Monthly Style Tip for Women over 50
Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40. We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day. After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning. But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week. We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence.
We know it is a week late…but Jennifer and I took the first Friday of the month off…so here we are today on the second Friday to bring you our best style tip for the month of July.
Mine is about shopping all the great July sales…clearance time for winter, spring and summer. There are amazing finds out there…however, proceed with caution!
I added this white sleeveless tunic to my wardrobe in a sale find from Macy’s and the sandals from Stein Mart…in both places I was provided a 20% off coupon. Here is my July sale shopping tips:
1. Make sure you are getting pieces which fit within your current wardrobe and can give you some mileage. That is why I love separates! I needed a sleeveless white top with a collar…I actually prefer more structured pieces on me for work.
2. Always try garments on and walk out to stand in front of the three way mirror. It is your best friend.
3. Ask yourself in the dressing room…what does the garment communicate about you. Does it send messages which put a confident smile on your face. A great price doesn’t mean a thing if you end up not wearing it or donating it in a few months. Take time in the dressing room and evaluate what it says.
4. Finally, I know the heat in some places would melt rocks, but consider looking over the off season clearance racks as well. I just purchased two beautiful fall/winter jackets…great fit…unique for my wardrobe…and very low priced. At one time, both were over $100 each…..I got them for 60%.
Let us know if you have scored a major find this month! I love to hear what others take home. Then go see what JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE has for a July style guide.
Great tips for shopping and finding the perfect items. I love the advice to look in a 3 way mirror—-I don't do that often enough and then regret the decision to buy once I get it home and see it from all angles. Great post! Thanks!
Good tips, Pam – and yes, the summer sales are fantastic. You and I have plenty of summer ahead : >

Great tips Pam. So often in the past I would buy something that was on sale, just because the price was so good, but hardly ever wore it. Now, I am much more discerning and only buy if I really like it and know I will wear it often.
I love your tips! It's so easy to get carried away during sales and buy things that really aren't right for us. Love this look on you!!
Like Yvonne, I've learned to be VERY discerning. Too many trips to Goodwill with things I never wore, just because the price was right!
Try garments on and stand in front of a three-way mirror… LOL! This week I posted a blog about trying on bathing suits. ONE mirror is bad enough! Brenda
I went looking for a pair of fall ankle boots and found them at half price. They're black with a 2" wedge heel. They're leather and water resistant. I stayed on track, even though there were lots of cute shoes on sale. I needed new boots, not shoes. Get this: because my whole family buys shoes in this store, we collect points on purchases. My boots cost $22, including tax! I'll get a lot of wear out of them.
While on vacation in Greenville, SC, I scored a black Michael Kors blazer with ruched sleeves at Dillard's! Price – $30 – $100 off! It will be a while before I will wear it, as I am in TX, too!
Great tips from you and Jennifer.
I put myself on a shop stop for July! And it is to bad because I saw the most beautiful dresses in sale online!???
Great tips for shopping. I have buying up every piece of JJill linen that they make. Enjoy your weekend.
This outfit looks fabulous. I will be stealing. 🙂
