Winter outfit idea

Happy Monday, friends!  Time for a winter outfit idea with pattern, texture, color, and shine.

I know many of you remember the advice from What Not to Wear for this winter outfit idea with pattern, texture, color and shine.

When I put this on for church yesterday, I thought…oh my goodness…this outfit has all four…pattern, texture, color and shine.

Stacy and Clinton always said that a successful outfit needs all four.

So, come along and join with me today to see why I believe I dressed with all four…and it just might motivate a winter outfit idea for you.

Let’s get started….

WINTER OUTFIT IDEA: PATTERN, TEXTURE, COLOR AND SHINE

This outfit combines three of my favorite colors to combine…dark brown, gold, and ivory.

Yes, mostly a neutral look, but it does have color.

The morning temps were in the forties, but a significant wind was blowing…which did a number on my hair!

Allow me to walk through this winter outfit idea and what is possible when you take the time to pair pieces that might not seem that they go together.

My winter outfit idea in:

  1. PATTERN:  My Chico’s quilted jacket with this pattern was purchased a few years back and I wear It often.  I do recommend the CHICO’S QUILTED BARN JACKETS (and love the English Cream)
  2. TEXTURE:   This is the CHICO’S TEXTURED GOLD MOCK-NECK TOP.

They still have a few of these tops on sale remaining.  I found it interesting enough to order when it went on sale and I really like it. The fit and the sleeves are beautiful.  For a woman who loves to wear gold,  it is a great top.

You can see that because I am working in the same color palette that the pattern of the jacket and the texture of the top just go together well.

  3. COLOR: I keep seeing that dark brown is a trend color right now which is great for me because I my wardrobe includes lots of dark brown.  I do like the CHICO’S TRAVELERS PANTS and own them in several colors.

This is my favorite Travelers pant.  It is the TRAVELERS NO TUMMY PANT, and while they do have them in 8 colors (including smokey taupe), they are out of the brown.

  4. SHINE:  Most of the time, my shine comes in accessories.  I wore a gold bangle bracelet that was a gift from Mr. B; an old necklace with brown beads, and a cream design with gold trim.  With this outfit, I tried on several necklaces and decided it called for a short one.

My shiny shoes are the SAS SIMPLIFY SUNSTONE LOAFER.

My last touch of shine would be my nails which I always consider nail color and accessory to an outfit.

I love this soft OPI color called Fall-ing For Milan for a nice winter neutral.

I like to put together winter outfits with pattern, texture, color, and shine in mind.  It does give visual interest to an outfit.

And I still think this outfit communications my five adjectives of polished, approachable, creative, current and joyful.

WINTER OUTFIT IDEA: PATTERN, TEXTURE, COLOR AND SHINE: LOCATION

To photograph my winter outfit idea, we stopped by Abilene Christian University campus.

This is one of the campus sculptures and we both found it to be beautiful.

Though winter, the sky is a stunning blue.

West Texas skies can be truly amazing.

  1. You look amazing in all neutrals ( but with color!) . Yes, our winter days are also like yours- deep blue sky, sunshine, but cold temperatures. We see no real snow on the ground in Rhode Island but we did experience snow flurries blowing about in the air a good part of Saturday ( no accumulation at my house). Its always fun to watch flurries blowing about but nothing left to shovel or plow!
You bring back such great tv watching memories with What Not To Wear mentions! Loved that show.

  2. Thanks for sharing your winter in Rhode Island, Paulette. Yes, the show is old but this formula is timeless!

  3. Today’s outfit was very interesting and well done. I loved it! I especially liked the necklace with it. Our winter skies are occasionally the epitome of sky blue, but usually they are gray and heavily overcast. It rains and sleets here a lot in northwest Ohio in the winter, due to the effect of the Great Lakes. My favorite sky is when it’s really cold, which around here bottoms out at zero or a few degrees below. If it gets that cold, the sky becomes like a pearl. It glows with a very soft, glazed nacre, like being inside a shell. It’s one of the blessings of a good cold snap (we call them Alberta clippers).

  4. Good morning Pam. I was so intrigued by the sculpture that I looked it up. Its called Jacob’s dream and its a remarkable piece of art. Your outfit for church is super. I also try to consider texture and color when putting an outfit together. I don’t usually wear anything with a pattern or print but really like the way you combined 2 subtle patterns in this outfit. I think you would like my outfit today. Its been very cold & windy and we’ve been iced in since Friday afternoon so I’ve been dressing in warm clothes. Today I’ve paired a Talbot’s tan cable cardigan with gold toggles (shine) that you also own with J Jill redwood cords so I think I’m managed to hit all 4 if cables count as pattern 🙂 I wear a nail polish very similar to Fall-ing for Milan and plan to keep wearing it all winter. Its a nice neutral that looks nice on short nails and goes with my autumn palette. Happy Monday.

  5. Your outfit does sound excellent, Kathie. Thank you for looking up the name of the sculpture…it is beautiful. We want to go back in the spring when the color and green return around it. I tried longer nails for a time, but am about to go back to shorter ones…it is too hard to type without typos. But these are my nails, not fake, so I will just get a shorter length with a boxy cut when I go for the next appointment.

  6. What a nice neutral outfit. I also really like the idea of including the nail color. I really like the color Falling for Milan.
    Some nice pictures.

  7. That’s a great look on you. Please do more of this type of presentation, with the outfit and accessories laid out in close-up view. It is how I set out my own looks when uncertain or building selections to travel and I find it so helpful.
    Happy Monday!

  8. Hello Pamela,
Good News- For the first time in three weeks, I finally received today’s blog in my email. Your new system is working.
Thank you for fixing the problem.

  9. YAY!!! I feel like throwing confetti in the air, Virginia! Thanks for everyone’s patience.

  10. Your put together outfit looks great!!! Beautiful blue skies! Yes it’s been cold and windy here in Tucson, AZ it was 28 at 6 am this morning.

  11. 28 here as well this morning…the wind is the biggest challenge to my hair right now. Stay warm, Linda!
