Personal Style: Who Is This Woman?

personal style

Happy Friday, ladies! Let’s think about another exercise in Personal Style: Who Is The Woman?

As we have practiced here what personal style adjectives say about the women wearing the clothing, some of you have also described the women.

I love that so much, I am going to encourage you to focus on it today as we discuss who this woman is wearing today’s display and what her outfit says about her to others.

The goal is to hopefully see all of us look in the mirror and think about what we have on before leaving the house…this is one way we “fashion” our own unique personal style.

By thinking, what are the adjectives I am saying about me with this outfit?

If we are consistent to control our personal style adjectives with each outfit, then we do create a recognizable personal style.

So, let’s look at our display today from Talbots.

PERSONAL STYLE: WHO IS THIS WOMAN?: FEATURE OUTFIT

personal style

Remember to begin to think about what the personal style adjectives are for this woman…what does this outfit say about her, before you describe her.

The display garments are: (Note: I could not find the long version of this scarf, but found the square version of it.)

TIE FRONT TOP PAINTED STRIPE

UNDERWATER WORLD SQUARE SCARF

LINEN DRAWSTRING MIDI SKIRT

I looked at the display for a very long time.  I could see a woman who wants the world to know with her personal style that she is current, traditional, feminine, artsy, bold, and friendly.

She loves prints and color.

As she shops at Talbots, I believe the following are other garments she would wear, because for personal style reflected in her entire wardrobe, she would need to speak these same adjectives:

personal style

EMBROIDERED TOP – PARK STRIPE

personal style

WIDE LEG WASHED LINEN PANTS

personal style

RELAXED CHINO SHORTS – GORGEOUS BOTANICAL

personal style

MODERN CLASSIC SHIRT – LUCIOUS LEMONS

personal style

MODERN CLASSIC SHIRT – DANCING JACOBEAN

personal style

MODERN POPLIN SMOCKED DRESS – BRANCHING FLORAL

Now, ladies, it is your turn…do you agree with my personal style adjectives?

Do you agree that these other garments might be in her wardrobe?

And, finally, tell us who she Is and where she is going…I love it when you do that.

PERSONAL STYLE: WHO IS THIS WOMAN?: SHOES

personal style

Thank you to everyone who participated in yesterday’s conversation about shoes.

My personal style must include a change of shoes…but everyone had great suggestions and well wishes.

So, I went over to the KEDS SALE, and found these cute “rose gold” sneakers…and inside I thought PERFECT.

These are the KEDS CHAMPION LEATHER LUXE LACE UP…I ordered the blush.  Make sure to use the savings code: SAVE20.

These will go so well with my new Spring Palette Wardrobe.

Also a few of you suggested Fisherman Sandals.

Here is the EASY SPIRIT FISHERMAN SANDALS, currently on sale.

I do not think this style will work for me now, but if I get a chance to try the style on, I will.

You guys are the best and always so helpful for the others in this audience.  Thank you!

OK…I cannot wait to here what you say today about PERSONAL STYLE: WHO IS THE WOMAN?

Remember to be constructive and kind.  This woman may not be you, but it will help others to think about who she is and what her personal style choices say about her.

See you tomorrow as Memorial Day Weekend is on!

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. Modern, youthful, whimsical, stylish, confident, fun and approachable. She is going to a winery today . It has a lake, and she will be with friends and sit in the sunshine by the lake and enjoy a delightful afternoon. ⁰

  2. Well…someone was trying their hardest on this one. All I can say is I personally love the color. Sorry for the comment being cruel, maybe if the shirt was more fitted it would work.

  3. I see a current, modern, optimistic woman- an elementary school teacher perhaps. She may “abandon” the pretty neck scarf after 2:30 pm, but she begins her day filled with plans, dreams and hope for her cherished students!

  4. Theresa…this is NOT would you wear it. If you cannot participate in the exercise, please wait. This is discouraging to women who like the styles and enjoy what we are doing here to learn about personal style in a positive way.

  5. Didn’t peek at yours yet. This is -very- close to my personal style (though I would knot the scarf, vs tying it in a bow, which looks quite feminine to me). Feminine, outgoing, interesting, playful, classic. Oh, we shared some :). Yes, I could definitely see her in the other clothes you featured, particularly the button down blouse in that lovely, colorful and interesting print, the Dancing Jacobean. I think she might not wear as many prints as you have shown … maybe a colorful check or gingham would really go with her style. Putting women in situations where they wear the clothes reminds me of a favorite blog called the Vivienne Files, where the author creates wardrobes for “heroines” in various life situations. My heroine has a part time job in retirement. She doesn’t really have to dress up, and the younger people who also work in her public-facing area do not. But why look sloppy when you can look great? And going out to work for a bit gives her a chance to play with some accessories she wouldn’t be wearing at home. At the end of the day, her husband has promised to take her for appetizers at a new bistro with a great wine list.

