Hit Your Style Sweet Spot Over 50: 2017 Fashion Trends Part 4
Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40. We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day. After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning. But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week. We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence
Fashion trends can often be a gamble for Women over 50! We get excited about something new and about looking current, but it is anyone’s bet if the trend will work for us! My final 2017 trend to discuss in the one month series is STRIPES…they are every where! And, I must approach with caution!
I love the look of stripes and get excited when I see them on others. However, I have learned from experience to make sure they are a flattering fit. Horizontal stripes can often be a curvy woman’s worst enemy, because they can make us look wider in the areas where we do not want it. So here are my tips:
1. I look for the best fit and the way the stripe is designed. Some designs can trick the eye and be very flattering in the way they place the direction of the stripes.
2. This shirt has two side panels of lace and it alleviates the boxy design in the front, so it fits better.
3. I prefer vertical stripes, and I often wear that pattern. This is the only horizontal I currently own.
REMEMBER: It is all about fit! Use the 3 Way Mirror. You cannot see my feet, but for some reason, I always wear a black ballet flat when I wear this blouse…very French!
Another way to participate in the trend is with stripes on your handbags and shoes…I like that one best! You might check out the options I found below.
Do you like stripes and wear them? Then you will love this trend…now, let’s go see what JENNIFER AT A WELL STYLED LIFE has discovered for her last 2017 trend in this series.
I really like what you are wearing in the photos. I have a similar striped shirt from Chico's, but it does not have the lace panels. I wear it a lot and think the width of the stripes keeps it flattering. You look great! I also like many of the stripe options you feature here. If I see navy and white or black and white stripes, I'm immediately drawn to items like that!
Thank you, Karen! You are right…the width of the stripe has much to do about the appearance of fit. Thanks for stopping by…
Love your outfit. Also that blue and white top in your list. Very nice.
PS) That royal blue and black top from Chico's remends me alot of a Bob Mackie print.
I'm always drawn to stripes. It's such a fresh, perennial pattern. That striped tote from Nordstrom is fabulous! I love that top on you. Just a peek of stripe and it's slimming worn under your jacket that way. Bravo Pam!!
Thank you!
Thanks for the information…I did not recognize that…but I have loved many of Bob Mackie's designs.
I like that purse as well…still thinking about it! Thanks Jennifer!
That's a fabulous striped top, Pam, love the lace accents. Thanks for linking up, xo

That's a great striped top, Pam! And it looks fabulous under the jacket.
I'm always drawn to stripes, but I've learned to make sure that they are truly flattering. It's better to find and buy one perfect striped top than to buy five that'll do… Not that I know anything about buying five, very similar striped tops…
The Nautical look of stripes are great for any season and can be very slimming. Pam, this is a very nice weekend outfit.
Love the stripes and the slot machine. I miss the ones with the big arm you have to pull. The new one's aren't the same. I prefer my stripes vertical. I'm too big on top.
