then the boys headed off with the tree to have it shaken and bagged.

They were happy to be there since it was haircut day which happened later!

And the tree smells so good.

I will show you once it is completely decorated…it is very different than our usual trees.

But the experience was so much fun….and I love supporting this local family and their work.

They told us that it is a tough business because growing these trees in Texas is not easy.

You can also purchase the trees in pots to plant in the yard after Christmas.

what I wore

Thank you for joining me today for what I wore to the tree farm.  Does anyone else go cut down a tree?

I hope your Thanksgiving and weekend was wonderful…and thank you to everyone who sent their well wishes on our anniversary yesterday.

If you are shopping Cyber Monday, please consider using my SHOPPING LINKS for your purchases.

Thank you to everyone who supports the blog this way.

I hope to see you again tomorrow…until then….

STAY STRONG & KEEP SMILING!

  1. I’ve never been to a tree farm to cut our Christmas tree as I grew up in the country and our trees came from our own tree. Real trees produce such a lovely smell, and I’m sure your live tree will be beautiful. I was struck by the height of your grand boys as I think of them as being “ little boys”. The one who held the tree while Mr. B cut it is taller than I thought he was so I had to go back to the picture of them to verify he was a grandson. Looking forward to seeing the tree decorated.

  2. Yes, he is a grandson. He is actually the same one that is in the picture at the bottom of the post in my JOY graphic. I just love that picture of him when he was younger. Actually all three of them are really growing.
Thanks Celia…the farm is fun because it has lots of activitites.

  3. You look great Pam. I still want to lose 40 lbs. any hints? How long did it take Was it WW?

    Enjoy your posts!!

  4. Hi Darlene, I am using the WW app which really helps me. I am also not eating in the evenings. I need to add a consistent exercise program for many reasons.
I have been so busy, that I am not really thinking about it and that seems to have helped!

  5. What fun! Oh, yes, we visit a tree farm for our trees here in Oregon! There is no shortage of trees, tree farms, or lovely mini-shops set up in these families’ barns. In fact, my husband and I will head out to do just that this morning! BTW, let me add my congratulations on your anniversary with Mr. B. Wishing you much health and happiness in the years yet to come!

  6. Some of my favourite childhood memories are of going into the forest with my family to cut down our Christmas tree. Until about 10 years ago, hubby and I bought a real tree every year, but as they became more and more expensive and harder to get locally, we finally bought an artificial one. As fake trees go, it’s quite realistic looking, but I still miss the scent of a real tree. I try to replicate it with candles, but it’s not the same. There’s nowhere here on the prairie where you can cut a real tree for Christmas and at temperatures between -20º and -30ºC (-4º to -22ºF) I don’t think it would be much fun.

  7. Thanks for sharing, Elaine. I do not know how long we will have a real tree, but for now, we both love it.

  8. You look perfect for heading out to the tree farm. I love all of my Chicos jeans! You introduced me to them. I recently bought a pair of dark wash wide leg jeans from them. They are so soft and comfortable that I don’t wear anything else but their jeans. Our tree is artificial and table size. We had it in Brent’s medical office and just kept it. We have a rustic wreath that matches it and we hang it over the little tree on our media cabinet. I added fairy lights to both and they are really perfect for our smaller house. I can’t wait to see your trees all decorated! Your grandsons are getting tall. Mine are all adults with children of their own. They all live in different states so I enjoy many texted pictures and videos of the great grand children and their dogs of course.

  9. I am getting those texts now from my sons in the town we left. They matter so much. Thanks Sydney!

  10. What fun you had with Mr. B and your grandsons. When I lived in Michigan we sometimes cut a fresh tree. I love the scent but now have to settle for artificial and a smaller one than I would like but its one I can manage on my own and don’t need to string the lights. I will bring some fresh greens in the house nearer to Christmas. Congrats on the loose jeans. Looking forward to seeing your new house decorated for Christmas.

  11. The lights on this fresh cut tree were a challenge! I would not want to try them on my own. For now, it’s fun to have something a little different. Thanks for sharing Kathie!

  12. First off, A HAPPY belated ANNIVERSARY to you and Mr. B. As to Christmas decorating am looking forward to see your freshly cut tree all dressed. For myself, its been years since I had a real one and though there was a time we did four (two outside and two inside) the extent of my trees is only now a six foot artificial (Coca-Cola themed ) one, we put up in the family room which my husband insists on since is a collector of said parafernalia and also that Santa needs some where to leave gifts … ☺. (If you recall, I sent you a photo of it last year.) Last but not least; am so happy for you Pamela that you are settling in so well to your new surroundings. -Brenda-
