Personal Style Practice: What Does This Outfit Say?

personal style

Happy Friday, ladies! Let’s continue with our Personal Style Practice: What Does This Outfit Say?

I started this exercise for Personal Style Practice last week to help us all with creating our own personal style adjectives and thinking more about the messaging clothing speaks about the woman wearing it.

The first post was PERSONAL STYLE PRACTICE: WHAT DOES THIS OUTFIT SAY?  and the second one is here, also called PERSONAL STYLE PRACTICE: WHAT DOES THIS OUTFIT SAY?

Both posts resulted in some great conversations about personal style adjectives…in fact, another prominent blogger decided to “borrow” the idea for her own posts…so sad, but it happens.

The focus is on my belief that if we chose five adjectives we want to tell the world with our clothing every day…and if we are consistent to always dress and shop with those adjectives…then we will develop our own personal style.

I heard from several of you who asked me to continue with the Personal Style Practice because they found it to be very helpful…

So, let’s get started…..

PERSONAL STYLE PRACTICE: WHAT DOES THIS OUTFIT SAY?: THE FEATURE LOOK TODAY

personal style

The outfit I would like us to think about today for personal style adjectives is the Michael Kors black and gold pant look.

This is an older display so I do not have links to this one look, but will have something for you as we proceed.

I do remember that this place could be worn as we see it, but also off shoulder.

At this point, I tell you the personal style adjectives I believe apply to the wardrobe of the woman who wears this outfit…you can agree or disagree with me:

This outfit tells us that the wearer is:

CONFIDENT – it takes a confident woman to wear a blouse such as this one with a touch of gold metallic

BOLD – she is bold with her fashion and not afraid to stand out

CURRENT – she is fashion forward, stylish and likes her clothing on trend and fit.

FUN – she likes a touch of whimsy to her style and enjoys having fun with fashion

CLASSIC – black ankle pants and polka dots are timeless, classic styles

If she applies these five personal style adjectives to her entire wardrobe, then this becomes her personal style and what others around her will recognize as her style.

Most often, women who wear black, are in the winter color palette…however, gold is a warm color.

If you like this type of black dot print, then you may like the ANNE KLEIN LARGE DOT BATEAU NECK SHORT SLEEVE BLOUSE.

This is a camel dot rather than a gold one.

Macy’s has a petite version of this top.

It is the MACY’S ANNE KLEIN LARGE DOT BATEAU NECK TOP.

Now, Amazon does have this black & gold top at a very affordable price.

It is the MILUMIA WOMAN’S ELEGANT POLKA DOTS PRINT SHORT CAP SLEEVE BLOUSE ROUND NECK TEE TOP.

It is your turn, ladies…what five adjectives do you believe our feature mannequin speaks about the woman who wears the look?

PERSONAL STYLE:  YOUR COMPLEXION

personal style

Recently, one of the readers asked me if I still wear BY BRIAN…and YES, I DO.

Last week, several new people I met were surprised at my age and immediately asked what I was doing for my complexion.

BY BRIAN SKINCARE and MAKEUP is the answer for me and I use his products every day.

I do want to commend Brian on his excellent new packaging, but it the products inside the packages that are so amazing.

I feel like my personal style adjectives for my complexion are:

Natural

Healthy

Glowing

Smart

If I speak this adjectives with my face, then I am going to be one confident girl.

Now, keep an eye out for some specials Brian has planned.  Hopefully, all of us will save some money on the best sellars.

I cannot wait to read what you personal style adjectives are for today’s feature outfit in Personal Style Practice: What Does This Outfit Say?….

  1. Good morning Pamela, the blouse paired with the black pants states that the wearer is confident and subtly trendy, purposeful, and fun. The dress wearer would be bold and energetic.
I love the color combinations. Happy Easter

  2. I agree with Confident, Current, Bold and Fun but I would add Feminine rather than Classic. That big ruffle is the first thing I see when I look at the outfit. I have a quite a bit of classic in me and I don’t believe ruffles say Classic. Now the next two similar looks definitely say Classic. Camel & Black is a Classic combination but the big ruffle speaks Feminine much louder to me. This is fun. I can’t wait to see what everyone else sees.

  3. I’d like to add creative because with some interesting shoes this outfit would be appealing to those who consuder creative one of their adjectives. also, it would be easy for this to look too young but the creative eye would know how to avoid that.

  4. I did mine before I peeked at yours :). I got feminine, glamorous, fun, trend-loving, classic. While the latter two might feel contradictory, the beauty of the adjectives is that those contradictions make for a more interesting, unique outfit, and say, I think, more about a person. While the top has many trendy features (dots, off the shoulder, big sleeves), it’s in a classic color scheme, and the pants are very grounding. By the way, I did have confident once as one of my adjectives, but took it off my list, as I think it should be the unspoken adjective …we should wear it every day if we are speaking our own adjectives!

  5. Good thoughts, Therese. Since one of my adjectives is creative…I would also be drawn to it…though it is in the wrong color for me and doesn’t really go with the rest of my adjectives. But, I agree with your choice.

  6. Yes to your thoughts on the word confident! I was thinking that it takes a bold, confident woman to wear this look and that is why I included it…but you are so right about confidence is the overall goal. Also, you are right that the adjectives mold a story together of personal style to each woman…that is how I can be creative and polished in one outfit. Thanks Linda.

  7. Classy, put together, modern, fun. These are a few adjectives that this outfit speaks. it’s lovely.

  8. Happy Good Friday to those who celebrate this glorious weekend.
I think that I have to start next time by not looking at your adjectives. They always meld with mine! I will remove fun and substitute sophisticated just for variety. She is very aware of fashion and how it relates to the art world. The gold reminds me of Klimt. She is luxurious, but in a simpler way. The top says it all; it is the main character surrounded by a very good. cast.

  9. Happy Good Friday, Deborah…such a meaningful day…and begins a glorious weekend, just as you said. Thanks for our observations.

  10. I couldn’t agree more with what Linda said about confidence being the unspoken adjective! I was thinking about the woman who does take this off the shoulders, and see her at a cafè table in Italy slowly sipping her coffee as she looks at a city map planning out her day. Yes, she is confident (on this trip alone, to enjoy her own company), and she is adventurous, bold in a feminine way, and approachable – because she wears a beautiful smile.

  11. I saw FEMININE (ruffles), BOLD (black and gold colors scheme) CLASSIC (simple clean lines). Fun to play along!

  12. I should’ve avoided your adjectives because now that is what I see. I do agree that adding feminine because of the ruffle is what I see. She is bold, confident, stylish and fun to know. She is a tall winter brunette with dark eyes, a broad smile and is worldly sophisticated. She is at home in Paris or Milan but just as happy in Des Moines, IA. I lived there for 19 years, they can be very sophisticated in Des Moines! This is challenging as I need to put a person in the clothes in my mind to do this exercise.

  13. I love it when some of you describe a woman behind the clothes. Makes it fun.

  14. Hi Pam, I’m late to the party this evening. When I first saw the outfit, without reading anything, the word Flirty came to mind. But I mean that in a very positive way, so I guess I agree with confident. I love the color combo on the outfits. Have a good evening.
