Fall Clothing Style Tips for casual fun + perfect pesto
Happy Sunday! Welcome to a post dedicated to fall clothing style tips with casual and fun in mind…and perfect pesto on the side!
It has been such a great weekend welcoming a new grandchild and enjoying a touch of autumn-like weather…though I would like to see the temps go lower.
For me this is a fun bit of styling which fits my more casual lifestyle right now. Leigh Ann actually played a major role in pulling this together….
- The jacket and jeans were purchased recently on clearance at Chico’s. This is a kimono-style jacket with big pockets on the front sides. I really like it and sized down to get the best fit. I can do any type of work in this jacket and it will hold up.
- The sweater underneath is a past purchase from Talbot’s.
- I actually bought the scarf in an airport boutique in Las Vegas a few years back.
- The Sperry sneakers were recently purchased at DSW for $19, and they are so comfy!
Leigh Ann was with me when I purchased the shoes, so when I put on this outfit for photos she commented that the gray boxes around my neck on the scarf would match perfectly with the shoes…and I agree, they do!
That is a perfect way to do pattern mixing…looking for matching shapes in the same color families. I like the casual fun this gives to this outfit.
The shoes are a type of sweater-like material and so cute for cooler weather. I like them with these Chico’s light gray jeans, and Sperry is a top brand. I can justify the clearance cost at $19! Thanks DSW!
The outfit will also look cute with my grey booties….when I want a more casual chic look.
PERFECTLY PLEASING PESTO
Here is another Leigh Ann recipe! She recently brought me a container of her homemade pesto, and the minute I tasted it, I texted her...Recipe Please?
It is delicious…I cannot wait to make bruschetta with it! Basil is so easy to grow…and then enjoy!
Fresh Basil Pesto
2 cups fresh basil leaves
2 large garlic cloves
½ cup walnuts (Can also use pine nuts) (I will probably use roasted walnuts…love the enriched flavor)
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
¾ cup grated parmesean or Romano cheese
2/3 cup olive oil
In food processor, combine basil. Garlic, salt and pepper and blend to a fine paste, scraping down the sides of the bowl as necessary.
Add nuts and cheese and process until smooth. With machine running pour in the olive oil in a smooth stream until smooth and creamy. If you want it thinner, then pour in ¼ cup warm water through the feed tube with the machine running.
Place in containers and cover with a film of olive oil about 1/8 inch thick.
Refrigerate up to three months or freeze. Stir oil into pesto before using.
Fall is such a great time to enjoy time in the kitchen. I need to pull some recipes to make for my son’s family with the new baby!!
Any other ideas for how you use pesto? Please share….and enjoy having more fun with your casual looks!!
KEEP SMILING, LADIES!!

Congratulations on becoming a grandma again. Such fun. If you need to take time away from the blog for a time, we will certainly understand. Those shoes are so interesting, I do love flat footwear. Also, isn’t it fun to pick up something from a trip to remember it instead of a souvenier that gets stuck in a drawer after a while.
Thank you for the pesto recipe I am going to try that sounds delicious Pam. Congratulations! Wonderful news about you little grand daughter. How lovely for you all 🙂
My congratulations and a virtual Grammy hug on becoming a grandmother once again., Pam. 😍
Much joy.
I love the casual but pulled together look you’re wearing. You look truly happy. There’s a certain glow ……
That scarf is something really unique. Love it! I actually went window shopping yesterday and paid a lot of attention to scarves in bright colors! Didn’t make a selection but I will!
I make my pesto exactly like Leigh Anne. It’s too hot here to grow a decent basil plant so I usually purchase one from Trader Joe’s and sit it on my window kitchen sill. Lasts about 2 months when I rip it apart for fresh pesto. I am enjoying buying casual (play) clothes; after working for so many years I had very few fun items in my wardrobe. At the American Cancer Thrift Shop yesterday I purchased a pair of expensive beige & white saddle golf shoes for $20!
Such a cute and fun outfit! You two are great collaborators.
I LOVE those shoes! What a great find! While you’re wishing for cooler weather, I’m wishing for warmer. We’ve taken a very sudden turn from beautiful fall days to hovering on the edge of winter. It’s below freezing this morning and there were snowflakes in the air yesterday. 🙁
Very fun and chic outfit. I love those shoes!!
I really like the mix of patterns with your scarf and shoes! It makes your outfit casual and fun!
I’ve never made pesto, but I have a huge basil plant that probably won’t survive the upcoming cold front. The perfect solution!
Ohmigosh, thank you ( and thank Leigh Anne, too) for her pesto recipe! I had a pot of basil on out front deck & when it started to get quite cool at night I moved it into our sun room, where I actually thought it would die fairly quickly. Well, it’s gone crazy & is growing like a weed. I have this huge basil *bush* & was thinking the other day I had to dig out a pesto recipe & use some of it up because while we’re using it in & on almost everything, it’s growing faster than we can eat it. I have no idea if I can winter it over — I’ve never tried before as basil can be such a finicky herb (my parsley & rosemary just sit out year round) — but I’m going to try. And in the meanwhile, pesto galore!
Hi Janet, I used by pesto last night to invent a pasta dish with lemon chicken breasts and broccoli and it was fantastic. This is such a great recipe!!
Great article…congrats on your new grand baby!!
With regards to shared pesto recipe…we make pesto in big batches every year, with similar recipe. However, as our basic recipe we “pack tight” 4 cups of basil. Just adjust the other ingredients for 4 cups of basil. If we are going to make it, we want plenty!!
We freeze it in batches, using small tart tins and freeze. If you do not have those, cupcake tins would work, too. Once frozen, transfer to freezer bags or containers. When you want to use, take out desired amount. They come in handy when you are wondering what to have for dinner. Defrost in small microwaveable dish, with 1T. of water, serve with your favorite pasta and a salad…OR…add to soups, stews or as addition to other recipes. Enjoy!! We make sure we have plenty in the freezer to last till next growing season!!
Great information, Suzanne…thank you so much. I am going to try your way…would love to have alot on hand.
