Holiday 2020 Choices for style…gifts…and attitude
Happy Sunday, everyone! Today I want to discuss looking over of our choices for this holiday time in 2020…choices about our style…gift selections…and our attitudes!
ALWAYS BEGIN WITH ATTITUDES
We just celebrated “Thankfulness” and just like JOY…it is a daily choice we make to be joyful and thankful.
Those two choices alone can determine what type of day we will face. I know I am saying this during a challenging time around the world.
But, it is a choice…and we can set the course to not allow circumstances to defeat us.
We have a lovely staircase in our home…not grand, but lovely. Growing up, our football player sons, wrestled often and one of the pillars on the staircase was cracked.
When Mr. B looks at the staircase, he sees a cracked pillar and laments at the fix it needs.
When I look at the staircase, I see something beautiful and I am so thankful to live in a home I love which is built with the style-aesthetic I love. I can only smile when I look at it.
Also, the memories of the wrestling boys…now wonderful men…make me nostalgic and thankful they were there.
We control the focus and choose the joy. There are always silver linings.
CHOOSING STYLE
This was my Thanksgiving style this year. I try to stick with seasonal colors, but this Chico’s Ombre Bateau-Neck Sweater recently called my name in magenta. (All Chico’s currently 40% off)
So, I decided why not go a little non-traditional. The funny thing is that my son’s MIL showed up in the same color!!
I liked the neckline and rounded hem of these sweaters so much, I also purchased the Chico’s Textured Animal Print Bateau-Neck Sweater in brown/pink.
For, a relaxed at home style, I paired it with a knit kimono topper I have owned for years by Eileen Fisher, and my black Foxcroft jeans.
I was going to wear my leopard shoes and in the busyness of cooking, I forgot. But, Eileen (MIL) wore a leopard belt with her sweater and lit looked amazing.
Maybe I will continue to be a little more non-traditional this holiday season…love so many colors this year!!

love the necklace with the outfit, i also like the rounded hem on sweaters and tops in general, im not sure why they favor me, i think my widest point is the hips so maybe thats the science of it. i get it on the house, mine is far from magazine quality, but im comfy, husbands happy, and cats are satisfied….then im gonna go sit down..lol
You looked lovely Pam- why am I not surprised? It appears you enjoyed being with family. Our state leaders convinced us to stay home , dine only with people we live with and not host family gatherings which was heartbreaking. y. We’ve had a bit of a surge in covid cases so we obliged what the Department if Health advised. When I see you looking so lovely and enjoying being with your loved ones I am a bit envious. I wore leggings and a new sweater but no jewelry or accessories as it was just my hubby and.I. We are typically 12 or more! Glad your state is loosening up! Our state which dud really great all spring and summer is not doing as well right now. Sadly.
Ms. Pamela,
I have lost 110 lbs, have about 8-23lbs left (depending on which height/weight chart used).
I have never shopped for “real grown up, modern” clothes. I need to go to a funeral later this week and I wondering what to wear.
(Also, I may still have a bit of hidden dressing room anxiety!)
I am grateful for any advice and for your columns.
Thank you,
Diane
Pam, you have a beautiful home and family and so much to be thankful for! Unfortunately, like Paulette, our state is not doing well with Covid – it seems to be everywhere. All of our family and friends stayed home, but it was a nice, quiet day. We just have to count our blessings and know that better times are on the way. I can’t wait for our stores to open up so that I can check out all the great sales (and get out of the house LOL). Stay well!
It’s soooooo! refreshing reading your positive & used beat musings, Pamela. Does a Soul good!
Untrad colours are definitely my go-to during Holidays. Christmas Day I’m styling a bright yellow ankle-grazing dress with princess seams & elbow-length sleeves. Christmas Eve it’s a winter white long sleeve, scallop hem sweater & lighter navy blue skorts. Apple did say *wink* “Think different.”
I love the ombré sweater. Did you find the fit TTS?
Yes…most often at Chico’s, I am a 3…and with larger pieces I am often a 2. But this sweater just fit in a 3. I hope that helps, Kate…thanks for stopping by!
“We control the focus and choose the joy. There are always silver linings.”
What a wonderful reminder for all of us, Pamela. And not just during tough times, either, but for every day. Heading into Christmas, we’re looking at increasingly stringent restrictions & mandatory masks pretty much everywhere but our own living rooms up here in BC. I’ve heard some grumbles but generally everyone is on board to knock this second wave of Covid down until such time as vaccines are available. As for those silver linings, my husband & I are rejoicing in the prospect of spending Christmas alone with each other & the cat this year. We’ve decided that we’ll dress for Christmas dinner. No tux & tails, but nice “going out” clothes (even though we’re not setting foot out of the house), with actual shoes & perfume/cologne & the real crystal & silverware & candles & maybe even some dancing. We’ve not been able to do that for most of the year & miss it. Time to reintroduce some elegance back into our days!