  6. You made me smile at the end of her day, Linda! I am friends with Janice of Vivienne Files…we had a lovely dinner together in Chicago one year. Another statement I agree on…why look slopping when you can look great…nice work here.

  7. Outgoing, artistic, artsy, confident, and current are the adjectives for this lady. She is thin and will be able to wear a white skirt with the blousy top. She might like to consider a different configuration for her scarf to help pull together the stripes and floral combination. She is very good with color and probably will wear orange shoes.

  8. I see someone who is traditional and modest. She may also wear a hat to shade her face and protect her hair.
The light colored skirt makes me think she’s going someplace special.

I’m a fan of Keds. I order half a size up so I can replace the insole with one that’s more supportive.

  9. Pamela…I see the woman wearing the sunny outfit as confident, timeless, stylish and fun. The scarf is the fun part…whimsical without being overdone. The outfit colors could really work well I think on most. Vertical stripes are lengthening so the cropped top is balanced. Love it! And my fave is TALBOTS.

  10. Fun, whimsical, outgoing, classic and happy. My friend is off to the local elementary school to do her weekly volunteering with the Read to Me program; she’ll be sitting on a stool so the longer skirt is great. The children will all want to know how she tied the scarf and they will tell her they love the colors! She will wear the Jacobean shirt with white jeans and fun sneakers the next time!

  11. I like that you & Sandra see her as whimsical. She does seem fun loving!

  12. This gal loves crafting; she is artsy without leaning bohemian, she is outgoing, fun-loving, and yet quite proper – her mother brought her up in traditional fashions, and she still leans traditional or classic, but always punches things up with eye-catching colors and prints. After looking herself over in the mirror, she took off the scarf and instead wound it into a slim headband to help keep her hair from flying around too much since she is hopping into her cute convertible kiwi green v.w. beetle and heading out with her bestie to the tulip festival and then to try a new bakery/lunch spot run by a community of vegan farmers. She will drink herbal tea with her veggie sandwich, and feel happy for days as she remembers her friend’s joy on this day.

  13. I ALWAYS love your scenarios, Connie! And I do believe this helps others think about what clothing says about the woman wearing it. So much fun to read these stories.

  14. I see a music teacher who teaches classical piano. She is modest, traditional, classic, creative and friendly. She wears bright cheerful colors. She ties her scarf into a bow so it won’t get in her way when she demonstrates for her young students how a piece should be played. I think she favors dresses and skirts over slacks (no shorts for her) so she would be attracted to the blouses and dresses but would probably only choose one print item in a season. She chooses her clothing items carefully as she expects wear them for many years.

  15. She is a retired nurse and is so happy to wear lots of color instead of 30 years of grey scrubs. She is sophisticated, classic, current, fun and approachable. She is going to see her best friend for lunch at the new tea room in town. She may decide to tie her scarf of her straw bag. It is turning into a warm day. They are planning to go to art in the park tomorrow and she will wear white jeans and that lovely Blue tones Jacobean shirt as a topper over a pale blue tank top. She loves those rose gold and neutral Keds and will wear one of them for comfort with all of the walking they will do. Today she will wear her straw sun hat to protect her white hair and pale complexion. She is joyful after shopping at Talbots for all the on trend colorful clothes she brought home. Those printed shorts and a short white gauze top are perfect for working on her flower pots out on her patio next.

  16. I haven’t peeked or read what you or others have commented. I see this gal as a natural classic, but she is breaking out a bit since it is almost summer and she wants to dress outside her box. She is fun, confident, and feeling bold today. She has a straw hat and satchel , and she has removed the scarf and wrapped it around her hat. She is wearing white leather Keds. The sun is shining and she is with three college chums, poking around an outdoor flea market. There are two pieces of McCoy pottery vases in her straw bag; one is for her and the other for her daughter. Let cutting flower season begin!

  17. You made me smile, Sydney. This is such a fun way to look at fashion displays.

  18. I love this day more and more. The scenarios are positive and uplifting and I can see the women everyone describes in my mind. Great work ladies.

  19. First off, so sorry to learn about your recent fall Pamela and do wish you a speedy recovery. On that note; one of my favourite go-to travel shoes is the ‘fishermen/cage sandal’, but with a contour heel ‘n sole (all in one) as they have been able to handle most terrains as well as weather (plus go with many outfits). Also another option for you might be, is a flat shoe with a peep toe. Now as to the ‘mystery woman’ today; I feel as the clothing she has chosen is that of natural fabrics (cotton/linen/silk), without a doubt she is one who embraces nature and she may even lean towards a vegan diet. -Brenda-

  20. I agree with the adjectives you chose. My adjectives are current, tasteful, stylish and expressive. I chose stylish because of the way the scarf with tied. I believe she would have worn white sandals that had the strap behind the heel for support.
Yes, she would have chosen several of the Talbot’s items. She would have shopped in her closet to complete the outfits.
