Would You Wear It – Standout pieces

Would You Wear It - Statement Pieces

Happy Saturday, everyone!  Welcome to Would You Wear It – Standout pieces.

Most Saturdays, I team up with Jennifer of a Well Styled Life and we show displays we have seen while out and about.

Today, this display of, what I would call, standout pieces captured my attention and made me wonder what you would think.

WOULD YOU WEAR THESE STANDOUT PIECES

Would You Wear It - Statement Pieces

We ask that you give a few minutes to our displays and look the clothing over with a careful eye to detail.

Then explain with constructive thought if you would or would not wear what you see.

You are always welcome to suggest different ways of styling a garment in order to make it work for you or tell us what type of standout pieces you would wear!

I think if you look closely at her pants, you can see they are actually corduroy.

I realize some of these may be out of a woman’s comfort zone, but think long and hard about if you would ever take that step into one of these looks.

  1. The dress reminds me of the brand Kenzo – not my style (too loud for me) but quite spectacular for those whose style it is. I think the blouse is gorgeous – but again probably not for me. My style is more classic than dramatic. (Hmmm . but maybe with a black skirt and black sheer stockings and black heels … no jacket … could work for a chique party …) Personally, I do not think the blouse goes at all well with the vest and pants on the mannequin. In my opinion, the styles, material, patterns and colours clash. Besides, if it were cold enough for that vest, it looks like my arms would freeze in that blouse.

    1. As a Deep Autumn (season) & Romantic (Kibbe Type), the left look is too cool toned for me & the right one too bulky. I do like the sleek refinement of those patent burgundy/ cinnamon(?) booties on the left though, & the blouse on the right would have been nice if it weren’t for the collar (too pointed & deep).

Such a shame, because Farm Rio looks like a fun brand that I would love to try – if only the colours & silhouettes worked for me!

  3. The blouse on its own is totally my colour/style. I wouldn’t wear it with the pants or the vest as shown on the mannequin – way too busy for my tastes. However, it would look great with black pants or my knife pleat black skirt. I would add the burgundy booties on the other mannequin. A pair of sparkly earrings and I would be good to go.

I’m on the fence about the other outfit. On the one hand, I like the fact that it is a statement piece – great colours and textures. On the other hand, I would be concerned that it would wear me, rather than the other way around.

  4. well, I kinda liked the print on the blouse, but, then I saw it was pleated….I do not have the patience to maintain pleated pieces. the colorful coat would be pretty on some women, but the horizontal pattern would be something I would shy away from, its only going to magnify the widest parts of me.
your green cowl neck is lovely on you!

  5. I do like what I see in general but would wear that long wrap sweater with black leggings it heavy opaque tights not the ivory. That just appeals to me and I’d wear it. The jacket and pant on right also appeal to me without the red printed blouse. I’d pair these with a denim shirt or solid color tee or sweater. So, these little tweaks on otherwise great pieces just works better for me, personally.

  6. Wow!! Those outfits are LOUD! I like subtle clothing so everything today is a no. The sweater dress is so bright and the sleeves too full. I don’t wear animal prints so the second out is a NO too. Both outfits would be cute on the right person — that person is not me. Happy Saturday!

  7. I’d wear the outfit on the right, as shown. The vest might make me too hot, in which case I’d remove it and add a wide belt. P.S. I did order myself a little something from Farm Rio after seeing you and Susan on Insta. Fingers crossed it works out!

  8. Like some others, I usually shy away from bold prints, but I think I could have some fun with the cardigan. I’d wear it over a column of solid color (probably black or cream) or I ‘d pair it with black or neutral pants or jeggings and a tee that picks up another color (& my most comfortable shoes). The other outfit is (in my opinion) a visual train wreck, and my eyes have nowhere to rest! Taking the pieces individually, however, I’d wear the pants or the blouse with other solid pieces & a few well-chosen accessories. The vest would be fun with jeans in a temperate climate but is going to be bulky & unmanageable under a coat if you live where winter takes up three months a year. For me, the vest is a “no.”

