Jennifer and I ask that you look over our displays with your best fashion-stylist-discerning eye and tell us if the looks would or would not work for you.

I encourage you to comment in such a way as to be instructive for other women…to be personal to you…and to write in a way that will not offend others.

  1. Happy Saturday Pam! Of the looks above, I would wear the cream colored top. I actually have one just like it and it goes well with all my basics. Most of the items just don’t appeal to me. The cropped pants would not work in an Ohio winter, the floral top has a little too much going on for my taste, and the dress needs something else…maybe a belt (I don’t care for self belts) and as a single garment is rather dull looking to me. It looks sad. The cream colored jacket is pretty and again, would work well with basics. While I appreciate a more minimalist look in my home, I’m not quite there with fashion. A piece of jewelry or a scarf keeps me from feeling washed out! Balsam Hill trees are such superior quality, always beautiful, even though I’m not at all thinking of Christmas this early. The stores sure are!

  2. Thanks for starting us off today, Karen. I actually know families who are decorating their homes for Christmas this weekend! I think people need it this year!

  3. I’d definitely wear the one on the left, cream top with dark capri pants. They’re perfect for FL heat and humidity. I’d also wear the middle outfit with a different tee, and reserve the jacket/sweater for trips north or the very few “cold” days down here. Love the first look—I’m a minimalist and don’t like fussy details, too much jewelry, etc.

  4. I would wear the long sleeve cream detailed sweater with a black v neck tshirt and dark jeans. I don’t like the pants here – that is a bad length for my Chicago winter.
I love wrap dresses but not this one. Drab color and prison uninform sleeves. The cream ss sweater would be cute in plum or burgundy. I like the details. The black floral top is no — floral and stripe detail is too much.
    Happy Saturday!

  5. I prefer a minimalist look but none of these outfits appeal to me. Likely the colour pallet. I’m not a big fan of creams and browns as they are not usually flattering colours on me. We had snow earlier this week, so any pants that don’t go down to my ankles are impractical until the spring.

  6. These outfits aren’t me , but pretty . I do like the idea of the sweater, It would really dress up a T-shirt and jeans with nice shoes .

  7. The dress needs a better body in it to be attractive. It’s a great basic for a real body and not a mannequin………fabrics like that don’t flatter a non real body. I think it could also be worn as a duster over pants and turtleneck or crew neck sweater. At any rate, as is……….I would want to look at it and feel it—and maybe try it on…..

  8. Happy warmish November 7! Here in the northeast it’s a balmy 70s which it rarely is. We’ve got a few day stretch of delightful weather from the southwest here. Love it.
On the mannequins. I’d wear the ivory sweater top on left with a few layering pieces right now. It’s a useful color and style. The cropped pants appear to be a bit wide for me. I’d prefer a narrow cut –same with the grey pair at center. Wrong cut for me. Now I would wear the cardi sweater center but not the blouse it’s paired with. I just don’t care for it. I prefer tees or classicly tailored blouses. On the dress -right, it’s a classic but I don’t see myself in it. If I were taller and more voluptuous it would work, but not for me.

  9. I tend toward minimalism, but these looks are too plain for my liking. There are elements in each that I like though. I couldn’t wear the cropped pants at this time of year as I’m looking out the window at our first major snowfall. Winter is definitely here! I love the cream colour of the t-shirt on the left and the sweater in the centre, but the t-shirt needs accessorizing and the sweater is too short for me. I also like like the dark olive colour of the dress, but not the style. It looks frumpy on the mannequin, but it might simply be too big and it would definitely look better with a different belt.

  10. I could wear the style on the left would a bit of jewelry and/or a silk scarf draped over my neck. The cardigan in the middle is very pretty but I’m long waisted and usually these short styles hit me in the wrong place. As for the dress, the color is too drab although the style appeals to me. I wore a very similar dress to my daughter’s high school graduation some 20 plus years ago. It was a beautiful shade of green. Funny how we can remember certain pieces we wore to an occasion yet forget everything else about the day!

  11. At first glance, I thought I would wear them all but on closer inspection, I would only wear the ivory cardigan and the checked pants in center. I’m not flattered by high crew necklines and the sleeve on the dress sleeves would make my shoulders look large.

  12. The length of the pants unless worn with a high shaft boot are not really practical in the climate I live in as our Fall season is somewhat cool. As to the tops, do find the pattern and trim on the middle one somewhat interesting however I’m not a fan of crew necks. So a no to both. As to the sweater and dress also a no as just not my style or taste nor would the latter flatter my body type as don’t have the chest to carry the long lapel and reasonable arms to fill the rolled-cuffed elbow length sleeves. ( Regardless my arms are long they are also slender (as so is my wrist) so this cut/type of sleeve actually overwhelms them.) -Brenda-

  13. I would wear the two pants outfits if I were still working. There are several basics here, and while styled a little -too- plainly here, I have solid winter white and solid black scarves that might work with this to give them some oomph. If the center cardigan has chain along the edges, that’s really cool and I would like that. Since I’m on the shorter side at 5’5’’, the pants would be long enough to have the rest of the leg covered by my mid calf Chelsea boots. The tee shirt has an interesting “v” design at an interesting place 🙂 … would definitely, definitely have to try that on before deciding!

  14. I would wear the one on the far left, but without the cropped pants here in the northeast. I will say that, for me, it’s crying out for some eye catching accessories, maybe a scarf or statement necklace. That probably negates the minimalist aspect.

  15. I would stop to admire the display. I like the colors (well, neutrals), lighting and staging of the display itself. The clothing pieces aren’t practical for Wisconsin winters – cropped, short sleeves. The dress is too large and shapeless for my taste. I prefer more of a shift style dress.

  16. While there’s nothing wrong with any of these pieces, they seem kinda ‘blah’ to me (I can imagine accessories bringing them up a notch). If I had them, I would wear them (adding something to give it a focal point, or some interest), but the display doesn’t inspire me to try them on or to purchase. And (with the exception of the jacket on the center mannequin) they aren’t seasonally appropriate in my area.

  17. While I am not a total minimalist, I am a less is more kind of person. I would wear the tops & the sweater with longer slim legged pants, as short wide crops are not flattering to me. The sweater & print top are fine without any jewelry, as there is already a lot going on there. The top on the left would definitely need a little something to perk it up. The dress is just ok. Perhaps if I saw it on an actual person instead of just hanging limply on the mannequin, it might generate a little more interest.

  18. I enjoy your posts but I have to say I am missing your join us for a beautiful day on the blog. This always made me smile as I read it waiting for the page to open. Consider bringing it back?

  19. To my complete surprise, I really like the dress & it kind of makes me wish I still wore them. I like the mink colour & love the fabric — I think it would drape & move beautifully — but would swap the self-belt for a wide suede or soft leather one with an ornate clasp & pair it with statement earrings & strappy pumps. Neither cropped pant would make it to my closet: I live in Canadian mountains by the sea & just looking at those bare ankles in November makes me shiver! Both tees are a no as well — not my colour or necklines — but that sweater is something I could work with! I’d pair it with slim-fitting tobacco brown pants, a narrow brown leather belt & boots, a copper-coloured silk shirt, collar popped, a few buttons undone with a cream cami peeking out, statement earrings. I realize as I reread this that I obviously am not into “minimalism” to any degree except as it acts as a backdrop to dramatic accessories 🙂
