What Style Adjectives Does This Outfit Say?
Happy, happy Friday! Welcome to our new exercise called What Style Adjectives Does This Outfit Say?
What Style Adjectives Does This Outfit Say? is a weekly practice for all of us to ponder deeper what our clothing says about us without speaking a word to people we meet each day.
When we select five style adjectives to fashion our entire wardrobe around, then we develop our own unique voice and personal style.
We are multi-faceted women with many layers and we are much more than one word…classic, preppy, bohemian, gamine….hopefully, you get my point.
So, if we select the adjectives we want people to know immediately about us from the way we dress, then our wardrobe speaks in our voice.
My Pamela-style adjectives are polished, creative, approachable, current and joyful.
Each time I get dressed, I asked the mirror if I am speaking those style adjectives…and if not…then I tweak until it does…and if so, then I smile and head out the door.
Remember, when you look over our fashion display today to decide what this woman is speaking with this outfit, to consider her entire wardrobe. This outfit would just be a representative of the whole.
Are you ready?
Let’s dive in…..
WHAT STYLE ADJECTIVES DOES THIS OUTFIT SAY?: MY CHOICES
I met this woman in Dillard’s.
I see this outfit on any age of woman…and really have seen similar styles on many older women.
She is telling the world that she is:
RELAXED: she likes a “beachy-vibe” that is more relaxed than classic style would be
ARTISTIC: She likes to mix different types of clothing to paint a portrait of her look that is never boring
CURRENT: She does like to look fashion-forward and current with her selections. She likes to wear the trends.
FUN: She is fun and likes to be approachable and whimsical with her style; wearing a cap shows her fun adventurous side.
JOYFUL: She smiles, laughs, and does not take herself too seriously
What would she reach for in her closet if she is going out for dinner? A colorful, flowy dress or palazzo pants with a colorful scarf or wrap.
I was not able to locate links for everything here, but found a couple of them…and I have no idea why the knit top is called a poncho!
ANNA & AVA MULTI TROPICAL PRINT KIMONO
Dillard’s is a bit slow to update their website, so the jeans may show up there soon.
Anna & Ava is a Dillard’s accessory line.
If you are new here and wondering what is happening here, then I encourage you to read HOW TO MAKE PERSONAL STYLE PERSONAL.
I have written a lot about personal style adjectives, but this post is the most recent.
Tag you are it, ladies. What style adjectives does this outfit say? I always look forward to your answers.
See you tomorrow!
KEEP SMILING!

Whether shopping new arrivals or clearance sales, please shop with the links on my SHOPPING PAGE…thank you, thank you to all who shop this way in order to support the blog.
Without peeking first … trendy, fun, creative, outgoing, breezy.
Ah … we are on the same wavelength. I was going to say “embellished,” but thought it too clothing or outfit specific. I wanted to get to more personality. I settled for creative, but I also see your artistic. Neither exactly convey what I’m thinking, but it was as close as I got.
You did great! Embellished would probably not work for an entire wardrobe or to describe a person wearing it, so I think you were right to avoid that one. Thanks for starting us off today, Linda!
Haven’t peeked.
Fun. Colorful. Casual. Creative. Youthful or maybe current.
Thanks for joining in, Deborah!
I meant to add that I see her in the stands or at a field watching her children play sports.
I can see that…love it when some of you place the woman in a setting.
I see Artistic, Creative, Modern, Fun and Friendly.
I love these exercises and imagine which of my friends might wear these styles. Or, would I wear this?
If anyone wants to share if they would wear it, please do…love this, Paulette!
My adjectives for this outfit would be fun, artistic, expressive, boho.
Imaginative, creative, fun, fearless, playful. I’d like to visit a museum with this girl, and then have mocha lattes.
Thanks Audrey!
Love this Marcia…and I also like the adjective, Imaginative. What a great adjective!
I see trendy, quirky, bohemian, casual and fun. Paulette, the only piece I might wear in the mesh shirt. I notices it on a manikin in the teen section of Dillard’s yesterday but decided it would need a tank under so passed it buy. The other items just don’t meet my adjectives. I see college girls dressed like this in Asheville though more often they have cut off the jeans a la Daisy Duke.
Thanks so much, Kathie…it is interesting that I see women over 50 dressed like this where I live. It is good to hear different perspectives.
I see Colorful, Bohemian, Sporty
Thanks Lisa.
I see her as fun-loving, active, confident, friendly, modern. She took basics (jeans, top, cap) and added the fun twist of a colorful, playful kimono. She might be any age, as you say, but likes to play trivia night games at the hippest food-truck pod with her bestie and their husbands. She opts for the same vegan hot dog as her friend, but dashes over to her favorite ethnic food cart for a generous dollop of chutney. They recognize her there and are always happy to accommodate her request. 😉
Yes! I do see her at a food truck park! Good descriptions, Connie!
I see her as boho, fun, sporty, current, edgy. I don’t know what a food truck park is but it sounds like fun and a place she would enjoy. The descriptions of the readers are great and fit my vision of this any age woman. Perhaps add adventurous as an adjective. I am too conservative to wear this outfit.
Thanks for sharing, Sydney!
May be that I’m alone in this…my first thought truly was goofy. The hat, pants and flowy topper look silly together.
Perhaps a cute light bomber jacket? Or just start over. Just being honest here.
Hi Elaine, allow me to remind you this is NOT would you wear it…it is an exercise to help with style adjectives. Let’s stay focused on that. Thanks so much.
I think the word that Elaine is looking for is eclectic. The baseball hat, with sparkles, the flowy topper with trouser tailored pants. The trouser tailored pants with sparkles. The high contrast top. The styles of the various parts contrast more than compliment.