  9. The sweater dress just won’t work for me. Besides the fact that it is too loud and busy, being a heavy on my lower half, I would look gigantic and the buttons would never stay buttoned. I like the three pieces on the right if they were coordinated with different pieces. The vest would be super cute with jeans and a cream sweater. I agree with Susan M. that the blouse would work with black. Also the courds and a black turtle neck would be great. Just not together.

  10. I don’t mind bold colors, but at 5’5”, I have to be a little careful with large prints. I love that big cardigan, but I would have to try it on and see how it looked open and unbelted. I love the color of the turtleneck under it but prefer a crew or v neck, and like Paulette, my leggings would be dark. I also really like the jacket, but, though I think it’s a cool style element, the highly contrasting fleece patch pockets might thicken my midsection, which needs no help. The cords are great and I’d wear those in a heartbeat with a warm colored, solid top. I like Farm Rio, but to fit it into my style, it would have to be one piece from the collection, not the mishmash of prints the brand is known for.

  11. These clothes, to me, are jarring and I would not feel comfortable in any of it. I don’t purchase “memorable” clothing because I like to be able to mix and match my wardrobe pieces. I am one who enjoys and feels confident in classic pieces, so these pieces don’t work at all for me. Also, as an introvert, I don’t call attention to myself with my clothing. This may sound dull or uptight to some, but I believe my goal in getting dressed each day is to feel comfortable and confident being who I am. None of these clothes pictured speak to my Foundational Five.

  12. A definite ‘yes’ to both tops, in fact searched high ‘n low two years ago for a lightweight turtle neck in a very similar color and found one which was just like new (Talbot’s label) in a 2nd hand clothing store. As to the pleated blouse a definite yes which I would pair with my favourite slim cut dress pants, suede black kitten heels and wristlet handbag. Also love – love the squared toed boots on the right. As to an item in your link though I do not wear sweatshirts too often logged on to Nordstrom website and saw one I even liked more, however sadly not available to Canadians for shipping and not on Canada’s website. (Sad face.)

Footnote: From what I’ve been reading, pleats will be playing a starring role in 2022 .

    1. Update — Re the sweatshirt found it on the Farm Rio website and they will ship it to Canada – hooray! ☺ -Brenda-

  13. The dress is beautiful but not my style. The print is too large and bold for my frame and I tend to prefer solids (Firm yes to the outfit Leigh Ann is wearing!). If I wore it, I would put a scoop neck cami underneath rather than the turtleneck. The blouse is also lovely and I might wear with a black skirt or pants. I don’t own any pleated blouses so that would be an interesting change. The neckline looks a bit plunging for my lifestyle so if I wore it, it might also have a higher rise cami underneath. I would wear the vest with denim. Patterned or corduroy pants aren’t my style so firm no to those. I prefer animal print to be in smaller accessories (belt, purse, shoes, etc)

  14. The display would make me check it out because I love color, pattern & texture. I like the blouse on its own. The vest looks too heavy or chunky so would need to seehow I could move in it. If I wore vest with the pants, I would wear a red turtleneck. I love the corduroy pants! I also love the belted sweater coat! Although I like lime green I wouldn’t wear it with the sweater coat -enough color in play already. I would wear the pants with a black turtleneck & the sweater coat!!

  15. Both of these outfits have way too much going on for my simple classic style. There is too much color, too much pattern, etc. I personally know some ladies who would wear these & look fabulous while doing so, but I am not one of them. I also don’t care for shearling on anything. I find it gets dirty & matted rather quickly.

  16. Hey, it’s me! I have garments like these already! I’m 75, by the way. I love bright colours and statement pieces. I love ethnic patterns and strong textures. I avoid horizontal patterns because I think they make you look wider, and I like vertical details which make you look taller and slimmer. I don’t like cut-off trousers, above the ankles because they make one look shorter. Same goes for trousers gathered above the ankle which tend to ride up when one sits down, and they end up stretched around ones calves. Horrible. As for the blouse, I personally don’t like low necklines except in high summer…
