Nordstrom & European Shopping

Happy Monday!  I asked myself…why not combine Nordstrom & European Shopping in today’s post?

So, I did combine Nordstrom & European Shopping for you today!

Shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is minimal for me this year…yet purposeful.

And the European shopping includes the wonderful gifts my family brought to me from their vacation….necklace photo explained below.

I am into total relaxation right now…so let’s get cozy and relax as we enjoy Nordstrom & European shopping.

NORDSTROM & EUROPEAN SHOPPING – NORDSTROM

Nordstrom & European Shopping

My Nordstrom Anniversary Sale  shopping is very purposeful this year.

My own personal list for fall shopping included a plaid blazer to wear with denim and loafers.

I have ordered this one and will let you know what I think.

It is the AVEC LE FILLES PLAID DOUBLE BREASTED BLAZER, and I was drawn to this color combo which works for my spring palette colors.

All other Nordstrom purchases were for Mr. B.

He does not own many clothing, but the Peter Millar brand is his favorite.

When it goes on sale, we pay attention because it is pricey but worth it for him.

This is the PETER MILLAR PIMA COTTON & MODAL BLEND PIQUE QUARTER ZIP PULLOVER in the antique walnut color, which is sold out.  But the Autumn Berry is a great color also.

He owns this pullover in other colors…which I have often gifted him at Christmas.  He looks great in them.

I do not know if this will make it to Christmas…also, note that we wash these are home and they wash really well on cold delicate wash cycle.

Nordstrom & European Shopping

For a Petter Millar jacket, I think this is an awesome price.

He will use this often in our Texas climate for fall…a warmer, cooler climate than cold.

It is the PETER MILLAR NEW HARTFORD BOMBER JACKET in the brown color.

Nordstrom & European Shopping

I recently paid a much larger price to get him a new Peter Millar button down for work…that is mostly what he wears to work so he owns several.

When I saw this price in a new color for him, I jumped at it.

This is the PETER MILLAR PLAID PERFORMANCE BUTTON DOWN SHIRT in a color called blue haze.

Won’t we both be cute in our plaid?

Mr. B should be very happy with the Nordstrom shopping this year!

As anyone else made a find in this year’s sale that you are pleased with and want to share?

NORDSTROM & EUROPEAN SHOPPING – EUROPEAN SHOPPING

This is my lovely daughter fresh off her European Adventure which included European shopping.

She was surprised in Paris to see how many women of all ages were wearing sneakers.

“I do not remember seeing any other styles, and sneakers were styled with every type of outfit.”

She looks quite chic here in her clothing from PETITE STUDIO NYC, where she is loving their fashions.

I haven’t seen the clothing yet, but Jess did say that European shopping was fantastic and she picked up several outfits…and this is from a girl who really doesn’t enjoy shopping.

This is the most excited I have seen her after shopping, so I cannot wait to see what she bagged!

You asked to see what my grandchildren brought me…here goes for the blessings….

Nordstrom & European Shopping

Well, as an Irish band originally sang….The Boys are Back in Town.

And they blessed this Gigi so much with gifts that they specifically selected for me.

I am particularly moved by how well they know me and care…they did the shopping on their own.

Nordstrom & European Shopping

I had mentioned to you that Luke, the oldest, found a gift for me at Disneyland Paris and here it is…a fun chef’s hat.

The hat features Remy the Rat in Ratatouille on the front and commemorative stitching on the back.

Nordstrom & European Shopping

I will be wearing this in the kitchen when I am busy creating fun meals for them and dancing In the kitchen, of course.

Luke saw other people at the park wearing the hats and asked my daughter to help him find one for Gigi.  Love that!  And ended up getting one for himself….

And now I have an awsome sous chef!!   He helped with the cookies for the Cousin Crew camp!

His brother actually snuck into an antique store in Stockholm, Sweden….a young man after my own heart.

It is called Mari’s Lokala Produkter (Mari’s local products) and Mari is a wonderful women in her second half of life.

He found this antique necklace and wanted to get it for me…when he told her it was for his grandmother, she loved it and lowered the price!

