Helpful Black Friday Savings News …and more!
Happy Friday! Since it is a week away, I wanted to share with you some helpful Black Friday Savings News…and more!
WalletHub has conducted a survey of this year’s retailers and compiled a list of the best places to save on Black Friday.
Their financial writer, Adam McCann, writes: “To answer that question and help consumers maximize their Black Friday savings, WalletHub surveyed nearly 5,000 deals from 21 of the biggest U.S. retailers’ 2021 Black Friday ad scans. Below, we’ve listed the stores offering the largest advertised discounts in various product categories such as “Jewelry” and “Appliances.”
You can see the BEST AND WORST PLACES TO SAVE ON BLACK FRIDAY HERE.
I noted that some of our favorites are on the list as the best places for savings on Black Friday: Macy’s, JC Penney, Kohl’s, Nordstrom, Walmart, and Target.
Make sure you look over the entire list in case you are shopping.
SO, WHO WILL SHOP BLACK FRIDAY
Well, I will! I do have some specific items I am watching…BUT, it will be from home.
I cannot afford to spend a great amount of time in stores fighting crowds. Just too much to do.
But, I do have a list I will watch online Friday….and then on Cyber Monday as well.
If the deals are really as good as this report says, then I may make a couple of purchases that are for larger items.
THIS WEEKEND? THERE IS MORE
This weekend is about comfy-cozy at home preparing the home to host Thanksgiving for from 12-17.
Cooking officially begins on Wednesday, so from my desk to my kitchen is where I will live the next week.
Lately, from my kitchen, we have been sharing home cooked meals with a neighbor family who needs some additional assistance at this time.
So, I wanted to highlight my most recent recipe tweak.
Close to 40 years ago, the first meal I ever cooked for Mr. B was a casserole called Chicken Devine. He loved it.
So, I pulled out the old recipe and believed I could tweak it a bit to modernize the ingredients.
For example, the original recipe calls for curry. I used this Kashmir Garam Masala spice, a northern Indian curry blend.
The spice combines: cardamom, cinnamon, cumin, black pepper, celery see, anise, allspice, cloves, and sea salt. I was going for more of a seasonal taste.
Here is a recipe to make this spice at home: Homemade Kashmiri Garam Masala.
CHICKEN DEVINE: TWEAKED BY PAMELA
20 ounces of frozen chopped broccoli – (old recipe calls for 2 10 oz. boxes of frozen chopped broccoli)
4-5 cooked chicken breasts – I used the shredded roasted chicken sold at my market
2 cans cream of chicken soup – for our neighbor I used low sodium
1 cup mayonnaise – I use brands with Olive Oil
2 tsps of Kashmir Garam Masala – if you go with curry just use 1 1/2 tsps.
1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
Your favorite bread crumbs and shredded cheddar cheese
Cut the chicken into bite size pieces….I toss the meat with a teaspoon of garlic powder. Cook the broccoli and drain. Whisk together in a bowl the next four ingredients. Then layer in a baking dish: broccoli, chicken and soup mixture.
Sprinkle bread crumbs and cheddar cheese over the top.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until it is bubbly.
Our neighbors called to say they loved it and ate all the leftovers the next day. I served it to them with roasted veggies and oatmeal cookies.
When I am comfy-cozy at home this weekend, I will be scurrying about in these Rockport Women’s tru Tech Veda Moc Slippers….on sale, but with the code MERRY, you get another 40% off!
They are warm and cozy but with solid soles so you can run to the market in them or walk the dog!

That recipe sounds delicious, and I’ll definitely be making that to divide up and freeze. I do like curry dishes. I would imagine you could also use steamed, fresh broccoli in place of the frozen? I eat a lot of broccoli and always have it on hand! Such a wonderful way to help a neighbor out, by providing dinners. I really like the jacket you are wearing in the photo. Really a beautiful color! I am not a Black Friday shopper and stay far from stores on that day. I’ll be playing Christmas music and decorating at home. It seems that sales are running constantly now anyway, but I know this is a huge day for retail.
I will also be decorating and playing Christmas music! I can’t wait to get started. I might check in on a couple of sales online, but going to the stores won’t happen then! Happy Friday Karen!
the outfit you have on in your pics looks great, love the colors and style
Thank you, Janet! I love these colors!!
I’ve never shopped on Black Friday and less so likely this year…lol. As Karen mentions there are ongoing sales here too, so I never feel like I’m missing anything.
I may check my favorite small stores but later, when the crowds are taking their break. ☺️
Thanks for the delicious sounding recipe today! My husband refuses to eat cruciferous veggies, so I may divide this recipe into two smaller casseroles: one with the broccoli for me, and one subbed with little red potatoes for him. After a couple weeks on vacation, next week’s all-American foods have me very excited for a taste of home. A big YES to spending next weekend listening to Christmas music and decking the halls!!
I have just about competed my Christmas shopping, staying ahead of warnings about supply chain issues. Usually I have items on my watch list and wait for Black Friday, but not this year … I hope I don’t regret that. Many retailers have been offering an early Black Friday, and I have taken advantage of that. I did go out for a rare in person shopping trip (still in rehab following foot surgery, so my time was limited) and found the stores poorly stocked and kind of sad. The chicken divine recipe took me back …. It was served at my bridal shower over 40 years ago!
Have you tried pea crumbs instead of breadcrumbs? I have. Delicious!
I have not! But now I want to…where do you purchase yours? Is there a brand you like?
I actually lov d going when my kids were young. But now I like to shop early…unless great prices lure me in!!
I need to do this, Connie. It would work occasionally for us!
LOL..I told you it was old! That’s why I wanted to update it…it’s still good!
How kind of you to help our your neighbours in such a practical way!
