Today’s News for Women Over 50

today's news

Happy Wednesday, friends.  Welcome to the weekly feature called Today’s News for Women over 50!

I got this idea for today’s news from a traditional news site which shares headline news from different sources.

It occurred to me that it might be helpful to you to have lifestyle news in one place which is targeted to women over 50.

I give great care to the curation of these articles and try to find ones which speak to this fabulous audience in a helpful, educational, and inspirational manner.

There are times I will include news articles about younger women that I believe we can learn from.

It gives me so much pleasure to know how these posts are enjoyed by many.

So, let’s get a morning beverage….a cozy spot…and enjoy today’s news.

  1. Thanks for including so many plant based recipes! As someone who has been vegetarian for over 10 years, I appreciated it. The article on plant proteins had a rather clumsily stated few sentences about plants providing “incomplete” proteins. Plant proteins just need to be eaten, over time, with other foods such as grains, in a very typical fashion. Last night I had a wonderful dinner salad main dish with frozen, thawed shelled edamame as a topper. Unfortunately, I think the media sometimes makes things more complicated than need be (I call to mind articles on investing for that too). I hope I didn’t sound preachy … people need to make their own decisions. But these healthy meals also save a -lot- of money. Every once in a while, I check the meat aisle prices and am shocked.

  2. A lot of interesting articles, thank you! I am definitely going to try some of the recipes, especially the protein salads and the vegetarian soups.

  3. As a lifelong tea drinker, I am happy to see the benefits of drinking it. Although I must admit, I am a black tea drinker for the most part. I personally have had more trouble with hay fever or rhinitis since getting older. This is especially true in wet weather. We went from bitter cold to very wet, & my sinuses have been giving me fits. I’m so sorry to hear that 2023 will be the year of the slob. This is not a trend I will be participating in.

  4. I always find something of interest with the articles you currate Pam! Today, I was so happy to see the dining room making a comeback. Although we only use ours a few times a year, it is so worth having one. We can fit about 16 people around ours, with leaves of course. The memories we’ve made around that table….. priceless!!

  5. Thank you for including the slow cooker recipes. I will plan to try a few of these. The ribs look especially tempting. I am usually underwhelmed by a slow cooked pot roast.
Let’s hope it’s not the year of the slob. Such a poor way to present oneself. When I lived in Brazil, even very low income construction workers would bring a change of clothes to the job site so that they did not go home on public transportation looking a mess. Only those who had nothing else, the truly destitute, were in public in less than clean, neat clothing. And Brazil is a very informal country (since it is quite hot especially in the northeast where we lived).

  6. Thanks as always, Pam. Great selection. I am trying to emulate your tea drinking habits and to replace much of my black tea with green tea. It’s taking time, because I really like black teas. Like the rest of your community, I’m going to pass on the year of the slob.