She told him that it was made in northern Sweden by indigenous people over 50 years ago.

I will wear it often with a big smile.

Sweden is well known for its dala carvings.

In the summer, farmers from the Dala Region take animals to clearing in the forrest to graze.  To pass time they used large supplies of wood to carve animals and then paint them.

Dala horses have become a symbol of Sweden.

The boys know I have a collection of chickens around my kitchen, and they found this Dala chicken in a Stockholm antique store.  It was painted in the 1960s.

Our 7-year-old “king” wanted me to name the chicken, so I named it Sven.

My final gift is a memory of their Sound of Music tour…because most who know me know that I love the Sound of Music.

They found these for my kitchen in Mondsee, Austria near the church where Maria’s wedding was filmed.

Now, in my kitchen, I am surrounded by ways to remember that I am loved.

Nordstrom & European Shopping

Of course, the biggest gift was having them home safe and ready to dive into cousin camp even when they were tired.

That is it today for Nordstrom & European Shopping…ask any questions you may have and I hope you enjoyed seeing a little of both.

Hopefully, I will see you tomorrow…until then…

BE THANKFUL FOR THE GIFT OF EACH DAY & KEEP SMILING!

  1. Good morning. Lovely thoughtful gifts. You are proud of your boys. Such gentlemen. Your daughter looks more fab than any tourist in the Paris picture. What loafers does she have that are comfortable enough to walk in all day? I was looking at Peter Miller, the zip up. My husband runs, but he has a football player body. Is PM streamlined of generous? Do you follow directions and lay it flat to dry it? Thank you!

  2. Hi Deborah, I will have to ask her the loafer brand, and get back to you…she does walk in them often. The zip up is true to size, and he has several of these in different colors. He wears them to work in cooler seasons with a button down underneath. I wash them on the quick wash cycle and hang them to dry…they have never stretched out. He loves this brand for the fit and quality…and let me tell you, he is picky. I will get back to you on the loafers….I will say, that I can walk all day in my Easy Spirit loafers.

  3. Loved everything about this post! I appreciate the recs from Nordstrom’s sale, as my husband could use a refresh (he’s tall, though, so don’t know about the sleeve length). The gifts from your grandsons are sooo thoughtful and precious. What a happy family. <3

  4. Thanks Kim! Peter Millar is worth checking out for your husband. Excellent brand.

  5. Lovely gifts … lovely grands. We are happily babysitting my own two grand boys at the moment. The baby is smiling now. We usually go home tired (a two-year-old is -busy-), but we always have a wonderful time! It gives us pleasure and purpose to help out.

  6. I’ve purchased Peter Millar for my golf-playing Son. I’d say that it runs towards a relaxed athletic cut. You can’t play golf in something that doesn’t have some ease for swinging your club. I never know what to get my Son and I went to Nordstrom to buy him something, thinking he could return it easily if he didn’t like it.
He turned out to know about that brand of golf-wear and was very pleased with it — no exchanges required 🙂

Last Winter I read in the Wall Street Journal that the 3/4 zip pullover was a popular choice for a corporate casual look. You wouldn’t think the WSJ was a source of fashion/style information, but since we subscribe to it I read their guides and it’s a good source for professional men.

  7. I feel loved after last week! Yet, I know I am loved every day by my Heavenly Father.

  8. I agree, Linda. After moving away from four of them, I knew I needed to plan for ways to see them and last week filled the bill for now…it was special.

  9. Thanks for sharing, Rose. I know they have a golf line and it may be more generous than the other…they have several options. I also bought the zip top for my son to wear to work…it looks great with slacks or with jeans. I will tell Mr. B about the WSJ article….thanks.

  10. Love the bomber jacket, reminded me of my dad! He died in 2015 soo handsome in his. He was 83. Born in 1929 depression.
    So very frugal.
I’m curious about the dala horse.
I will look that up, got 2 horses of my own lovely mares Goldie and Ginger.
Love that necklace soo cool !

  11. My daughter brought back one of the Dala horses and it is beautiful. Thanks for sharing the memory of your dad!

  12. I’m glad to get these ideas on a men’s brand unfamiliar to me. My youngest dresses beautifully for work, with 1/4 zip sweaters a mainstay a good deal of the year, dress shirts and a couple of lightweight jackets like the P.M. choices.

I love that your family put such thought into the gifts for you. Folk painting, like on your Dala chicken, is something I am always drawn to, like the rosemaling of Nordic countries, or the Otomi painted, or embroidered works in Mexico. So lovely to bring home handicrafts of artisans!

If I were to go clothes shopping in the U.K., I’d be sure to make a beeline for Seasalt Cornwall, a shop with the most extraordinary and colorful sweaters and dresses. The designs I see online make me so happy.

  13. This post warmed my heart! What sweet and thoughtful children. You are blessed and so are they!

  14. What’s nice trip the family took. And the things they brought back are very special. I love the picture of you and your grandson in your hats!
I didn’t get a chance to comment yesterday but I want to say good for you! You did it and it looked like a lot of fun!

  15. I have one jacket from Seasalt Cornwall and love it…fun brand! Thanks Connie.

  16. How sweet that your grandsons picked out the gifts on their own. They do know their Gigi well. In the pictures that I have seen of your husband, he is always well dressed & looks very stylish. I’m sure he will appreciate his new clothes. Can’t wait to see your new plaid blazer. Maybe a plaid blazer is something to put on my fall wish list.

  17. The pictures of your gifts from your grandsons are wonderful! The pictures of the children and their mother are to be treasured. Your daughter is so lovely! Your Dala chicken will be a family treasure to hand down to their children. The clothes you chose for your husband are really nice. My husband preferred buttoned collar shirts also when he was still practicing medicine. He still has many of them and in perfect condition! I love the blue windowpane check shirt! Your plaid blazer is a great color for you. Can’t wait to see how it looks this fall.

  18. I am very excited to see the plaid blazer…it fits my style adjectives and the colors were perfect. I hope it looks good on me. I have been inspired by other women I have seen wearing them. Thanks Becky!

  19. I can’t wait to see it too…here is hoping it fits well. But I will report back. I think the blue windowpane is going to look great on Mr. B with his blue eyes and silver hair.

  20. What a blessing to know that your grandkids “get you,” as evidenced by their thoughtfully chosen gifts. I can only imagine how thankful you were to have them safely back stateside, and in time for Cousins’ Camp. A trip of that magnitude can really broaden anyone’s world view – how lucky they are to see those sites at such a young age! I agree with DeborahLM that Jess looks like the best-dressed lady in Paris! Thanks to Linda LM for the perfect words to explain to less active friends why I volunteer weekly and try to help my daughter’s family as much as I can: “It gives me pleasure and purpose to help out.” That is the best use I can think of for the last third of my life – I would rather wear out than rust out, as the old saying goes!

  21. I am a North Carolina girl and Peter Millar is a North Carolina company with headquarters in Durham which is also the home of Duke University. My daughter used to work at The College of Textiles at North Carolina State University. A lot of graduates from the The College of Textiles work for Peter Millar. My daughter always enjoyed talking with the Peter Millar reps when they would visit NC State. The founder of the company named it Peter Millar after seeing a bowling bag in a thrift store monogrammed with the name Peter Millar. He liked the way it sounded and gave the name to his company. The company has been bought out by Richemonte the Swiss Luxury company that also owns Cartier, MontBlanc, Van Cleef. Peter Millar is a favorite of my husband, brothers and nephews.

  22. Vickie, I love your comment! Thank you for a little history behind the brand!

  23. Such thoughtful gifts from your grands. Your daughter looks wonderful. I know you are proud of them all. They are so blessed to be able to travel. I hope Mr. B likes his new clothes.

  24. Hi…….Iam getting your blogs again and so appreciated your grandchildren trip to Europe.
The Dala carvings were wonderful to see since I am part Swedish. How wonderful they were thinking of you. Thanks for sharing !
